My grandmother is from the depression era so for her things need not be any more then what s absolutely esscential. My fiance and I have lived together for over a year now, but we have held off on buying anything decent that we actually wanted because we have been planning our wedding and knew we'd have a shower with the oppertunity to get what we want. I got very cheap boring dishes from a discount store same with flat ware. I have cheap pots and pans and almost no kitchen gadgets or accessories. Also I have little to no home decor aside from pictures. I registered at Pottery Barn and WIlliams-Sonoma. Obviously the Pottery Barn stuff is my dishes, flatware, glasses, home decor ect. And then Williams is kistchenish stuff. I feel like since we technically have enough to get by and I am having at least 1 shower then everything I register for should be an upgrade right? Like I have liveable dishes but I am registered for nicer ones, still or everyday but nice everyday (i didnt register for formal dinnerware) things like that though. How about you? And do you have anything rediculous on your registry that you secretly pray someone buys you even though you know some people think it is rediculous? I have really nice insanely heavy measuring cups and spoons from Williams-Sonoma that are like $30. I really want them and dont actually think anyone will by them, and my mom was disgusted that I registered or them LOL. Ill buy them myself if no one else does.

We registered at The Bay (HBC), even though our wedding isn't until 2010. Our families wanted us to register early so we can start collecting stuff.
The stuff we registered for is dishes mainly so far, and some kitchen gadgets, a raclette, toaster oven, and indoor grill. We haven't decided on stemware or flatware yet, or any linens.
Our stuff is quite expensive. Our dishes are Denby White Squares, a 5-piece place setting costs around $180. The salt and pepper shakers were $65, and somebody gave those to me as a birthday gift already.
Many people go shopping with a budget in mind and find something at that cost, regardless of whether or not it's a good deal. I'm sure someone might get you the measuring cups, and I don't know why your mom was disgusted, since most people live on their own before they get married, the gifts they get are often an upgrade to what they have already.
The point is that you register for what you like, and of course you aren't expecting any of it, it's just a suggestion to those who would like to buy you a gift.
