Okay so, every year on febuary the second my brother and I make dinner for our gma and gpa. This year its going to be Italian. We always make a lovely three to four course dinner and set the table up with china and candles and such. And we pretend to be their waiters, does anyone know an Italian (three course) dinner I copuld make? Including the dessert?

How to even a dinner table top?

I have a round dinner table that is split in 2 halves that I can put an extension in the middle. One side is higher than the other on both ends of the joint. What is the best, most simple way to even them out and keep them that way but still be able to undo it so I can add the extension if needed?

Without actually seeing the table it's going to be a troubleshooting process we have to go through.
1. Turn the table upside down. Check to see if there are any blocks that have screws in them that fasten the top to the frame. Are they all tight and snug? Do they suck the tabletop right to the frame without any gaps? If there are gaps tighten the screws, glue and clamp the areas where the gaps are. That will help a lot.
2. Is the top wood warped? By how much? If it's only around a 1/16th of an inch you can put the extension leaf into the table and belt sand the entire top of the table. This will make everything flat. You start with a coarse paper of 100 grit and finish it off with something in the 250 grit range. Sand with the grain, wipe with a tacky cloth and stain the top and then seal it with the coating of your choice. Polyurethane is a popular choice.
3. If there is enough play in the tabletop and it is not warped, only uneven, you may be able to press or drive a small shim between the frame and the tabletop to even them out.
It's hard to guess at stuff like this without actually seeing the table. These were just three sets of suggestions to help get you started. Good luck.
