dinnerware sets amazon image

William He
For my sisters for Christmas i would like to paint plain white plates to create a unique dinnerware set for each of them. I love to paint and think the idea of transporting my art to there dinner table sounds so fun! however, from reading on numerous blogs- i understand that acrylic paint DOES NOT hold up after many washings on ceramics, and therefore you should use ceramic/porcelain/china paint... which is specifically designed for painting on these types of surfaces. ok... so, my question is: (because ceramic paint is so ridiculously expensive!! and i have a huge collection of acrylics at home..) if i paint on a plate with acrylic paint, let it dry, and then coat it in something like this Pebeo Porcelaine medium matt (http://www.amazon.com/Pebeo-Porcelaine-Medium-45-Milliliter-Bottle/dp/B005KOH342/ref=lh_ni_t) .... bake at 325 for 30 minutes-- do you think that will work? Has anyone tried this method? did sealing the acrylic paint in a ceramic finish make the art dishwasher, scrub brush, and my-three-year-old-neice's-craziness safe?? THANKS!

i guess i should have specified. i am refering to non-toxic acrylic paint which i use when finger painting with the little ones- who like to eat the paint ;]
Answer
No it won't work. You could go to "Paint the Town " or similar place and do one plate for each person.
Toxic or non-toxic- it will not work.

i cant find a solid plain black dinner set anywhere. any help?
Q. i just want a solid plain black dinner set. preferably within australia. but it doesnt worry me much.
Answer
Try Amazon.com. Type in "black dinnerware". Or try any place that sells "Fiestaware" or "Fiesta" style dinner sets. A couple of different companies make plain black sets. That's casual dining, though. If you're looking for fine china or more formal dinnerware, then you could check Mikasa's website, but I don't know who else might have one. Good luck with your search.
