We will be having an outdoor ceremony followed by an indoor reception. I was thinking because the bride&groom take pictures following the ceremony while the rest of the attendees are ushered inside we should have some sort of appetizer such as spinach dip in bread bowls. We are also having a cash bar so I want to each table to have a bottle of champagne or wine. How would you set the tables for this with the floral center piece, wine/champagne and bread bowls?

Answer
Get long tables, or double-decked tables for a buffet style. You can incorporate the "center pieces" by doing, say, two dishes in a row, then piece, then two, then piece, and so on.

A good secret for buffet-style is making sure that everything is easily accessible and that the food won't hold people up, so make sure that you have a spoon for the dip so that people can put it on their plates if they so choose. I wouldn't recommend giving them the option to just stand around and dip. This is unsanitary. Put small plates by everything so guests know to just put it on their own plates and not hover around the food.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm going to be doing this as well. We're only going to rent about ten tables for our 100 guests, as my mother's back yard has tons of extra seating. We're going to get some spare chairs, too. We think is appropriate to do this because we're not having a formal sit-down dinner. Just get some empty round tables as well and put some center pieces on those and that way people can sit or not.

What Dinner recipes do you have?

I make this soup often. It is easy and most kids like the tortellini. I would chop up the spinach and wilt it for the baby. If the baby doesn't eat whole foods very well, you can also mash up the tortellini and cut the chicken in tiny pieces. It has been about 100 years since I had a toddler running around. You can halve this recipe also.

Tortellini, Chicken & Spinach Soup
Yield: 4 Servings

1 Pkg. Barilla Three Cheese Tortellini (Dinner for 2 size)
6 Cups Low Salt Chicken Broth
1 ½ cups cooked chicken from a rotisserie chicken or poached chicken breast
2 Cups Baby spinach, washed and roughly chopped
Salt & Pepper to Taste
Grated Parmigiana or Asiago cheese

Prepare Tortellini according to package directions, set aside or refrigerate.
Shred or cut cooked chicken into strips, set aside or refrigerate

Heat Chicken broth to a boil, immediately reduce to a simmer.
Place ½ cup raw spinach in each of 4 bowls
Add tortellini, heat until broth returns to a simmer
Add cooked chicken; continue to simmer until hot, probably about 2 minutes
Add salt and pepper to taste
Ladle hot soup, tortellini and chicken into the bowls containing the spinach
Garnish each bowl with grated cheese
Serve with crisp bread or garlic bread

Refrigerate any leftovers and serve with pasta sauce for another meal (minus the broth).
