How much do your kids help you clean?

NYCmommy

what chores do they do?

here is what my kids do:
10 year old boy- takes out trash every day, keeps room clean, helps watch over baby while i'm busy
8 year old girls-help w/ dinner, set table, keeps room clean
6 year old boy-helps mommy fold laundry (the best he can haha), feed fish, keep room clean
3 year old boy-just kinda is my little helper
6 month old girl-nothing

is this too much or too little?

Answer
My kids have to empty dishwasher (expect for the pots and pans, they don't go in a place that is safe for my kids to reach), they have to empty the liter boxes, pick up dog poop in the yard, clean the bird and hermit crabs cages, clean the bathroom, clean their bedroom, sweep/mop/vacuum, pick up their toys. They don't have to do these chores daily or even weekly, everyone in the family has a turn to do them. I don't have any harsh chemicals to clean with in my house so it's completely safe for them to clean whatever I'm cleaning, and I'm not about to be the only one that cleans the bathroom.

Thanksgiving dinner disaster?

a.gatenby

Ok this is my problem PLEASE HELP. I am having thanksgiving dinner at my house for the first time. My husband and I have been married for a little over a year. We are both in our young 20's. My family is coming (mother, father, sister) and his family is coming (sister, fiancé, two kids, and other brother) now they smoke and my family doesn't know. I don't know what to do. My mother and father are crazy I think I should not have invited them but I know they were pissed off when I didn't invited them for the 4th of July. PLEASE what do I do?

Answer
First of all relax!! It just an elaborate dinner. I had the same problem with smokers since my wife has severe asthma. I simply make a designated smoking area outside and above all don't use ashtrays. I take and empty coffee can and put in the smoking area and chastise anybody who throws butts on the ground, regardless of who they are. And clean up is a snap, just put the plastic lid on it and throw away. I have been doing this for the last couple of years and my friends and family who smoke actually set up the smoking area for me. At one party when we had a heavy rain, I simply brought the deck umbrella to the from and attached the can to the pole.

About your parents, ask them how would they feel if they were not invited and tell them in a calm voice that you have enough anxiety without the extra baggage/attitude. So relax, enjoy the day and the company and remember, if there are problems, attitudes and / or arguments, just smile and say out loud, "I never worry about the little things"!

Good luck and have fun!
