My daughter broke a plate and I need to replace it. It is a Mikassa Itaglio dinner plate. Is there some place I can get an inexpensive replacement?

Answer
There are several versions of the Mikassa Intaglio. you can check replacements.com Etsy Ebay Google your pattern and remember shipping costs about the same for 1 or 3 order an extra in-case you break another.

You may find someone selling a partial set for a good price...grab it.

What are some creative, unique, ideas for a theme dinner?

Risa Ray

I need to plan a dinner for 35 university officials in March. It can be anything classy or fun or informal. The theme needs to be used in the menu, entertainment, and decor...

Answer
a Louisiana theme with the Bourbon St. beat...jazz music, Cajun cuisine, colorful Mardi Gras beads, masks-purple , gold, and green decor and fleu-de-lis.

An Italian theme (though not original) is always fun done up like a bistro...red and white tablecloths, cloth napkins, loaves of bread served on a wooden cutting board with knife, bottles of Chianti, candles, antipasto platters, cheeses and grapes.....music can be Italian seranades with a fun Tarantella added. Foods served in gondola boats>>

Nautical/Seaside theme>>seafoods, shrimp (and other non-seafood for choices)...nautical style itself is understated and traditional.

Color Scheme:

Navy and white are the go-to nautical colors. Add a sable brown in with the decor as a nod to the ropes used on sailboats, too. It provides a nice contrast with the navy and white, and helps create a more balanced, richer color scheme for the nautical dinner party.

Tablesetting:

Though any combination of the navy, white and sable color scheme would work well for the dinner table, here's what we suggest if you don't know where to begin:

* Tablecloth - A khaki to sable colored linen; bonus points for interesting textures (like true linen, or a soft burlap)
* Table runner - Create a table runner out of navy and white wide-stripe fabric. For a six foot table you will need approximately three yards of fabric in order for it to hang nicely over each end of the table. If you are in a time crunch, simply fold the fabric over once or twice (depending on the width) and lay over the table to create a long 15" - 20" wide runner for a bargain price.
* Plates - Standard white plates will look great on this place setting, although renting navy charger plates is a great way to take the look to the next level.
* Place cards - If calligraphied, use navy place card paper with white or bronze ink. If printed, add a small nautical rope knot frame around the individual's name before printing the place card out.

Make a welcome arch using 2 life preservers and an arched cardboard banner between them over a doorway. Candles on tables in bowls wrapped in fishnet.

Music: anything with the word "sail" in it....easy listening--"yacht club music" on web.
