I am looking for a square white modern set. The cheapest I have found was at Walmart a set of four including mugs, dinner plate, appetizer plate, and salad bowls. I am looking for at least a set of six for the same price. Any help would be appreciated. I have also checked the following:
-Sears
-JCPenny
-Walmart
-KMart
-Bed Bath and Beyond
-Linens & Things
-Costco
-Macys
-Big Lots
-Pier One Imports
-IKEA
-Target
Is there anything else out there? Thanks!

what to make for special dinner?

AddieMom13
I'm having my grandmother over for dinner on Thursday night. Not for any reason, she's just lonely so I try to do stuff with her as often as I can. It's been a while since I've had her over to eat though...
Anyway..she's French-Canadian, and likes all Italian and French foods (she likes some Polish and German too), but I don't want to make anything too crazy. I don't want to make anything spicy, no Spanish or Asian foods. Also, nothing with a ton of cheese in it, like lasagna, or a souffle. My husband and daughter can't have milk.
Something that will be nice, fresh, and very yummy..but is also special, and not your usual chicken and rice casserole dinner.
Thanks!
Johnnyneon: You made me laugh so hard with the stuff about the tenderloin. I totally agree..I would actually cook it a little less. I like my beef nice and rare...also, I am well aware of the 'let it rest' rule, so leave my ice cream alone. Thanks for the laugh.

If you have some money, go get some beef tenderloin. It is soft and delicious and easy to chew, since that is something to consider when cooking for the older set.
Also, you want a menu that is elegant yet easy, so you can enjoy your time with your grandmother. These recipes I am sharing will be easy, can be prepped the night before, and will cater to her French tastes, and delight her with their simplicity and elegance. You can't screw 'em up either.
I would roast the filet tenderloin and serve it with freshly steamed broccoli, a spring mix salad with goat cheese and strawberries (she'll love that), a warmed brie wheel with apricot preserves, and red potatoes with butter and dill. Here are the recipes.
Take the filet tenderloin and trim off the membraney stuff and any excess fat, which should be minimal. Wrap in saran wrap and refrigerate the night before for so you don't have to do it tomorrow.
The night of the dinner, place the roast in a roasting pan over a combination of Onion, Carrots, and Celery, and a little salt and pepper. Let it sit out till it reaches room temp, while you are doing other things. Heat the oven to 450, and put it in there for 30 minutes, maybe 35, and remove from oven and allow to rest for ten. If you are going to cook it longer than that then go to applebees instead. Let it rest for ten minutes or I will hunt you down and steal all your ice cream.
For the salad, get fresh seasonal strawberries and quarter them, get a decent goat cheese, and toss a boxed (plastic clam shell ala big costco type store) spring mix salad in a special brand of dressing, it is called "Brianna's" and it is a vinaigrette. It has a picture of strawberries on the front. Toss the salad with a scant amount of that dressing, throw on some goat cheese, strawberries, and maybe some walnuts or pecans, and you will have a delightful salad.
The potatoes? Take them and remove only the ugly parts of the skin, and cut them to reduce them to the size of ping pong ball size. Boil them till they are fork tender and then drain, put them back in the pot they boiled in, still hot, with a stick of butter and about a teaspoon of dried dill sprinkled over them. These keep warm well in the oven for a while too. She may not want to leave.
For the brie, take a wheel of Brie, cut the top skin off, place on a plate with the apricot preserves on top, and the walnuts. Put it in the microwave for 25 seconds, check it. 25 seconds more, check again. 25 more, and the wheel should be starting to lose it's shape slightly. That is where you just stop, poke it a little with a fork to loosen it slightly, and serve with water crackers and or pears.
Also get some fresh broccoli. Steam it so it is still quite firm but green and delicious. This also works well in the microwave if she isnt looking. Butter, S & P and you're golden.
Needless to say, start with the brie as an app, with wine if you embibe. Pear slices and walnuts are nice with this too, an english cheddar if you feel ritzy. Place the roast in the oven, and the broccoli in the steamer (The taters should already be done), and serve the salad.
When salad is over, grab the taters, Broccoli, and slice the roast, it should be warm but alost entirely pink on the inside, and should taste incredible.
For dessert?
I would get something simple from the store, perhaps a lemon tart, or little chocolate cupcakes, or those frozen bon bons dipped in chocolate, some of the strawberries from the bunch might be nice too.
