How can I paint on dishes?

Ok, this may seem silly but I am in search of the perfect dishes. I want the dishes to have beautiful oriental cherry blossoms on them but haven't found what I want anywhere. So I was thinking maybe I could just paint them myself. Is there a way to paint a design onto an existing dish (not sure if they will be plastic or glass yet)? And is there a way to keep it dishwasher or microwave safe?

Go to Michael's and find paint for glass. I know that I saw it there recently, but can't recall the brand or anything. You have to be careful that the paint you use is safe for this use. You don't need to poison yourself doing it. I also recall that it involved baking the dinner at a relatively low temp to make the paint last.

I was thinking about doing the same thing with a plain Corelle just to get a pretty set of dishes, too. There's nothing out there for some of us who don't want plain old, plain old plates.
