My cousin is getting married in one year from now, him and his fiance don't have much money
so they set a 3k budget.
They want to invite 150 people and accommodate that many people on that budget this includes the reception as well.
They are a young couple in there 20s , they asked me what I think about it.
I don't know a hell of a lot about weddings as I'm only 24 and never been married , but I said if you have a small budget maybe they should go to the court house and get their marriage certificate, and than spend that money on the reception because I think 3k could make a nice reception.
and maybe later on they could throw a wedding later when they have more money.
What do you think, can you throw a nice wedding on a 3k budget?
The wedding will be in a suburb of Atlanta I think in a back yard or something to that effect , from what I understand the brides family will take care of all the food, but I'm still not sure about such a small budget for 150 people. I mean you have flowers, candles, music , and a photographer plus what ever else. I know a photographer/DJ alone will run about 1k and that is low end.
They do not belong to a church or any kind of organization so that might be out of the question.
I will be a brides maid in this wedding so I hope it turns out well :)
And the bride to be was given a wedding dress from a friend of hers .. she said she will have it altered a bit so she can fit into it better.
Answer
you can IF you do these things
1- cut the guest list in half, no joke, i'm serious
2- make it in the morning, catered breakfast is much cheaper
3- or make it real late at night like 8 pm and let everyone know there will only be cake and punch, this will force people to get dinner somewhere and then come to the party
4- NO real flowers ANYWHERE not on the bouquet, the flower girl the groom ALL flowers must be fake real flowers cost a fortune
5-no videographer
6-no photographer
7- no wedding favors
8-no place cards
9- no rented anything, this means tables, chairs, plants, vases, nothing rented, rentals are super expensive
10- no real dinnerware or plates
11- no live band or live musicians of any kind, all music must be recordings or on an ipod
12- no bar, or at least no open bar, but if you make it in the morning you can get away with no bar cuz who wants to drink at 10 am?
13- no registering for gifts, if you aren't gonna throw a fancy party it would be tacky to ask for anything, people will be offended
14- no bridesmaids or groomsmen gifts, get them something later, after the wedding
15- no professional invitations, get them at hobby lobby print them yourself and make do
16- look for restaurants with package deals, for a wedding with 75 guests they are easy to find
17- craigslist EVERYTHING you can
18- make anything you can
19- tell people who can make things, decorate, sing, sew, or decorate cakes that THIS will be their wedding gift to you if they do it for you
20- two words: in-state honeymoon, do NOT travel anywhere, save the trip for the 1 yr anniversary, road trips are romantic!
