In my new house the entry room is a Large room that typically people use as a formal sitting area and a second dining area. I DON'T want to. I want ideas on what else I could do to the space. A play room? Some help please!

Answer
When walking into a home, I would hesitate to use the entry way, or the first visible room, as a playroom. Play rooms are seldom tidy because, well, kids will be kids and playing is their job. I, personally would not want to walk into my home and see or have guests walk into a play area. So, if you can set up the children's play things elsewhere, that would be ideal.

Some other ideas would be:

A Cocktail Lounge: Set up a good size fully stocked wet bar with glass shelving to display glass stemware, pitchers, wine and liquor. Collect vintage bar items for display and use them, too.
Have a couple areas of group seating in cushy chairs and love seats.
You could decorate it like an upscale hotel lounge or perhaps some tropical plantation decor with wicker or maybe an English Pub setting with leather seating.

A Hunting Room: Decorate with prints of hunting scenes with hound dogs. No hunters in the house? A taxidermy always has unclaimed or abandoned orders that are taking up space in the shop. Just ask what he may have that he needs to get rid of and you will instantly have some authentic "gaming" decor. In this room you can set up quaint library and seating. Framed prints of old fashioned fishing rods, guns, game and foul. Look at old English decorating for ideas.

A Home Theater: Get several love seats and set up a place to watch movies after installing a Home Theater System. Oh, don't forget the popcorn machine.

A Gaming Room: Have a table and chairs set up for board games and card games. Install built in shelving with doors to store games in. Have a wet bar for refreshments and snacks. Have a chess or a checkerboard table set up, ready to play. Have friends over for game night and play poker, Pictionary, Tabu or other fun games. Collect old game boards for wall art.

I would have a drop leaf table set up in any case. This way you can escape to have a quiet cup of coffee and a muffin or a hot bowl of soup and even set it up for a change of pace for dinner for two. While not having a bonafide dining area set up, it is there if you want a change.

You can still set up a living room of sorts but not your typical formal living room that nobody uses. I hope one of my ideas inspires you to decorate a style that suits your taste.

THis year we are having a range of foods - I m looking for a pasta salad recipe, a greek salad recipe thanks.?

Greek Salad
adapted from my own recipe, by mistake

1 English Cucumber, sliced
1 cup Kalamata olives
1 cup Greek Feta, crumbled

Dressing:
1/2 cup olive oil
3 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp salt
freshly ground pepper

1. Place lettuce in a large bowl.

2. Mix dressing ingredients in a bottle and give it a good shake.

3. Toss lettuce with about 1/2 the dressing.

4. Place remaining salad ingredients on top of lettuce, and drizzle with some more dressing.

and this is my adaptation of a kraft based recipe
Easy Creamy Pasta Salad

Total Time: 3 hr 30 min
Makes: 20 side dish servings, or 8 or so, main dish servings

* 1 (16 ounce) package fusilli pasta,Or substitute Tri-Color Rotini
* 1 cup frozen petite peas, thawed
* 1Cup Frozen Baby Carrots , thawed
*1 2ounce can sliced black olives, rinsed
* 1 medium Cucumber
* 1 cup Genoa salami, can also use Hard Salami sliced in Pizza-Like wedges
* 3/4 cup chopped red onion
* 3/4 cup diced celery
* 1 (.7 ounce) package dry Italian-style salad dressing mix
* 1 cup Kraft real Mayonaise mayonnaise
* 1 cup sour cream
* 2 tablespoons milk

Directions
1. In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook pasta until al dente, rinse under cold water and drain.
2. In a medium bowl combine mayonnaise, sour cream, milk and Italian dressing mix. Whisk together until smooth, set aside.
3. In a large salad bowl combine cooked and cooled pasta, peas, olives, salami, green onions, celery and parsley. Mix in dressing last, reserving 1/2 cup. Let sit over night in fridge. Stir before serving. Add extra dressing if pasta appears dry.

This is wonderful as a side dish or main course for hot summer evenings. Even my kids who don't care for "salad dinners" love this. Even better the next day.
Try it and you will love it!

You can really add any vegggies you like. I used broccoli alot in this
