Answer
Moulin Rouge Dinner Show Feerie

More information

Choreographed by Bill Goodson, Feerie consists of : a troupe of 100 artists, including the 60 Doriss Girls that were recruited world-wide ; 1000 costumes of feathers, rhinestones and sequins, designed by Corrado Collabucci, and set up in the most famous Parisian workshops (for example, 500 pairs of custom-made shoes of the size 36 to 47, ...); sumptuous settings with shining colours and unique designs created by Gaetano Castelli and made by Italian artists; the best international and outstanding acts; and the expected return of the giant Aquarium.. all of that with music by Pierre Porte, using some 80 musicians and 60 members of the chorus.

Feerie: 4 main scenes created to fulfil international audiences' dreams!

The Moulin Rouge today and yesterday, the Moulin Rouge forever
The theatre lights switch off, the curtain is raised and the entire troupe appears on stage, under the admiring gaze of the audience who find themselves entering the Gardenof the Moulin Rouge to discover the magical atmosphere of the place. A touch of nostalgia!

Sandokan
What kind of adventures can happen to a pirate whose boat is anchored in Indonesia? Dreams? A perfect woman's love? Once in the land, one meets priestesses, or a Gorgon in her temple surrounded by snakes, women jewels, tigresses...

Will Sandokan have the opportunity to offer his treasures to the lady of his dreams or will we be witnesses to a sacrifice of love?

The Circus
The circus comes to town with its band of clowns, Siamese twins, pierrots, acrobats, jugglers, weird wild animals and six miniature horses! A colorful scene with beautiful music which ends with the great parade of the Doriss Girls and Doriss Dancers.

The Moulin Rouge from 1900 to ...
The Moulin Rouge pays a tribute to Parisian women throughout the years: on the 14th of July, for the Liberation of Paris.. with Java or Boogie music. Time passes and leaves space for new generations of women, more beautiful and free than ever!

At the highlight of this tribute, the Doriss Girls dance the world famous French Cancan!

What would be considered some great ideas for a 4th anniversary that don't involve money?

****

It's my 4th year being married to my goddess of a wife but unfortunately things aren't so financially great right now. What are some ideas or some things that I can do to try and at least make somethin' from nothin'?

Answer
So sweet! We're poor too, but my husband always manages to do sweet things- and it really is the thought that counts. Here are some things that he's done for me that I loved- hope it helps:

- recreate your first date or revisit places that hold special memory through your relationship (like the first place you kissed or where you proposed, etc.)

- watch your wedding video and look through your wedding album

- create your own getaway at home. once my husband "took me camping" he set up a tent in the living room full of blankets and pillows. he put glow-in-the-dark stars on our ceiling and made us foil dinners in the oven. then we roasted marshmallows over a candle. it was the best night.

- write down your love story in a notebook. you can even include illustrations with drawings or photographs. my husband typed it up, pasted pictures, and had it bound at Staples. he even included a dedicatory page to me. very sweet!

- get a notebook and make a running list of all of the reasons why you love her.

- cook her a romantic dinner. you can even make your own menu pretty easily on the computer. (put the prices in hugs and kissing with a note at the bottom "tipping is strongly encouraged)

- create a getaway to another country at home. my husband "took me to France" for our last anniversary. He rented some french movies from netflicks (well, French Kiss and Forget Paris- not really french but they take place there). He downloaded french cafe music from itunes. And he even made me french toast and french fries.

Hope this helps and happy anniversary!

I'm getting married and I'm looking for info on saving money on the wedding expenses, any suggestions ?

I'm getting married for the second time, but I never had a real wedding before , so I want the whole fairytale wedding to happen. But of course my fiancee and I are not rich so we need to cut corners without being cheap. I want it to still be elegant and fun, but not leave us in debt for the rest of our lives. I'd could use some advice on this, maybe some websites or ideas.

Answer
Shop around for everything, the gown, the flowers, all of it. Off season prices are out there now, so take advantage.
Flowers: choose less expensive ones. For instance, Less roses, more mums. Consider a informal spray, rather than a arangement. Fall colors are beautiful in photos, and less expensive. Keep the size of the bouquets down, the bigger, the more expensive. Shop at the neighborhood florists first, leave the big expensive places until last, you might never have to go there. The ones who do the most advertizing are generally the most expensive. Consider renting large potted plants to fill in the spaces around the alter at the church or venue. Cheaper than flowers, and it looks elegant. Florist usually has a choice of kinds.
Consider having the ceremony in a church, rather than at a hall. Cheaper, most churches charge only a modest clean-up fee, if anything at all, if you belong to that church.
Keep the size of the wedding party down, less people to buy flowers for and feed. Keep the guest list down too. Same result.
Do your homework. Check out different kinds of venues. Compare renting a hall, and hiring a caterer separately, as opposed to a venue that does both. Some clubs and organizations have beautiful halls, but sometimes, you have to belong there, or know someone who will be at the wedding, who is a member. And beware, sometimes the rules are very strict, especially about cleaning up and damages.
Check you local paper for the dress, in the want ads. Often I see the following type of ad: wedding dress, never worn, size 12. Will sell cheap. It couldn't hurt to call, or see it. Check out sales at local and chain stores, often there is a suitable dress, for less. Having a name brtand dress is nice, but it does not guarantee that you will look good in it, and most people do not know Vera Wang from JC Penney when they see it.
Caterers. Check them all out, see what they can do for you. There are some that do the delivery and set-up, then leave. An opportunity for you to add cheaper food from someplace else.
Others set it up and serve it. Forget the sit-down dinner, it is too expensive. Buffet is cheaper.Find out how the caterer charges, some charge per plate used, so warn guests not to take a second plate, but most charge per the dish, based on how many people you say you will invite.
A Dj is cheaper than a band, candles at the reception table are cheaper than flowers, be wise about gift bags for guests, , shop for bargains, or pick something less expensive. Do the burning of the CD, or the labels for the Hershey bars yourself, or with a friend you is good at computors.
Try ordering a smaller cake, and order sheet cakes to go with it, cheaper, and just as pretty. Skip the dessert buffet, the cake is dessert. Put the money into a really good main course.
Booze. Bartenders cost money. Check out a cash bar, a free open bar, consider picking some champagine or wine, and have some soft drinks, instead.. It depends on the guests, if they are the kind that expect an open bar, you are stuck.
Shop around for invitations, the plain formal ones can be beautiful, you can save big bucks by not choosing the ones with ribbons and weeds attatched. They can double the price.
What do guests notice and remember at the wedding? Your dress, does it fit, do you look beatiful in it. The food, is there plenty, and is it well prepared and delicious. And is the church and hall decorated pretty.
Oh, and the church. Most churches have or can recommend a church organist, ours did double duty at weddings and funerals, as well as playing for services. She was cheap, and very good.
And forget putting a camera at every place at the reception. People do not take good pictures, they waste it taking pictures of garbage cans and up ladies skirts. My friend did the camera thing at her daughter's wedding, and her very young guests put their buddy in a garbage can, and took pictures, of him in, and not in, the garbage. There's 7 or 8 bucks saved, per guest. Have the photographer take a few candid shots, he will do a better job.
Good luck!

trying 2 plan a budget wedding any suggestions,I'm the mother of the bride, and am going crazy!?

I found a wedding dress(Vera Wang) she wanted on ebay that is gorgeous,so she didnt mind that it was preused,I just would like 2 give her elegance at a decent price, any ideas would be very helpful!

Answer
I myself think simple is elegant. Where the money goes is mainly towards catering and flowers. We are from the south so big sit down dinners are not the norm. We just did fruit and veggies and croissant sandwiches. Most people just want the cake anyway. Also we did the very minimum with decorations. We chose a B&B that is an old victorian style house built in 1898. This way we didn't need any decorations on the inside. The ceremony was outside so it was already beautiful on it's own. This kept our decorating and flower budget way down. I thought it turned out to be very elegant and romantic setting. I think when people go overboard, you loose the meaning of the why you are there in the first place but that is just my opinion. If you would like to see pictures, e-mail me at regzad@yahoo.com
We also saved money by printed our own invitations. We bought 150 invitations for $60.00 at Target. Everyone thought they were professional and very expensive!

We are planning on going to dinner at chelis chili bar in Detroit and then to a tigers game......how much $ should I save?

Answer
I looked at the menu...no prices. I

Low-end
If you're going to split an appetizer, and dessert, and not order alcohol; and get inexpensive seats to the game; you're looking at $70 for dinner, tax and tip in. And another $70 for the game, once again, inexpensive seats, and I've added the cost of parking, and possibly two soft drinks, take $10 off if you aren't planning on driving. Total $140.

High-end.
If you're each having an appetizer, and dessert, along with entrees, and a drink each, dinner would be $120, tax and tip in. Decent seats to the game, along with parking should set you back about $130. So total $250.

If you were really trifty, you could probably share an appetizer, forgo dessert, and get bargain seats, avoid parking, all for about $90, but that's risky and it's no fun worrying about prices all night.

Have you ever been on a cruise on the QE2 (Queen Elizabeth 2 ocean liner)?

Persnicket

If so, how was it? Entertainment, food, pubs and so on? Thanks .

Answer
I adored that ship, and was very sorry to see the QE2 taken out of service and sold to become a hotel in Dubai! I sailed on one westbound Trans-Atlantic crossing, from New York to LA via the Panama Canal, and in the Mediterranean -- about 6 weeks total.

Evening entertainment was a cut above what is found on cruise ships, and included the usual show, ballroom dancing, a movie in the movie theatre, and the casino. Daytime entertainment included guest lecturers (always interesting), ballroom dancing lessons, a bridge tournament with a bridge master, first-run movies, classes and demonstrations, the casino, bingo, pub trivia, and the daily quiz. TV in the cabins had more channels than is usual, including those for old movie classics, first-run movies, international news, international weather, sports, and re-runs of lectures. The movies were in several languages. If anybody was bored it was his or her own fault.

The food was excellent, set up much the same as on other ships. (buffet, dining room, room service, etc.) However, passengers were assigned to a dining room based on the catagory of cabin occupied. Passengers in the largest and fanciest cabins had dinner in the Queen's Grill, which was small and had the fanciest service and food. Passengers in the "middle" cabins had dinner in one of two dining rooms a bit less fancy but still very nice. The rest of us had dinner in the main and largest dining room, which was extremely nice and with fabulous food but with caviar available less often. Some "extras" food-wise were that one could enjoy a very early morning breakfast on the deck by the pool, opening long before the usual breakfast in the dining room or buffet. Also, for lunch there was traditional pub grub in the pub after the morning trivia game.

The bars and the pub were excellent, and it was always possible to have a drink brought to you at the pool, at the casino, or anywhere else on board. However, nobody ever got pushy about drinks. When we went through the Panama Canal they set up several bars on each side of the ship out on deck, and kept coming around with ice water and tea, too.

The crew was primarily from the UK, and many had chosen working on board the ship as their lifelong careers, some staying exclusively with the QE2 and others occasionally working on other Cunard ships. They were friendly, efficient, and very nice folks. As an example, one day an elderly gentleman in the buffet line remarked to his wife that he "just wanted a piece of beef", and one of the workers said "no problem" and asked him to wait a moment while he disppeared. The worker came back with a strip steak, a ribeye, and a filet mignon, asked which he preferred and how he wanted it cooked. Another worker in the buffet noticed that I enjoyed tea, and made it a point to keep bringing tea so often that I could have sloshed my way across the ocean.

On my last trip on the QE2, I had the cabin that was quite literally the furthest forward on the ship, so there was lots of movement, which I rather enjoy. However, I went to bed when the ship was in the Bay of Biscay (almost always quite rough), and about 4 a.m. heard a godawful crash and jumped out of bed wondering what on earth the ship had hit. Well, the sea was so rough that it had dislodged the glass shower door and slammed it against the wall! I couldn't get it back in the track, so I padded the top with a towel where the glass was against the wall, and went back to bed. On my way to breakfast a few hours later I stopped by the Purser's Office to report it, and they not only fixed it immediately but sent me a formal thank you note for protecting the glass from breaking and an apology for the inconvenience.

It was a lovely ship!

Does Obama think Israel is one of the 57 states?

What right does Obama have to demand that they stop building homes in Jerusalem?

Is Obama scared of upsetting his Muslim brethren?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/barackobama/7521391/Obama-snubbed-Netanyahu-for-dinner-with-Michelle-and-the-girls-Israelis-claim.html

Answer
Democrats always think they have every right to tell everyone else what to do, while simultaneously vilifying republicans for doing it, even though there are about six hundred areas where democrats think you need to be told what to do, while there are about four areas where republicans do it. (I am excluding areas where both sides agree on rules and controls, like running red lights and setting the puppy on fire.)

As far as Israel goes, democrats have been very pro-Palestinian for about thirty years now. You'd scratch your head and wonder "why so much anti-Semitism from the bunch who pays all the lip service to being anti-discrimination?" and then you slap your forehead and remember--To a democrat, Palestinians must win out over Israel, because (1) the Arabs of Palestine are more "Third World" than Israel, making them more sympathetic to leftists; (2) Israel is an ally of the U.S., making them The Devil to leftists; (3) republicans favor Israel over the rest of the Middle East, making the tiny country anathema to leftists; (4) Israel worked incredibly hard to develop that crappy piece of desert, putting the Arabs in Palestine to shame, making Israel something the leftists must see destroyed.

Earthy tones, will rose dinnerware throw it off?

M is havin

So for my new apartment, it's going to be all earthy tones, mainly chocolate brown and beige/cream color.

I really love this dinnerware set in particular, with pink roses. Will it throw my whole color theme off with the pink?

And also, would it be okay to exclude my kitchen from the earth tone color theme? Like say I match the kitchen to my dinnerware?

Answer
I think you could work light or muted pink accents into an earthy toned kitchen.

It will be a Christmas present for my mother. We have a big family and when we have our meals together at holidays our dishes our mix and matched. My mom would really love to have a large set that matches. But I want to get her a really good dish set, not some cheap thing that breaks and scratches the first time you wash it. We hand wash our dishes by the way. Can anyone recommend a good brand of dishes and were I can find them? Here are the traits I would like.

1. Microwave and Dishwasher safe
2. Oven safe
3. Not easily chipped or scratched, like when hand washing
4. I don't really want a design, I would prefer a solid color
5. Not White, Not Black
6. Coffee cups and saucers aren't needed, but would be accepted
7. Serving dishes would be a bonus, lids would be even better

I am open to any suggestions though, who knows you might just change my mind. Thanks!

Answer
It depends on how much you want ot spend. If money is no problem buy restaurant quality, it will meet all your needs. If your budget is limited buy three, 8 piece. sets at Wall*Mart, that way you have 4 extra settings to replace what breaks.

Old dishes microwaveable?

I have a set of dinnerware from the late 70s and am wondering if it is not safe to use in the microwave. I've been microwaving things on them all these years. Could this be bad...?
They do get hot. But then, none of them have broken. Maybe it's time to get rid of them anyway. Just hope I haven't been eating chemicals.

Answer
They would probably have broken by now if they were not MW friendly.

Answer
Stamps on china indicate where they were made. The manufacturer's name will be on most of them. Modern items would have to include the country of origin (by international trade laws or agreements). Some might also have the design or pattern name, or a code for it. Hand-painted items also often have a code mark for the painter, the rest is put on with a stamp.

Very old china often only had scratched marks, not stamps. Some cheaper bulk things also lack a proper stamp. Particularly all-white table china is often not stamped, but the required information is in the mould, so it comes out as "engraved" on the item. This might get filled in with the glaze, so look like there is almost nothing there.

Yours says Bavaria, Germany, so that is where it was made. Johann Haviland is the name of the factory. Johann was the son of Charles, an American who set up a pottery in France (where the clay was suitable for the quality he wanted) to make dinnerware for the US market. Johann branched out with a pottery in Bavaria (another suitable clay area). Both businesses went through many changes of owenrship. The Johann Haviland name is currently owned by Rosenthal, another well-known German pottery.

The bars and asterisks could indicate the batches or production line the particular items came from.

The Blue Garland pattern was first made in 1970, but discontinued in the 80s (when the company changed hands again). Being good quality, and not for "everyday" use, many pieces still exist. Replacements for broken ones are fairly easily available at reasonable prices, if you need to complete a set. (Just Google "Johann Haviland")

http://www.antique-china-porcelain-collectibles.com/porcelain_mark.htm
will give you an idea how complex the matter of marks is, though it mostly deals with real antiques. Your set would fall under the heading "collectible" but is not old enough to be antique.
http://www.robbinsnest.com/johann-haviland/
is a good site for replacements, probably cheaper and more reliable than trying on Ebay.

It would be a little easier to be sure about the arrows, if you had put in pictures of what you mean. For next time, you can upload pictures to Flickr or Photobucket, then put the links in here.

>>> You asked this in the USA, Dallas section, which is really meant only for questions relating to the city of Dallas. This kind of question might get better answers in
Games & Recreation - Hobbies section (has a lot of questions about collectibles) Home & Garden is another category read by people likely to know your answer.

Why do people act like such cheapskates at garage sales?

Adrianne L

I've been trying to have garage sale to eliminate excess clutter, but many people that stop act like you should put FREE on everything and constantly offer you about 10% of the asking price. It's already cheap enough - like a 12-place setting dinnerware for $20!!! One guy selected a crystal beverage set (24 lovely stemmed goblets) which I had marked $5 and held out his hand. I said "It's five dollars." Then he said "Yeah, so where's the five?" It appeared he expected me to PAY him $5 to take it off my hands. Such affrontery! I'm really getting soured on garage sales.

Answer
it is part of the experience. a guy who will spend $10 for a cigar, will brag how he saved 50 cents on that stemware. don't be so uptight.

My apartment-mates and I have a dinner schedule set up, so I'm responsible for dinner once a week. I need to be able to feed from 3 to 8 people, and one of them is allergic to deadly nightshades (includes tomatoes, among other things) and potatoes. I'm on a limited budget and I'd rather not have to take more than like 40 minutes to cook everything. Preferably not pasta, because that's all everyone eats normally. Thanks!

Some are items from overseas. The 12 piece china set, is
about a hundred years old, from overseas. I just keep them in
a closet. Silverware, believe gold plated, other have ivory handles on them. I have never used them for fear of breaking them, and I have my other china I use. Noritka and Rosendal,( sorry typo's) for quests that come over.

Answer
I always search for it on ebay. Just type in the name of the brand and usually something will pop up. People sell TONS of china and dinnerware on there. I have before.

Try looking on http://www.replacements.com I believe it's spelled "Noritake".

They have china and such for "replacement" usually they have some history and pricing on them.

Good Luck! I Know that can be a head ache.

Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud, and how does it relate to the person you are? *

Boarding the plane Germany was easy. I was ready for this trip. I was going to meet tons of people and I was going to speak perfect German with everyone and I was going to be totally comfortable with my host family. I was going to be the perfect exchange student. I would see every sight and talk to everyone I met and learn new and incredible things.

As soon as I stepped off the bus that took me from Stuttgart to Konstanz, I was humbled. People were speaking German so quickly that I couldnât understand, I felt shy and awkward, my host mother seemed so stern and aloof, I had no idea how I would ever survive. Over the next few days my tension eased, but things werenât going the way that I, cocky world traveler, had imagined. I had made some friends, gotten to know my host, Jojo, and seen some amazing places in the city. At the same time, though, I had accidentally fallen off my abnormally tall bike more than once, my German wasnât perfect, and my host mother was still as distant and awkward as ever.

It was my first Thursday morning when Jojo broke the news. That night she had a long basketball practice and her father was working late. I was going to be spending the entire evening with her mother.

Dorothea Schacht was terrifying. She was muscular and tough and quiet and I had only seen her smile a few times. I spent the entire day worrying about what was surely going to be an uncomfortable night.

I got home just as she was finishing up dinner. I set the table and we sat down to eat. Dorothea had gone through the trouble of making sauerkraut, even though it was out of season.

I hate sauerkraut.

With a smile, I ate the huge mound that she served me as we made small talk about the plans I had for the rest of my trip. When I finished she asked if I wanted more sauerkraut. I politely declined. She shook her head and said something about how I needed to eat more.

I ate another large helping.

As soon as dinner finished, we went and did the dishes. I washed quickly, hoping that Iâd be spared from more awkward Denglish (a distant cousin of Spanglish) conversations. No such luck.

As soon as we were done Dorothea offered to take me out to get ice cream. It was a sweet gesture and I was appreciative, but I wasnât exactly thrilled to spend more alone time with my scary host mother.

We borrowed the neighborâs car which struck me as a little odd, but they seemed to think nothing of it. The ride was short and quiet.

When we got to the Eis shop I ordered a single scoop of chocolate. She told me that I needed to eat more and changed my order to a double.

We spent a half an hour walking around the old part of the city and she showed me some interesting buildings and a few of the sights. Though I would still hesitate to describe her as warm, she seemed to open up a little bit and our conversation became less strained. We got back in the car and as we drove she told me about growing up in Heidelberg and why she moved to Konstanz.

Our next stop was a castle on the shore of the Bodensee. It had been converted into a restaurant and was run by a very sweet Thai woman. She and Dorothea were friends and we chatted with her as she gave us a tour of the castle. It was a strange restaurant. There were no guests the entire time we were there and I learned that they did not have a chef on staff. They ordered one in for nights when people made reservations. Everything about the castle/restaurant was very bizarre.

Driving home an hour later, my host mom asked me if anything seemed strange. It definitely did, but I wasnât sure how to phrase it so I just nodded. Smiling, she began to explain to me the history of the person running the restaurant and how she grew up as a boy in Thailand and was kidnapped and now she runs a little restaurant. The eccentricity of the entire situation finally broke the ice and I, at long last, began to feel comfortable around my host mother.

I still was not the perfect exchange student, but I was definitely one step closer.

I've revised the essay a little bit to try and fix some of the problems that people have pointed out. So if anyone is interested enough to read the new version I can send it to them or something. Thanks!

Answer
There's a lot of great stuff in this essay. You've done a wonderful job of description and characterization, and you've got a natural sense of humor that really comes through.

That said, I think you're going to have to find a way to cut and/or tighten some of the setup to make sure that you've addressed the entirety of the prompt: it's easy to see why this experience made an impression on you, but how does it illustrate your positive traits? You probably want to come across as a little less passively intimidated in your interactions with your host mother, and more as somebody who's willing to give anything a try once in spite of your misgivings. I think you should be able to pull it off with a few adjustments, though. Good luck!

Answer
I thinnk saldas are great - they are so versitie. And, some great soup. Here are some of my favorites:

Thai Waterfall Beef Salad

This beef salad recipe offers a feast of flavors & textures with every bite! This salad is based on the famous "Waterfall Beef" dish in Thailand, so called because of the splashing sound of juices falling on a hot grill. The beef is lightly grilled or oven-broiled, sliced thinly, then served with a mixture of salad greens & fresh papaya along with a special Thai dressing. Serve as the main course for a nutritious & oh-so-delicious dinner that's naturally high in protein & low in carbs.

1 to 2 sirloin steaks, depending on the amount of meat you prefer

Marinade:

2 tablespoon oyster sauce
2 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon lime or lemon juice
2 tablespoon brown sugar

For Salad:

1 large bowl salad greens
1 cup bean sprouts
handful of fresh mint or basil leaves, lightly chopped or torn
1 cup fresh coriander
1 cup fresh papaya, cubed (for tips on buying & preparing papaya, see below)
1 cup cherry tomatoes, left whole or sliced in half

Dressing:

2 tablespoon fish sauce (available at Asian food stores)
3 tablespoon lime or lemon juice
1+1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 tablespoon toasted & ground sticky rice, OR 2 tablespoon ground peanuts

Preparation:

For tips on preparing fresh papaya, see: Buying & Preparing Papaya.

Mix marinade ingredients together in a cup or bowl, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Pour over the steak(s), turning meat to coat. Set in the refrigerator to marinate.

For the ground sticky rice: Place 2 tablespoon uncooked sticky rice in a dry frying pan over medium-high heat. Stirring continuously, dry-fry the rice until it starts to pop & is lightly toasted. Remove rice from the pan & allow to cool slightly before grinding it up with a coffee grinder, or pounding into a powder with pestel & mortar.

Combine all salad dressing ingredients together in a cup or mixing bowl, stirring until sugar dissolves. Then prepare your bowl of greens & other salad ingredients.

Grill the steak over a hot grill, turning only once or twice to retain the juices (meat should still be pink in the center).

To Oven-Broil the Steak:

Set oven to BROIL setting. Place steak on a broiling pan OR on a foil or parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place in oven on second-to-highest rung. Broil 5-7 minutes per side, or until steak is well done on the outside but still pink on the inside.

While steak is cooking, toss the salad with the dressing. Taste-test for salt, adding more fish sauce if not salty enough, or more lime juice if too salty for your taste.

Portion out salad onto serving plates or bowls.

Slice the steak as thinly as you can. Top each portion with a generous amount of sliced sirloin & serve immediately. ENJOY!

=============================

Cream of Carrot Soup

1 1/2 pounds carrots, peeled & sliced (about 7 or 8 medium to large)
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter
2 teaspoons sugar
3 fresh sprigs thyme or 1 teaspoon dried thyme
2 medium potatoes, peeled, coarsely chopped
5 cups chicken stock
1/2 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup Maderia or sweet sherry
Salt & pepper to taste
Dash of cayenne pepper

Cook carrots with butter, sugar, thyme & potatoes in 4-quart pot over medium heat until carrots soften, about 10 minutes. Add stock & bring to simmer. Simmer soup until potatoes can be crushed with spoon, about 15 minutes.

Cool soup slightly. Working in small batches, transfer soup to blender or food processor. Puree until smooth. Return mixture to soup pot & whisk in cream & wine. Add salt & peppers. Return to heat & bring back to simmer. Remove from heat. Makes 6 servings.

I want to make a romantic dinner tonight for my girlfriend - any ideas or suggestions?

I want to do something special for my girlfriend tonight. So tonight I want her to come home to a nice, romantic, candlelight dinner. I really haven't cooked much, but I want to try it tonight. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I should make? Or the presentation or anything? I want to put on a really, really nice dinner for her tonight. Your help is appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Good luck and I hope that you both enjoy!

Appetizer: Red Pepper and Tapenade Slices
1 (8-ounce) can crescent rolls (recommended: Pillsbury)
1/2 cup marinara sauce (recommended: Prego)
1/2 cup jack cheese, shredded (recommended: Kraft)
3 tablespoons blue cheese, crumbled
1/4 cup olive tapenade
1/3 cup roasted red bell pepper, cut into strips
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
Remove crescent dough from can and unroll. Separate into 8 triangles. Lay pieces of dough on baking sheet. Top each slice with a spoonful of marinara sauce, some shredded jack and blue cheese, a spoonful of olive tapenade, and red bell pepper strips.
Bake in oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until edges are golden.

Pasta: You Won't Be Single For Long Vodka Cream Pasta
This recipe will make enough for 2 couples. If you plan a romantic evening where more than two's a crowd, reserve half the sauce to freeze for another supper before the addition of basil, and only cook 1/2 to 2/3 pound of penne.

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, once around the pan in a slow stream
1 tablespoon butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 shallots, minced
1 cup vodka
1 cup chicken stock
1 can crushed tomatoes (32 ounces)
Coarse salt and pepper
16 ounces pasta, such as penne rigate
1/2 cup heavy cream
20 leaves fresh basil, shredded or torn
Crusty bread, for passing
Heat a large skillet over moderate heat. Add oil, butter, garlic, and shallots. Gently saute shallots for 3 to 5 minutes to develop their sweetness. Add vodka to the pan, 3 turns around the pan in a steady stream will equal about 1 cup. Reduce vodka by half, this will take 2 or 3 minutes. Add chicken stock, tomatoes. Bring sauce to a bubble and reduce heat to simmer. Season with salt and pepper.
While sauce simmers, cook pasta in salted boiling water until cooked to al dente (with a bite to it). While pasta cooks, prepare your salad or other side dishes.
Stir cream into sauce. When sauce returns to a bubble, remove it from heat. Drain pasta. Toss hot pasta with sauce and basil leaves. Pass pasta with crusty bread

Main Course: Garlic Roast Chicken with Rosemary and Lemon
2 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into large chunks
6 cloves garlic, crushed
3 tablespoons fresh rosemary leaves stripped from stems
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, eyeball it
1 lemon, zested and juiced
1 tablespoon grill seasoning blend (recommended: Montreal Seasoning) or, coarse salt and black pepper
1/2 cup dry white wine or chicken broth
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
Arrange chicken in a baking dish, 9 by 13-inch. Add garlic, rosemary, extra-virgin olive oil, lemon zest and grill seasoning or salt and pepper to the dish. Toss and coat the chicken with all ingredients, then place in oven. Roast 20 minutes. Add wine and lemon juice to the dish and combine with pan juices. Return to oven and turn oven off. Let stand 5 minutes longer then remove chicken from the oven. Place baking dish on trivet and serve, spooning pan juices over the chicken pieces.

Salad: Your Basic Tossed Salad
2 hearts romaine lettuce
2 small plum tomatoes, diced
1 Kirby cucumber or 1/4 European seedless cucumber, diced
1 small yellow onion or 1/2 red onion, chopped
1 carrot, peeled and shredded
1 /4 cup (a couple of glugs) extra-virgin olive oil,
2 to 3 tablespoons (a couple of splashes) red wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
Coarse salt and black pepper

Place salad greens in a salad bowl and top with tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, and carrot. Place oil, vinegar and sugar in a small plastic container. Put the lid on the container and shake dressing until sugar dissolves, about 1 minute. Pour dressing over salad. Season salad with salt and pepper, to taste, and toss to combine.

Chocolate Cups with Whipped Cream
Make your dessert first for this menu to allow these chocolate cups to set and chill: This recipe is a no bake pot de creme, no kidding.

2/3 cup whole milk
1 egg
2 tablespoons sugar
Pinch salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons hazelnut liqueur or dark rum
4 demitasse cups
1 cup whipping cream
2 tablespoons sugar
Mint sprigs, for garnish, optional

Heat milk in a small pan over moderate heat until it comes to a boil.
In blender or food processor combine egg, sugar, a pinch of salt, semisweet chips, and liqueur. Run processor or turn on blender to low setting. Pour in boiling milk in a slow stream. The hot milk will cook egg and melt chocolate. Process or blend 1 minute, until smooth.
Spoon chocolate into 4 demitasse cups and chill. After dinner, beat cream until soft peaks form. Add a little sugar and beat to combine. Top the chocolate cups with a dollop of cream and garnish each cup with mint sprigs.
Place cups on saucers and serve with demitasse spoons. If you use teacups, this recipe will yield 2 cups, rather than 4.

What's an easy recipe that makes a romantic dinner?

Debby W

I want to make a romantic dinner for my boyfriend and I need some easy recipes that are yummy and ideas for how to make the night romantic. Please help!

Answer
Always think light and inexpensive...the wine is always your main focus in a romantic dinner. Grape based is always the way to go for one the flavor and two it encourages drinking more which we all know speeds the heart up and leads to a wild night making love.
I would suggest something fairly easy
Shopping List
Olive oil if nones at home
Xpress Rice not sure what the brand is at your local store but these come in a variety of flavors. I know of Betty Crocker and Thai Express Chicken Helper..once you reach this part of grocery store you'll see bunch of them look for Mexican or Wild Rice or Jambalaya those are my favorite but the options is all yours to choose pick one based on allergy info or personal taste some of them will contain cheese or beans. I suggest taking an extra box just in case you mess up cooking one.
Next head to the freezer and find preseasoned boneless chicken breasts get about 2 pieces and oh yeah asparagus and thyme.
Dont forget the chocolate mousse cake and the Barry White cd or luther vandross please
Also if you dont have any good china glassware and silverware at home like i do. Gets a pair especially the wine glass.
Head Home
First Place both wine glass empty in the freezer and the wine in the fridge to chill.
Start with the instructions on the box for the rice..usually it will have you start off with a pan of boiling water. Then add rice stir a few and lower heat to its lowest setting and leave for a few mins. Please note on rice use your best judgement call if you open the rice pot too much will ruin it it should take bewteen 10 - 15 mins based on what is said in the instructions if you have a see thru pyrex to cook the rice that'll be great.
Start up another flame a nice saute pan will do great put about 1/4 cup olive oil and cook the asparagus on high heat til crispy brown. You are free to take one out and nibble at it to see if its ready.
Dont forget the rice!!!
Take out cooked asparagus set aside
Get the two pieces of chicken and insert to fry on high heat about 12 mins on each side. Keep rotating chicken until cooked.
Once cooked re insert asparagus and shake the pot cuz we wont be able to flip it like them chefs on tv the seasons off the chicken will blend with the asparagus once blended. Get a knife and scrape the fresh leaves off the thyme and simmer with a cover on low heat this will seal flavor and make you hungry.
Now we wait for mr rice.
The hardest thing about a romantic dinner is timing you dont want it too hot when hes home or too cold. Thats why i suggested the low flames slow cooking that will keep it hot and extend the time til he reaches home. This recipe will invest you about half hour or less..
DONT FORGET TURN OFF THE PHONES.
Have the wine glass ready LUTHER OR BARRY should be sounding out in the house at a low enough volume not to disturb but enhance the mood and the wine preferably wrapped in a new linen on the table when hes in the drive way. Have the china plates by the stove and ask him to call about 5 mins away from the house. Candles should already be lit andsilverware wrapped you should already be in something comfortable and smelling good. Have his robe hanging by the door amd as soon as he steps in strip him of his clothes and put his robe on. And lead him to the table i guarantee he will take over...and have the chocalate mousse sliced and already in the bedroom after the meal say "its time for dessert and pull him to the bedroom feed him tease him and you can take it from there.

I am looking for top quality dinnerware for 20 people?

Elizabeth7

If your budget is limited buy three, 8 piece. sets at Wall*Mart, that way you have 4 extra settings to replace what breaks.

dinnerware and drinkware: should I get sets of 8 or 12?

I am soon buying new sets of dinnerware and drinkware. Should I get sets of 8 or 12? My family is composed of my husband, myself, and our 16 months old son, and we dont entertain very often.

Answer
Are you purchasing very expensive items? Investing in settings for twelve will carry you in good stead for many years (unless it's Melmac, there will be breakage) and you can always pass it on to the next generation. How big is your extended family? Lots of things to consider, but I suggest service for 8 in a moderate price range; don't break the bank......your taste may change sooner than you think.

Where can i get placemats for Hometrends Bazaar Brown dinnerset?

Tony

I bought the 16 piece dinner set at walmart and I'm trying to find the place mats that are shown on the box and walmart doesn't have them. Please send me a link where I can find them! Thank you

Answer
Try Overstock.com and E-Bay. I bought a 60 piece set of Christmas dinnerware from a company called Domestications about 15 years ago. One of the dinner plates was recently dropped and broke into a thousand pieces. I had to replace it asap and found the dinner plate on E-bay for about $8.00 including shipping. They have some good stuff on E-Bay. I was surprised.

China Dinnerware "Service for"?

Jessie

I'm looking in to buying some new China Dinnerware. The thing is I'm not sure on the right "service for" number. I have a rather large family both on my side and with my in-laws. I want to get the right number so that when I have everyone over for the holidays we donât run out. Can anyone help?

Answer
mom says to count the maximum number of guests you expect at one time then add four extra

12 guests + 4 spare = 16

you would order a service for 16 - that way if one ever got broken or you needed a plate to set a cake on you have it

dinnerware containing lead-based paint sold in Ikea or Target stores?

katie

How do you tell if there is lead in your dinnerware? Any warning label? WHat about buying products from a chinesebazaar in chinatown? I wanted to buy a tea set, but do you think it had lead?

Answer
Many years ago somebody discovered that a chemical compound called Titanium Dioxide was much more refractive than Lead Oxide, much lighter, completely non-toxic, and much much cheaper.

Since that time all pigments in paints and packaging, plastics paper and the loaf of white bread and a 'mars bar' you just bought, - have contained Titanium Dioxide. You eat at least a kilo of it each year, and spend all your time dressed in, and living in coats of the stuff.

The bottom fell out of the Lead Paint market as soon as this stuff hit the production lines - so forget about the lead poisoning scares, they are urban myths spread by dumb tv presenters and people.
