I don't make much money and was going to suggest that we don't exchange gifts, but he purchased mine months ago. I would like to cook him a really nice dinner and set up a romantic evening. Do I still need to get him a gift?

You shouldn't have to, especially if you're going to make a romantic evening for him. That's gift enough..
Gifts for Valentine's Day don't have to be expensive, either - I got my boyfriend some candy in a little red heart jar, because I know he's going to surprise me with flowers. I TOLD him not to get me anything, but a)he's got it somehow lodged in his brain that even if a girl doesn't want anything for Valentine's day, she still HAS to get flowers (which is really cute, you have to admit) and b) the poor boy gets screwed in February - our anniversary, Valentine's day and my birthday all fall in a 12 day span.
It's hard to open a gift and not have anything to reciprocate with, keep that in mind. It can be a really uncomfortable feeling.

I am looking for some innovative gift ideas for my mother's upcoming 72nd birthday. I have given her many gifts before anything from jewelry, to kitchen accessories, etc. I am looking for something authentic and original. Hopefully a gift she has never seen before which will bring true joy and emotion into her life. I am looking forward to hearing all of your creative gift ideas.

Warm Blanket- either home made or like a fleece one
Books- everyone enjoys reading.. eyesight isn't the best? No problem her favorite books on CD
Have a day out on the town with her- take her out to her favorite breakfast place (or lunch/dinner w.e) offer to help her around the house for a day/ like cleaning or doing some house work/ help her grocery shopping/ go play some bingo together etc.
