I'm looking for dinnerware for daily use, that holds up but still looks nice. What brands would you recommend or what brands to stay away from?

Answer
I use Corelle (I think that's how you spell it). My set came with 8 dinner plates, 8 dessert plates, 8 bowls and 8 mugs.
There's something special about it... I've dropped dishes hundreds of times and NEVER broken one! They are microwave and dishwasher safe. They come in lots of pretty styles and patterns.

Anniversary dinner in Tulsa, Oklahoma?

chris

I am taking my wife out of town for our one year anniversary. I'm looking for a nice restaurant to take her to, any ideas on a nice place to eat? thanks

Answer
Here are some ideas!

Seafood--Red Lobster: This is my favorite restaurant of all time. I always get the shrimp cocktail, the free cheesy biscuits, and a chocolate banana bay smoothie! Islamorada Fish Company, the restaurant connected to Bass Pro Shops is tasty as well. Ask to sit on the patio, there is a beautiful view of the lake!

Italian--Olive Garden--You can't beat their signature salad and breadsticks! Zios and Romano's Macaroni Grill are two other nice italian restaurants.

Asian--Shogun Steak House--A bit on the pricey side, but the show is well worth it. The waiters cook the food right in front of you. They do cool things like setting the table on fire! Cheaper Asian restaurants would be Te-Kei's, or P.F. Changs.

Variety--Cheesecake Factory--Expensive, but has a nice atmosphere and a huge selection of food choice.

I would recommend NOT going to:

The Redrock Canyon Grill--The food is mediocre at best, and it is extremely overpriced.

If you and your wife have a restaurant that is sentimental, I suggest you go there. I hope this helps!

Company xmas party confusion/advice?

Rubo

Hi,

I have decided to go to the xmas party and I have been told food & drink is being 'paid for'. Now this may sound stupid but does this mean the company is paying for the food & drink?

Lastly, some of the employees would like to stay out all night and party but I dont want to drink too much and stay out too long. So is it ok for me to leave the party when I'm ready? its just that i dont want to offend anyone.

Thanks in advance

Answer
Generally this means that a set dinner menu and tickets for two drinks are provided.

Space out your consumption of any alcoholic drinks. You should probably stop at one or two. It's a major no-no to get tipsy at a company party. People will start leaving half an hour after the dessert is served. That's a little too early in my opinion, but it's acceptable to leave half an hour after that, when the party gets down to the serious after-dinner drinking.

Take courteous leave of the company honchos when you go, and tell them it was a nice dinner.

Microwavable non-plastic dinnerware sets for kids?

AngelSkywa

Where can I find them? All the kids (not infants) designs are all plastic, and I don't like to microwave plastic plates/bowls. I'm looking for ceramic or corning type of sets but smaller for kids (3-12).

Answer
I've been looking for these for a long time and have given up the hunt. Just buy regular tempered glass sets and try to teach them to eat without knocking it over.

I started having my 20-month old use ceramic plates and bowls when she turned 18 months and it's worked out well so far. I just need to clear the table when she is done... no broken dishes so far. I also just got these silicone-covered glass cups from amazon for regular use: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LVU218/ref=oss_product

Female friend taking me to dinner?

Invisble

Lately I had been helping her with IT stuff with her computer such as removing virus and other things. Because of all my help she feels that she should treat me. So she totally insisted of taking to me to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Cheesecake Factory is a restaurant on the top floor of Macyâs located Union Square in San Francisco, CA. I was thinking may be she should treat me to something else. 1.) Itâs expensive to eat there and 2.) The setting of the restaurant donât feel appropriate for friends to eat out, itâs more of a place for couples to eat out, unless you with a group of people and which that will not be the case for us.

http://sfcitizen.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/img_0048-copy.jpg
I posted a link of what the restaurant looks like.

Answer
I think you're putting too much thought into this.

Your friend wants to treat you to a nice dinner for all of the hard work you've done for her (that she'd normally have to pay over 100 dollars for). Don't insult her by declining because of her restaurant choice. Go and enjoy yourself. It's The Cheesecake Factory, not The Four Seasons.

Where to get an really nice dinnerware set for Thanksgiving?

Q. This is my first Thanksgiving in my new house and we are have guest. I want a beautiful table but can't seem to find an elegant pumpkin dinnerware set. I have searched all the big stores ie Macy's, Kohl's, JC Penny's, Belks etc and nothing. I have spent hours on the internet and cant seem to find anything that gives a WOW Factor.

Answer
Probably there are not a lot of pumpkin dinnerware choices, unless you do paper plates. I did find a cute pumpkin soup set, that might be good to accompany your dinner. If you just had really nice plates, and then some napkins that were festive that might be nice too. Check out these pumpkin soup bowls at Target, It think they are cute. If not soup, they could have gravy in them, or salad, or pumpkin custard for dessert!

How do you set a proper etiquette table?

xelaxela10

You see, my mom just applied and got hired for a proper etiquette dining staff. She has experience but can't seem to remember everything. Things she does remember: Where the forks, nives, napkins condiments etc. go exept the soup and desert spoons. She knows you put the desert spoon on top but doesn't know where the soup spoon goes. + When you don't need the desert spoon where does the soup spoon go?

Answer
Table Setting 101
By: Allrecipes Staff

Worried about what fork to use? Learn how to set a proper table.

The basic place setting assumes that the meal will consist of salad, bread, soup, beverages and a main course with dessert and coffee following (with the plates and cups being delivered to the table immediately before serving). To be sure that your dinner table is set as "correctly" as possible, refer to our simple rules for basic place settings:

Plates and Bowls
Dinner plates should be placed approximately 2 inches from the table's edge, centered on the placemat (if using placemats) or squarely in front of each chair.
Soup bowls are placed on top of the dinner plate.
Salad plates are placed to the left of and just above the forks.
The bread plate should be placed to the right and slightly above the salad plate.
When serving multiple courses, many hosts will opt to serve them in courses and place only one or the other dish at the original table setting. For example, if soup will be served first, the soup bowl will be placed on top of the dinner plate and the salad dish will be brought out after the soup bowl and spoon has been cleared.
Silverware
Silverware should be placed on the table in the order it will be used; silverware that will be used first should be found on the farthest left and right sides of the plate.
Forks are placed to the left of the dinner plate; knives and spoons go to the right.
Knives should be placed with their cutting-edge toward the dinner plate, except the butter knife which should be laid flat on a bread plate.
Utensils should be about 1/2-inch away from the plate or each other, and they should also be lined up evenly from their bottoms.
Avoid placing more silverware than the meal calls for.
Dessert silverware can be originally placed at the table setting if you wish. The dessert fork or spoon should be centered above and parallel to the dinner plate.
If you will be serving dishes that require specialty silverware, be sure to arrange the silverware on either side of the plate according to the order in which they will be eaten.
Cups and Glasses
Water glasses should be placed above the dinner knife, with other drinking glasses arranged neatly nearby the water glass. Often drinking glasses are arranged in a triangular formation.
Coffee cups and saucers may be placed on the table to the right of the knife and spoon.
Other Items
Napkins are commonly placed on the plate, to the left of the forks or inside of a drinking glass.
Name cards are always a good idea for place settings, if the dinner party is large. Place the card above the dessert utensil, to the left of the drinking glasses.

What is good dinner etiquette?

Q. British etiquette preferably? Some of the basic rules to stick to.

Answer
British table manners:

The fork is held in your left hand and the knife is held in your right.
You should hold your knife with the handle in your palm and your fork in the other hand with the prongs pointing downwards.
If youâre eating a dessert, your fork (if you have one) should be held in the left hand and the spoon in the right.
When eating soup, you should hold your spoon in your right hand and tip the bowl away from you, scooping the soup in movements away from yourself.
It is not acceptable to use your fingers at the table to eat or push food onto your fork. You may, however, eat some foods such as fruit, sandwiches, burgers, crisps, chips or pizza with your fingers.
If there are a number of knives or forks, then you should start from the outside set working your way in as each course is served.
Drinks should always be to the right of your plate with the bread roll to the left.
When eating bread rolls, break off a piece before buttering. Use your knife only to butter the bread, not to cut it.
You should not start eating before your host does or instructs you to do so. At larger meals, it is considered okay to start eating once others have been served.
When youâre finished, place your knife and fork together at six oâclock with your fork on the left (tines facing up) and knife on the right, with the knife blade facing in. This signals that you are finished.
Your serviette should never be screwed up. Nor should it be folded neatly as that would suggest that your host might plan to use it again without washing it - just leave is neatly but loosely.
Never blow your nose on your serviette. Place it on your lap and use it to dab your mouth if you make a mess.
It is considered rude to answer the telephone at the table. If you need to take an urgent call, excuse yourself and go outside.
Always ask for permission from the host and excuse yourself if you need to leave the table. You should place your napkin on your seat until you return.
If you must leave the table or are resting, your fork should be at eight oâclock and your knife at four oâclock (with the blade inwards). Once an item of cutlery has been used, it should not touch the table again.
The food should be brought to your mouth on the fork; you should sit straight and not lean towards your plate.
Dishes should be served from the right, and taken away from the right. Unless the food is placed on your plate at the table, then it should arrive from the left.
Drinks should be served from the right.
Never lean across somebody elseâs plate. If you need something to be passed, ask the person closest to it. If you have to pass something, only pass it if you are closest to it and pass it directly to them if you can.
Salt & pepper should be passed together.
Do not take food from a neighbourâs plate and donât ask to do so.
You must not put your elbows on the table.
If pouring a drink for yourself, offer to pour a drink for your neighbours before serving yourself.
If extra food is on the table, ask others first if they would like it before taking it yourself.
When chewing food, close your mouth and only talk when you have swallowed it. Working class or regional British ettiquette is not to converse at all, unless it is necessary).
Swallow all food before eating more or having a drink.
Do not slurp your food or eat loudly. Burping or sneezing at the table should be avoided, too.
Never pick food out of your teeth with your fingernails.
Try to eat all the food you are served.
Never disparage HM The Queen, even in jest
Glasses served in a wine glass or other stemmed-glass should be held at the stem.
Always remember âregularâ manners. Remember to say "please" and "thank you".

Is it time Jewish people pay reparations to Blacks for slavery ?

Ted Bell

Or should they just move on now?
That's old history.
Columbus was accompanied by five 'maranos' (Jews who had foresworn their religion and supposedly became Catholics), Luis de Torres, interpreter, Marco, the surgeon, Bemal, the physician, Alonzo de la Calle and Gabriel Sanchez (1).

Gabriel Sanchez, abetted by the other four Jews, sold Columbus on the idea of capturing 500 Indians and selling them as slaves in Seville, Spain, which was done. Columbus did not receive any of the money from the sale of the slaves, but he became the victim of a conspiracy fostered by Bemal, the ship's doctor. He, Columbus, suffered injustice and imprisonment as his reward. Betrayed by the five maranos (Jews) whom he had trusted and helped. This, ironically, was the beginning of slavery in the Americas
The Jews were expelled from Spain on August 2, 1492, and from Portugal in 1497. Many of these Jews emigrated to Holland, where they set up the Dutch West Indies Company to exploit the new world.

In 1654, the first Jew, Jacob Barsimson, emigrated from Holland to New Amsterdam (New York) and in the next decade many more followed him, settling along the East Coast, principally in New Amsterdam and Newport, Rhode Island. They were prevented by ordinances issued by Governor Peter Stuyvesant from engaging in the domestic economy, so they quickly discovered that the territory inhabited by the Indians would be a fertile field. There were no laws preventing the Jews from trading with the Indians
New York was also the main source of Kosher meat, supplying the North American settlements, then the West Indies and also South America. Now Newport took over! Newport also became the great trade harbour of the East Coast of North America. There, vessels from other ports met, to exchange commodities. Newport, as previously mentioned, represented the foremost place in the commerce of rum, whiskey, and liquor dealings. And to conclude, it finally became the Main Center of Slave dealings. It was from this port that the ships left on their way across the ocean, to gather their black human cargo and then derive great sums of money in exchange for them.

An authentic, contemporary report, based on authority, indicates that of 128 Slave ships, for instance, unloaded in Charleston, within one year, their "Cargo," 120 of these were undersigned by Jews from Newport and Charleston by their own name. About the rest of them, one can surmise, although they were entered as Boston (1), Norfolk (2),
At first, they presented them with rum, and soon found themselves in an alcoholic delirium. When the gold dust, and ivory supply was exhausted, they were induced to sell their descendants. At first their wives, and then their youths. Then they began warfare among each other, plotted and developed mostly by the Jews, and if they captured prisoners, these, too, were exchanged for rum, ammunitions and weapons to the Jews', using them for further campaigns to capture more Negroes. The captured Blacks were linked two by two and driven through the medieval forests to the coast. These painful treks required weeks, and some of them frequently became ill, and felled by exhaustion, and many unable to rise even though the bull whip was applied as an encourager. They were left to die and were devoured by wild beasts. It was not unusual to see the bones of the dead laying in the tropical sun, a sad and gruesome reminder to those who would later on tread this path.
all this happened long ago and they have it much better here they should just move on.
Well the Germans have been paying for things they say happened to jews put they and only they get money from people who did nothing to them that complain all the time even it is proven most of what they say happened in fact never did happen.
In fact most would agree a lot of bull they made up .Every story turned out to be a lie how strange is that.?
These jews still run the slave trade today and most jews do not believe in any god but they do think they will become their own god.
5 nations left without a Rothschild controlled central bank: Iran; North Korea; Sudan; Cuba; Libya
This gives one an idea how the Jews managed to acquire tremendous fortunes. Following the bargaining, Captain Freedman paid the bill, either in merchandise or cash. He also recalled some advice which his Jewish employers gave him as he left Newport for Africa: "Pour as much water into the rum as you possibly can." In this manner the Negro chiefs were cheated two times by the Newport Jews!

The next step was to shave the hair from the head of the acquired slaves. Then they were bound and branded with a hot iron, either on the back, or the hip, identifying them with their owners. Now the Negro slave was indeed the property of the Jewish purchaser. If he fled he could be identified. Following this procedure, there was a farewell celebration. There were instances when entire families were brought out of the interior, to the coast, and then separated through the buyerâthe father going with one ship, the sons and daughters into another. These "farewell" celebrations were usually packed wi
The ships belonged to the Dutch west Inian co.(Jewish)the captains all (JEWISH) crews (jewish)they also owned 40% of the slaves.
Most jews do not believe in god but they think they are gods. They worship money and power.

Answer
1. Since the overwhelming majority of the slave trade was done by "Christians," why would "Jews" owe reparations for anything?

2. Oh that's right, you're citing an "article" from a hate site that claims it was those pesky Jews. I poked around it. They also espouse the arguments that Jews are responsible for pretty much everything negative in the world and urge more reading on people like Coughlin, the priest who defended the nazis and particularly kristalnacht on the radio and helped inspire and defend the supremacist "Christian Front."

3. If you had been correct, why would members who share a religion be responsible for all the actions of their co-religionists? Are you responsible for the inquisition? Forced conversion or genocide of pagans across Europe?

4. Did I mention tin foil hat time?

The truth will set you free.

The Clergyâs Charge
By David Abel
Globe Staff

BROOKLINE â When he first showed up a few months ago, the bearded man in the bright Sephardic yarmulke stood out from the synagogueâs other congregants. For one thing, he carried a crucifix. During services, he constantly walked in and out of the sanctuary. And after the rabbiâs sermons, the former salesman would clap - a no-no in any temple.

At Young Israel of Brookline, the first impulse of most congregants was to help Milton Kapner, a 52-year-old fellow Jew who had been living in his green Buick since the summer. The rabbi welcomed him to services, answered his questions in classes, and bought him a membership to a health spa so he could shower. Others offered him clothes or took him out for dinners at nice restaurants. One woman even gave him a place to stay for the night.

But after a few months - when, temple officials say, he harassed congregants, crashed a wedding, and twice forced them to call the police - they barred him from the synagogue. Most recently, Kapner, who plays music for money in Harvard Square, stood in front of the temple and heckled congregants as they arrived for services.

Your rense interview: When I was eight years old, my parents took me to my cousin's Bar Mitzvahâ¦We entered into an old, musty smelling synagogue, which had the Jewish Star of David everywhere⦠After only ten minutes of being inside, I got nauseated and wanted to vomit. The synagogue seemed to have a deathly pall about it. And I couldn't bear looking at the Jewish Star everywhereâ¦It was then at the age of eight, through my experience in that old, musty smelling synagogue, that I knew that Judaism was a religion of death.

Do you have special dishes to serve for holiday dinners?

Isadora

Have you collected holiday and Christmas dishes over the years, or have dishes handed down that are a holiday tradition?
I have a part of a set that belonged to my mother, roses with gold trim, that I use for special intimate meals.
For my big meals, I have a set of Amberstone and another set of Marcrest that I have been collecting for 40 years. I have enough to serve about 30 people! If my house would hold them! I usually augment them with Christmas and holly serving pieces, and pressed glass dessert dishes.
That Amberstone is like ironstone, you could use it for frisbies and it wouldn't break. I have never broken a single plate of it, do I don't worry about it. And I can always replace it. It would just give me something to look for in the flea markets. They are just dishes.

Answer
I have a set of china. white design on white, with platinum trim. Very pretty . Service for 12. But, since we moved to a smaller place, these dishes and china hutch are buried under other stuff in a little room behind the garage. Can't get to them. No room in the house for them.

So, on holidays, I use my white everyday dishes. No pattern at all. But, with my red holiday table cloth & matching napkins, along with a candle centerpiece, very pretty holiday table.

I do have a triangular shaped dish of clear glass, with a grape design that we use for cranberry sauce. And a long glass dish that originally came from Avon, that had decorative soaps. We use that dish now for olives. Green on one end, black on the other...These are a tradition that go back to the days when my kids were small, and there was no money for fancy things. Worthless dishes, but traditional on our table, which makes them treasures for us.

Are you having a reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year. My girlfriend's family is having hot pot?

Sankee

tonight. What other kind of reunion dinner you can have ?

Answer
We are having a Chinese hot pot too tonight. Since its a weekday, its more convenient to buy the raw ingredients, set up a pot of boiling water, make a broth and every one can just cook on the table and eat together. Reunion dinner is all about having the family sitting and eating together. There is no particular rules what kind of reunion dinner you can or cannot have. Some families may have time to cook an elaborate Chinese dinner at home. You can also have it in the restaurants with those expensive stuff like abalone, sharks fin, sea cucumber, roasted ducks/pig, fish etc to bring in the good luck for CNY. You can even have a potluck, each family member brings something to share or you can order pizza, KFC, even tacos or burritos etc. The main and important concept for a CNY reunion dinner, is for all the family members to sit and eat together without fighting or quarrelling. Just like having a thanksgiving dinner to be thankful and that the family is still together for the past years and for more years to come *

If my story is set in a fictional town, can I...?

.....

In my story, I made up my own town. I'm wondering about a few things though, namely using real places. I am wondering especially about using places such fast food restaurants (McDonald's, KFC etc.) and cinemas (such as Village cinemas which are in Australia). Could I use them? Or would it interfere with copyright and stuff?

Thanks!

Answer
As others have stated, yes, you can use brand names in your story as long as you use them as background only and they aren't portrayed negatively. For instance, I wouldn't have someone murdered in the KFC, or say they closed the local McDonald's because of an E. coli outbreak.

Now that you feel comfortable that you can use brand names, I'm not sure that I would. Many many years ago I used to like Dean R. Koontz, and read everything of his that I could find. By overdosing on him, I realized certain things, like most of his protagonists like to down a Dos Equis with dinner. That's a small thing, but when it pops up again and again in your stories, it becomes a distraction.

Don't name drop excessively. After all, these companies aren't paying you.

corelle dinnerware products?

kiitiikat

i am really interested in corelle dinnerware products, however, these products got really high heat transfer. could we be able to change anything? Katherine...

Answer
No idea what you are asking. Who is WE?

Corelle plates and dishes surpass other dinnerware popularity because they are UNBREAKABLE... even when DROPPED on a floor! No one uses them in an oven, although they can be safely microwaved or placed in a warm oven to keep a plate warm for someone coming home late. If a soup bowl or a coffee cup should break, they can be replaced free of charge with a LIFETIME warranty at any place that sells the product. Any household with toddlers or clumsy children should invest in these dishes which are widely available at inexpensive prices and even secondhand shops in a vast array of colours and designs to coordinate with decor or personal taste. I have been using them for longer than my 19-yr old son has been alive, and I have never once scorched a wooden tabletop, burned a linen tablecloth, or melted a vinyl placemat with a single Corelle dish, plate, bowl, cup, or platter. No one who uses the Corelle dishes in my house even knows what "high heat transfer" means! ;-)

Corelle's parent company CORNINGWARE and the Anchor Hocking Company also make a line of PYREX baking dishes and cooking pots. These however are NOT unbreakable. I have shattered two of them in an oven while adding room temperature broth to a hot roasting dish. But that was my mistake, not the bakeware's. The very molecular ovensafe nature of Pyrex itself makes it necessary for them to conduct heat well. As with ANY other type of casserole or baking dish, these never go onto a table set for a family meal in any way shape or form. In my house, they go onto a large butcherblock cutting board padded with dishtowels, and the hot food entrees are served in portions without moving the container. Much less hassle that way with reduced chance for burns, spills, stains and other kitchen calamities.

So, once again, I do not understand why or what you wish to change. If it ain't broke, don't fix it ;-)

Corelle Dinnerware - SQUARE DESIGNS - help!!!?

Blueberry

Does anyone own any Corelle Dinnerware - the SQUARE designs?

We are looking to make our first Corelle "investment" and are excited, but for
3-days now I can't decide on the right set for our home. You would think that
picking out a new dinnerware set is pretty easy but on the contrary! I read
reviews and some of the consumers love the dinnerware but the designs/patterns
are nothing like what is advertised. Meaning, the color of the designs are
usually "off" or lighter, faded and less brighter than advertised......

With that, I want to know from those who have purchased any of the Corelle
Dinnerware - SQUARE designs:

1. Which pattern/design did YOU choose?
2. Is it what you EXPECTED?
3. Are you happy and pleased with it?
4. Do you RECOMMEND that design?
5. Would you purchase that particular design again if given the opportunity?

Thanks in advance!!!! Your opinions will save me from making a bad corelle decision, if there is such a thing....

Answer
Why not go to Walmart or some other store that actually carries Corelleware and look at the dishes in person? That is the only way you are going to see the actual color and design.

You need to pick a design you like, because they will be with you for a long time. I still have Corelle dinnerware that I bought thirty plus years ago.

The scoop on wedding china?

farmgirl

Is it a gift for your wedding? Is it something you purchase for your wedding?

Answer
It is a gift for your wedding. I already had my late mother's 1964 Lenox set with platinum trim so I was all set. I think if I had registered, it would have instead been for stoneware - Williams Sonoma restaurant dinnerware, which is what we now use for everyday. My step-grandmother took me shopping for our first set of casual dinnerware, and other step family members got us serving pieces and cups for that same pattern.

wedding gift lists?

does anyone know any good websites for wedding gifts - need to create a gift list for my wedding and cant find any decent sites.

Best answer gets the points

Looking for good scary stories for adults...?

Jeramie M

I'm looking for a few good halloween scary stories that will give adults (age ranges 25 through 35) the willies. Any websites will be apprieciated. The more twisted the better, nothing is taboo, and this group is impossible to offend, so give me the goriest and/or twisted stroies you have found on the net, videos, blogs, etc all welcome!
umm sadly single, I'm not trying to have people believe them, there just scary stories not reality, you know for halloween fun, no one is taking these as facts.

love this is a very long one to read you mite want to print it out in read it :)las08

By myself, with my thoughts, still alone. Almost.

Lightning split the night sky without a sound, illuminating the skeletal trees outside. The old Victorian house shook to its very foundations once the peal of thunder rumbled hatefully across the shimmering, tempestuous lake. Illuminated also were the figures at the window staring in at me. I suppose they were staring, it was hard to tell, since they never appear to have eyes.

From inside a blurry, detached tunnel vision, I saw my trembling hand reach for the nearly empty decanter of scotch on the living room table. A dribble of the amber liquid spilled onto the table, vanishing without a trace. I could smell ozone in the room, overpowering the scent of age and mildew. The atmosphere was definitely electrically charged, and it wasn't only a result of the storm.

One thing about it, you can't drink away these visions. I have tried. And tried.

Awake for going on sixty hours, hallucinations would be a given. But these apparitions are real -- too real -- individualized nightmares custom tailored just for me. I can't go to sleep because they talk to me, inside my head mostly, whispering unimaginable things about loss, suffering and death. And they touch me with icy, whispery fingers -- not physically exactly -- it's much worse, from the inside out. They want me to suffer a long, slow demise. Not that they did. Lucky? I suppose not, but anything had to be better than the languid, torturous free-fall into a sleep-deprived madness exacerbated by a constantly gnawing, blinding fear.

The visitations first started in a driving rainstorm forty thousand feet above Phoenix, as I was preparing for final descent. I turned to acknowledge my co-pilot's approach vector and autopilot setting to descend at 1500 feet per minute, when I observed a dull luminescence hovering outside the starboard side cabin window, an impossibility at just under 550 knots. Slowly, the moon-shape became more distinct, and yet it was hard to envision fully, as if it had been glimpsed out of the corner of one's eye. But I knew (in my thundering, rampaging heart, perhaps?) that it was the beatific face of a young girl, the streaming rain on the window giving her the appearance of weeping, even though there was absolute blackness where the eyes should have been.

"Ross . . . ?" my co-pilot spoke urgently.

The girl's face was mouthing words, words I could not hear, but instead feel. She was calling for her mother, in a soul-wrenching, desperate ' voice' that was emoted to me, at once searing my soul, and sending icy shards stabbing up my spine. Horribly, she reminded me of my own daughter, in the custody of her mother after a long and bitter divorce.

The apparition vanished without preamble, and hands shaking, I quickly rejoined the busy routine of preparing a Boeing 747-400 for landing, just before final approach. I couldn't tell my co-pilot about what I had seen -- what I thought I had seen . . . I would surely be grounded.

The landing at Phoenix International went without further incident, in spite of the unusual rain storm seemingly isolated in a small area around the airport. Once the wheels touched the runway, the rain seemed to vanish altogether. I initially dismissed the occurrence in the cabin as the aftermath of a bad burrito dinner, but found I could not shake off the overpowering feeling of depression and loss imparted to me by the little girl.

I was grounded after that, however, not due to the incident over Phoenix, but because of the ongoing investigation into a "near miss" event one month before.

The supernatural sightings increased in frequency after that, as did my further decline into depression, paranoia and insomnia. It was nearly always the same, the obscured little girl just outside a window -- any window -- beseechingly crying for her mother's comfort, or perhaps begging to get in. Finally, I attempted an escape to my late father's old Victorian on Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana.

In time, a very short time, she began making her appearances outside the windows at night. No matter if I shuttered them tightly, the vague iridescent figure beckoning to gain entry appeared askance, finally turning to face me, ripping out my heart and freezing my soul with her palpable sadness and longing. Worse still, she was slowly being joined by others; eventually, I counted eighteen distinct personalities, male and female, assorted ages. I could hear murmurs, whispers, grousing, (all in my head, I think) questioning, cajoling, and condemning. A conflicting whirlwind of strong emotions hammered my psyche, seeding the poisonous germ of guilt --about what, I was not sure. Despite a state of paranoia-fed fear and near constant panic, I found I could not muster the courage to leave the house.

The violent hurricane had blown in from the Gulf of Mexico, fortunately downgrad

not my favorite but it works. It's horrocore. If you don't know what horrorcore is about, don't criticize the content. Just because it's dark doesn't mean it's not rap.

Take a walk behind my eyes, on one track of time,
to the back of my mind, letâs see what I find, I run
And I hide from my darkest of sides, itâs beside me
How violently the gears are grinding deep inside. I
Writhe and cry as the cyanide through my veins keeps
The nightmares alive. Theyâre right there inside, they
Connive the knives into the sides of my mind. The temples
Of time, I climb to the top, then fall in the slime. Waiting
In the line of fire to step on a mine, an explosion of rhyme.
It must be a crime, to be so sick in the mind, take some meds,
Youâll turn out just fine. On the highway to heaven I forgot
How to drive, swerved off the path, how screwed up am I?
Rewindin back through my brain, the storyâs the same, brought
A sword on a chain, my sanityâs slain. No dragon to tame, just
These horrors that keep screamin my name. âNevermoreâ from
The raven, he sits on the frame of my brain where he plays his
games. The doctors of plagues Injects a syringe of deception into
my reflection, I step in to a life of rejection. No question, Iâve
Answered to the cause of this mess, I need a second to rest cause
I canât catch a breath so instead, ill take a sector of weapons to
Fend off the vectors bringin questionable gestures. My cortex is more
Or less Infected and restless, restin inside a mental obsession thatâs
Reckless and hectic. I need a section of heaven to keep me from
Getting upset when I get breathless, air taken outta my chest by
The illness Iâm blessed with. A definite mess when it sets in.
And with this sickness, comes cold stillness. I numb myself so I cant
Feel this screwed in my temple, nailed in my mental
State of mind when I pick up a pencil, hammerin bars
With a flow from no stencils, draw my own picture which can
get kind of wicked, twisted into a frenzy of
Sentences with sentiments filled with torturous
Instruments, forget this, I canât remember the last time
My heart was warmer than December, coldness
Swarmin my innards, makin me shiver from my chest
To my liver. Iâm chillin with lizards and worms that wanna
Have me for dinner. Dead bodies around me, the victims of
Killers. Built up pain, Iâm takin in pills, filled with images
Of getting me killed.

Carbohydrates at dinner?

AFROTC1217

I'm currently training for Air Force ROTC. I get up six early mornings a week to run anywhere from 1.5-4 miles, and do weight training (abs, back, and arms) every other day. If I'd like to get a six pack during training, is it safe to eat carbs at dinner? I've tried to limit them as much as possible during dinner this past week, but it seems to me like I might be doing something wrong. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Answer
Having six pack abs is each man's dream but the dream is tough to turn to reality unless you have got a powerful can and are adequately motivated to realize your ambition. that the answer to the question: a way to get six pack abs is simple to answer - it lies within you and your determination.

However tough it'd be, it should be said that obtaining six pack abs is not utterly not possible, provided you keep a copy your nutritional intake with the correct types of six pack abs workouts. Given below could be a simple and generalized guide that must be followed diligently for a minimum 3 months to induce visible results:

The right nutrition: this is often maybe the most necessary a part of obtaining started with your program on a way to get six pack abs. you might have the best wanting abs but if it is layered with fat, it'd hardly be visible. after you are seeking answers to a way to get six pack abs, this might be an excellent deterrent.

The counseled diet is to interrupt your daily food intake into 5 or six smaller meals rather than 3 huge meals. utterly do away with foods that create that layer of fat on your abs like white bread, pasta, soda, candy, dessert, fast food, hydrogenated oils and sugars. Switch to healthier foods like oatmeal, whole grain breads, nuts, recent fruits, vegetables, eggs, chicken, fish, protein, inexperienced tea and take many water. Though it is natural to be swayed by temptation, but your strong can would return a lot into play throughout this change over of eating habits if you want to induce six pack abs.

The essential exercises that belong to the six pack abs workout package ought to include
cardio, weight lifting in addition as specific abdominal exercises. The six pack abs workout ought to be done a minimum of four times every week. while walking, running, cycling, swimming etc all belong to the cardio work out schedule, the trick is to do them in 'bursts'.

For instance, if you walk for a second, then run for concerning 15 minutes and you'll repeat this ten times. this sort of cardio workout ought to be done twice every week. Weightlifting is very important to be included in the six pack abs workout program. attempt to do that for 30 to forty five minutes, twice every week. This workout schedule ought to be combined with specific ab exercises to form the six pack abs workout complete.

You might have heard that all six pack abs workouts involve crunches and sit ups. but there are some other specific exercises, that if done consistently may result in the desired effect. Here are some simple points to remember while you're that specialize in six pack abs workouts:

- no matter what type of abs workouts you do keep in mind to do them in rotation for a minimum of thrice every week. it is necessary to remember not to over do that however abundant you might be motivated. each of those sessions shouldn't be more than 20 minutes which suggests that you are devoting concerning an hour every week exclusively for your abs workouts.

- throughout each of those 3 or four sessions every week, keep in mind that you do no less than fifteen but less than 20 repetitions per set. this implies that in the 20-minute abs work out session, you must attempt to include sets of fifteen or 20 repetitions. Take it straightforward while you're doing the six pack abs workouts, otherwise you run the danger of pulling muscle, etc.

- Last but never the smallest amount necessary point to remember in your six pack abs workouts is that you ought to never over do any exercise albeit you have got the requisite energy for doing it. it is necessary for you to grasp that to induce six pack abs it takes a little time and you can not achieve this in an exceedingly hurry, however hard you are trying.

Help with dinner!?

I have a Roast....I would like to make something for dinner.
I know the Usual...Taters and Carrots
But can someone give a recipe other than the usual?
Please and Thank You

Answer
Ingredients:

Roast
Steak Seasoning
1 Large Onion
1 pack McCormick beef gravy packet
Beef broth
Oil

cut the roast in slices. Season both sides with steak seasoning by mccormick (or it doesn't matter what kind of steak seasoning you use). In a large skillet, heat 1 1/2 tbs of oil. Place the roast slices in and cook on both sides for 5 minutes. Set aside and cover with foil.

Cut one large onion in think slices. Add a little more oil to the skillet. Cook the sliced onion until caramelized and transculent.

Add the the packet of gravy to the skillet. Add however much water it calls for (except replace it with the beef broth if that makes since at all). Mix it well with the onions until soupy looking. Add the roast slices. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes.

Serve with garlic bread and a bed of salad.

*Everyone keeps saying crockpot roast, well I gave you something different. And it's faster!*

i am hosting a backwards dinner on saturday any ideas?

Jill Swans

Starting with dessert then entree then appetitzers

Answer
Hi Jill - what a fun dinner idea! This dinner menu is on the gourmet side. Hopefully you are adventurous.

You do need a light desert.

Grilled pineapple with a dollop of pineapple sorbet and fresh mint. Get your pineapple now. It is nearly impossible to find ripe pineapple. Buy one with the most golden skin. Keep it on your window sill to continue ripening. The day before = peel, core and slice into 1/2" slices. If you do not have a corer then use a paring knife to core each slice. Refrigerate in a sealed container.

To cook - heat your grill or a heavy skillet. Cook the slices until they have grill marks or just a little char. Turn and drizzle with honey. When the bottom side has grill marks remove to desert plates. Top with pineapple or lime sorbet and a sprig of fresh mint. Serve with a sweet desert wine dry white wine.

For your entre serve Julia Child's Beef Bouguignonne - not difficult but time consuming so make it the day before. Perfect for a winter dinner. Serve in deep, plain white bowls set on plain white plates with buttered, toasted baguette slices or hunks of warm French bread and Caesar salad - make your own Caesar dressing. Serve with a nice red wind - cabernet, merlot or pinot noir.

http://www.tablespoon.com/recipes/julia-childs-beef-bourguignon/cdda3ccc-3623-4363-8095-aaca1a3f8313

My nephew won several cooking competitions with this appetizer. Again do all of the prep work the day before.

Jacob's Gruyere Shrimp

You need large - 12 to 15 count shrimp. Since you are serving this at the end of the meal one per person is fine.

1 strip thin slice bacon per shrimp
Gruyere cheese cut into 1/4" x 1/4" strips the length of the shrimp. 1 strip per shrimp
Jalapeno peppers - cored, seeded and cut into 1/4" strips the length of the shrimp - 1 strip per shrimp

Partially cook the bacon - needs to be partially cooked but not crispy - limp. Drain on paper towels. Lay a slice of cheese and pepper in the center of each shrimp. Wrap each shrimp with a slice of partially cooked bacon. Tuck the ends of the bacon to secure the package You can serve this hot or at room temperature. If you want to serve at room temperature cook the day before. Remove from the refrigerator 2 or 3 hours before guest arrive for room temperature service. Keep it wrapped in plastic wrap until just before guest arrive. If you want it hot then cook just before service ( hope you have help because I hate to be busy cooking instead of visiting with my guest.)

Heat your oven to 350 degrees. Use a sheet pan with a rack. You really need a rack because you do not want your shrimp sitting in bacon grease. Arrange the shrimp on the rack 1" apart.

NOTE: shrimp is delicate and easily over cooked. 30 seconds can make the difference between perfect shrimp and over cocked shrimp. Prepare 3 or 4 extra appetizers to do some test runs. Cooking time will vary depending on your oven and the size of the shrimp. The day before your party cook one shrimp at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. If it is not done cook another one for 12 minutes. The shrimp should be pink through but very moist and tender. If 12 minutes is not enough try another at 13 minutes. Do not re-cook the shrimp - use another one - that is why you prepare extras.

For the party cook your shrimp at 350 for the desired amount of time. Drain on paper towels and serve on a bed of mixed greens. To really kick it up soften pepper jelly in the micro wave and drizzle on the shrimp before serving.

Not quick - requires planning and prep - not difficult - superbly delicious and impressive.

Enjoy and Happy New Year

12 year old hotel party..?

Melonia J

Okay. My daughters are 12. We postponed their birthday party until now. I am thinking about taking them and about 6 girls to an Embassy Suites hotel near a shopping mall. I will provide $10 gift cards to the mall for party favors and if they wish to spend more they may bring extra money. After shopping and a room service dinner, we could "night swim". And I would have snacks handy for around 11:00 pm. I would make all the girls be quiet around 2 am. What are some ideas for invitations, decorations, and snack foods. And we will book a joining suite; I and another mother would sleep in one room and the girls in the other. Sound okay?

Answer
That sounds like a ton of fun! I would have loved something like that. Snack foods for 12 year olds are generally pretty simple, doritos, chips, pretzels, chocolate, you can pack carrots or other fresh veggies if they are healthier eaters.

I am a pretty simple person when it comes to Invitations - I would probably go to Wal-Mart or Walgreens and pick up a pack of the ready-to-print invitations and make them on my computer. Decorations aren't really all that necessary in a setting like that - maybe some balloons and confetti deocorating the dressers.
