what can I do to fix-up my beach house? The rental next to me is almost the same but it rents for more week?

cheezelord

Here is the link to the photos http://www.joelambjr.com/rental/imgview.html?ID=70&UN=%23+074+Sea+Glass&IT=R

we were thinking of redoing it with a tiki theme or like a jimmy buffet theme. Any suggestions. We are going to be tight this year, but we know we need to invest in it. Any other suggestions? I really want to stick out in the new rental book. Less the $5,000 please. Its going on credit. Vacation rentals have been slow due to the economy.

Answer
You have a beautiful, very large unit!
Kitchen/Dining room: has too many hard edges and is very leggy with all of the chairs & stools. I reccommend softening the look by adding some fabric and texture which will also add some color. Try draping a throw on the table or a table runner. Layer some dinnerware with bamboo chargers, dinner plates and bowls. Add some glasses and a tall centerpiece. I would even try removing a leaf and storing some of those chairs, if you could. Maybe set it for six and show off the square footage.

Family room: Centering your largest piece (sofa) at the fireplace is good. Try using the matching chairs opposite the love seat to make a grouping and add a rug large enough to have the front legs on the rug to anchor the room. It doesn't matter which side you place the love seat on. Then try placing the sofa table behind one of the pieces. It does appear that you are restricted because I believe you may have a stairway entering the space. Then, try to make a reading nook with the other chair in the corner. You will have to play around with the other table set or just store it. It is a family room first!
I know you must be thinking along the lines of a game table or extra seating. If you can store it, the renters can always bring it to the space. Are you leasing long term or short term?

It would be nice to use it outside on the deck, if it is possible. I dont' know if it is weather resistant.

For the master bedroom (floral) and second bedroom: hang the pictures 6" above the headboard to have a focal point and paint the rooms a warm beige. (Sorry, it is hard without seeing the light in the room).
For the white wicker w/yellow spreads: do the same or paint a pastel blue. Move pictures up a tad, add small vase of greens to the night stand.

Room with green/red spreads: Same thing or a cool green. Remove pictures totally, that are over the bed, add bed shirts to cover the frames. They sell bed risers at bed bath & beyond if you want to try elevating.

Do you need to have two sets of bunks? If not, set up as twins to make the room look larger. I can't imagine renting to accomodate that many people without totally destroying your place!

Pool Room/Sitting Room: Face the sofa towards the pool table and use the end tables accordingly, (not scattered). Remove the pictures near the TV so as not to draw attention to it.

Deck: Add some planters to the railings or some pots of plants to bring color. Try to have a nice seating area.

Play around. Start with your largest piece facing a focal point, bring in next largest pieces to form groups of seating. Add you lighting, trying to form a triangle around the room and lastly accessorize.
A shallow bowl with some beach sand and some tea lights would look nice on the coffee table. When grouping candle sticks, think in threes.
Good luck!

I would like to know my ideal calories for the day.
By August 20th, which is a month i would like to loose 7-15 pounds, or more if thats possible.
Please Help.

Answer
Eat a huge salad at lunch & dinner
I donât care if your lunch is a cheeseburger, French fries, and a pint of ice cream, add to it a big, huge salad and eat that first. Youâll be amazed that you lose weight. The salad can contain anything you like as long as it is only vegetables and they are organic. The salad dressing should be organic olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice, or organic vinegar. If you really want to speed the weight loss process use organic apple cider vinegar. Add some organic sea salt, fresh ground pepper, or some garlic for taste.

Add hot peppers

Anything spicy or hot will increase your metabolism and make you burn fat quicker. Imagine for breakfast having some scrambled eggs, some lamb chops, and some rye toast with organic butter. Smother the eggs with some organic hot salsa and you will simply lose weight faster.

Use organic apple cider
This has some magical property which helps eliminate fat cells from the body. Take a couple of teaspoons before each meal and you will be amazed at how your clothes will become bigger in no time.

Fast
This should be number one, but for most people this is the hardest. Going on a proper juice fast for 21 days will completely detoxify your body, flush fat cells, and reset your bodyâs weight set point. It is one of the fastest ways to lose weight, and one of the most effective ways to change the bodyâs set point so that you will not gain the weight back. This should be done under supervision depending upon your medical condition. The best book I know is The Miracle of Juice Fasting.

Take a multi vitamin

Organic vitamins are available, go to your health food store or do a Google search for organic multi vitamins.

Cheat whenever you want

You want ice cream, cookies, cakes, chocolate, French fries, pizza, potato chips? Donât deprive yourself. Itâs better to eat something without guilt than not eat something and feel bad about it.

From best to worst it looks like this: You are offered a piece of chocolate cake; you look at it and decide that youâre full and wouldnât really enjoy it so it does not look that appealing to you. You politely say no thanks and feel great about your choice. You feel no depravation. This is ideal.

Next would be: You are offered the chocolate cake and you decide that you want it even though you are trying to lose weight your desire for the cake is very high. You say yes and eat the cake with happiness and glee. You enjoy and savor every bite. Youâre amazed at how wonderful it tastes. You are happy that you are experiencing these incredible, pleasurable sensations of this delicious cake. This is not ideal, but it is second best.

Next would be: You are offered the chocolate cake and you struggle with the decision. You know you are on a diet, but you canât help but imagine how wonderful this cake would taste. Inside the voice says nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. You struggle some more, you really want the cake, but you also want to stick to your diet. You decide to be strong and even though would love to be eating that cake you say no. This is bad. It is better to eat the cake and enjoy it, than not eat the cake and be stressed out over it.

The interesting statistics prove that eating food without guilt keeps you thin. Not eating food and being stressed about it can make you fat. Eating food and feeling guilty and bad about it makes you obese.

Lastly: You are offered the chocolate cake, and you really want it. But you know youâre on a diet and you struggle with the decision whether to indulge or be strong. You feel weak and become upset with yourself because the desire for the cake becomes overwhelming. You breakdown and eat the cake knowing full well that you shouldnât. You feel guilty and bad about yourself. This is the absolute worst. Remember, if you choose to absolutely enjoy it and be happy. Do not feel guilty or bad about it.

Ideally, if you are going to cheat and want to eat cookies, cakes, ice cream, potato chips, etc., do not buy these products from the supermarket. Go to a health food store and buy the natural organic counter-part. Example: If you like ice cream, you can find all-natural organic ice cream in the health food store. If you want chocolate chip cookies you can find them in the health food store. The advantage is if you read the ingredient list and choose wisely, you can enjoy these delicious treats without all the processing and chemicals that make you fat.

weight loss question! Help me,please!?

Angel

My doctor was talking to me about a weight loss plan. He said I should eat a balanced dinner every night. He suggested 4 oz. meat and 2 cups steamed veggies. I don't like to eat meat every night,so what are some more healthy dinners that will have similar effect? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Answer
hope this helps

Weight loss tip 1: Decide how much weight you need to lose - Most people start their weight loss journey by claiming to be xyz kilos overweight. This isn't a healthy way to project or aim for weight loss. Calculate your desired weight against your height by using reliable methods like the BMI, and set a healthy weight loss target. This is often half the battle won.

Weight loss tip 2: Time management - This is quite often overlooked. Decide which part of your day will be dedicated to exercise, when in the week you will stock up on groceries, and when you will do the cooking - all within your current work and home life routine. If you don't do this now, your days will be rushed and unplanned, and you won't be able to sustain your weight loss efforts.

Weight loss tip 3: Stock your kitchen - Keep your house well-stocked with fruits, vegetables, healthy meats, grains, cereals, spices, and flavourers. Follow our tricks to healthy cooking, cooking vegetables for the week, and low-fat cooking posts to understand how best you can stock your kitchen with healthy and delicious ingredients. All of this will go into helping the next step - cooking healthy meals at home.

Weight loss tip 4: Eat healthy homecooked meals - Whether it's you who's cooking, a family member, or house help, ensure that every one practises healthy cooking methods, and ingredients. Ask any person who's lost weight the healthy way, and you will always hear about how healthy homecooked meals were a big reason behind it. Use less oil, low salt, fresh produce, and you'll start seeing results in no time.

Weight loss tip 5 : Start a cardio + weights workout - A healthy weight loss programme is incomplete without a good exercise routine, and weight training mixed with cardio is the best way to lose weight. Of course, variations and forms exist, but any workout that stresses on muscle tone and increased heart rate will always help you lose weight and keep it off. You can either start a home workout today, or rely on gyms for fitness training.

Weight loss tip 6: Alter your snacking habits . Set those French fries aside, skip that aerated drink, and ban those unhealthy deep fried samosas. Explore the healthy snack world and you will find several appetisers, party snacks, movie snacks and meal accompaniments that'll satisfy every craving of yours.

Weight loss tip 7: Have at least one active hobby - It isn't sufficient to rely on just 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity per day. Moving from bed to office chair, and back to bed, isn't a healthy way to live. Buy a motion sensor gaming console that lets you enjoy social games with friends and family, plan weekend trips, clean your house once a week, dance, play sports, the list is endless. Get out of the coffee shop and dining table rut, and you'll have fun along with the healthy weight loss

Weight loss tip 9: Drink plenty of water - You've known that your body relies heavily on water for all important bodily functions, and yet you skimp on drinking adequate quantities of water every day. Well, it's time to stop that. Check out some exciting ways to make water interesting and you'll be packing it away in no time. Do not forget to carry a water bottle to your workout, and take a few sips after every 2-3 minutes of exercise.

Weight loss tip 10: Plan healthy vacations - Why go all the way with healthy weight loss, when one tiny vacation will just come along and topple it all? Healthy vacations aren't impossible. Take a look at how you can eat smart on a holiday, and then at bodyweight workouts that you can carry with you wherever you go, to understand how to holiday right. Above all, remember that these are lifelong habits that'll help you stay fit forever and not short term weight loss quickfixes

good luck.

What is Silver service dining and can you describe how it is?

Charmaine

I am a trainee chef and would like to know what exactly service service dining is. I get different answers from different people

Answer
Silver service is the formal setting as noted by the previous answer. I would add that there is more to the story:

You want your patrons to feel that everything that appears at the table is created by magic exactly as they desire.

The handling of eating utensils and wine glasses is very important. Instead of the usual putting out of all the utensils that will be used during the service, the place is set for the first course or Amuse Bouche only. Then after each course is cleared, a service person sets each place with exactly what is required for the next course based on the patron's order. It progresses this way through the dinner service.

It is similar for wine glasses. Only deliver wine glasses to the table based on the wine that has been ordered and the desire of each patron to consume the wine. Each patron should be offered, but not forced to take a glass. Also, if a new bottle of wine is ordered, new glasses should be delivered to the table. It is a nice touch to have varietal-specific wine glasses like Riedel.

Good luck with your training!

How will you set the table for individual cover?

what are the different classification of table appointments?

Answer
It is better if you apply Informal table setting or Russian Table Setting if you want an elegant service, You have to serve the guest as if like a Table of Contents you have to serve first water, then food then, dessert. just like the order of the daily meal of a person. but you have to be elegant...
Informal settings generally have fewer utensils and dishes but use a stereotyped layout based on more formal settings. Utensils are arranged in the order and the way a person will use them. Usually in Western culture, that means that the forks, bread plate, spreader, and napkin are to the left, while knives, spoons, drinkware, cups, and saucers are to the right, although the left-right order is reversed in a minority of countries. Formally, in Europe, Mexico, Argentina and Philippines, the cup and saucer will not be placed on the table until the very end of the meal.

[edit] Formal

A formal table settingUtensils are placed about one inch from the edge of the table, each one lining up at the base with the one next to it. Utensils on the outermost position are used first (for example, a salad fork and a soup spoon, then the dinner fork and the dinner knife). The blade of the knife must face toward the plate. The glasses are positioned about an inch from the knives, also in the order of use: white wine, red wine, dessert wine, and water tumbler.

Formal dinner The most formal dinner is served from the kitchen. When the meal is served, in addition to the place plate at each setting there is the roll, the napkin, and the following cutlery/silver: knives, to the rightânever more than threeâand forks to the left, also never more than three. Coffee is served demitasse and spoons are placed on the saucer to the right of each handle. The dessert spoon, to the right, and dessert fork, to the left, are placed on dessert plates when brought to the table. The utensils at a formal dinner must be sterling silver. Serving dishes and utensils are not placed on the table for a formal dinner. [1] The only exception to these general rules is the protocol followed at the Spanish royal court, which was also adopted by the Habsburg court: accordingly all utensils were placed on the right.

At a less formal dinner, not served from the kitchen, the dessert fork and spoon can be set above the plate, fork pointing right, to match the other forks, spoon pointing left.

In Europe, if many courses are to be served, the table is only laid for soup, fish, and meat. The pudding spoon and fork and the savoury knife and fork are then placed on the table as required [2]

[edit] Informal
At an informal setting, fewer utensils are used and serving dishes are placed on the table. Sometimes the cup and saucer are placed on the right side of the spoon, about four inches from the edge of the table. Often, in less formal settings, the napkin and/or cutlery may be held together in a single bundle by a napkin ring. However, such objects as napkin rings are very rare in the United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico, or Italy.

How does my 12 year old daughter raise money?

Zombie_Eat

She has always been complaing on how she has no money, so i told her get a job. What's some like things she should do? No necessarily a job but something that will earn money.

Answer
Allowance for doing chores/extra chores. Helping elderly neighbors with yard work, house cleaning, taking out their trash. Mother's helper or babysitter (I wouldn't hire a 12 year old to babysit, but a mother's helper can keep the kids busy while mom cleans). She could make and sell jewelry (Michael's has really nice beads, but they are expensive).

She could have a vegetable stand, either from a garden she grows or make a deal with a local farmer to buy and resell their produce. My brothers and sisters and I bought corn and other vegetables from a friends farm at a discounted rate and had our own vegetable stand when we were younger (although idk if the health dept. would stop you now). Vegetable stands run by kids can make a lot of money, if you live on a main road or have a close friend or relative that does you would get much more business.

You could do a mother daughter friday night babysitting service-like a parents night out. Get a group of kids to come over for crafts (Michael's has $1 crafts, or cheap kids for multiple kids), do a movie, play a game, make it like a party for the kids and charge like $5 per kid for 2-3 hours.

Depending on your states rules, she may be old enough to get a paper route, many smaller/community papers have young teens doing paper routes. She could stuff and bag the papers and you two could take a walk together to distribute (she can go alone if you feel comfortable).

You could put flyer in your local church or senior citizen community center for meals cooked and delivered (you could have like a set menu for each day of the week, do dinners M-F and lunch and dinner Sat, Sun- same meal for both lunch and dinner-some older people each their 'dinner' at noon anyway), or even just do set days. Have orders due by like 5 pm the day before and you can cook together and deliver together. Give deals if the person is ordering two meals instead of one. Find a way to make the price look appealing so people will want to order a home cooked meal and not have to worry about cooking/cleaning. Let her keep the profit after your grocery bill is paid. Maybe the first weeks profit can go to paying off old bills and having a 'fund' to purchase new supplies with so she won't have to borrow from you, she can just use the money she already has and replace it with next weeks earnings.

Party ideas for 12-13 years old girls!help!?

Q. Ok Im going to have a party in may, I want my friends to have a really fun time. Its up to 2pm-7pm and it just a party. Not a birthday or a slumber party.Just a party. So far my ideas are prank calling, going outside to get slushies and going down hills with our bike. Bob the Apple or whatever its called.I dont want to pay alot for the party just 30$ I want topay. Please give me ideas fun ideas!!!

Answer
I'm turning 13 on May 31st and I'm probably gonna do the salon thing listed below. Have lots of fun! Here are some ideas.

Surprise for the birthday guests:
Birthday person's parent goes to each house to pick up the guest and places a black cloth around their eyes and led to the vehicle.
From there the parent drives to a planned party area such as a camp, etc. While blindfolded they are asked to act like a chicken, moo like a cow and other things...Use your imagination. This should be videotaped.

If camping is planned, the tents and food should all be set up.
Next day go went back to the birthday person's house and watched the home movie of all of the events...How embarrassing!!!

Girl Friend Party:
(a special day for your friends' birthday day)
Blindfolded her and take her to get her haircut pay for that. Next pick up some videos and put the blindfold on her again. When you get to your destination (a made up salon in your house or a friends) take off the blindfold. Decorate the area like a salon...you will need to make signs, get streamers, and put accessories (make-up, hair products, facial products, nail products) on display.

Have some new makeup for you girl friend and do her nails, make-up, and hair and if possible pick out an outfit for her to wear. She never know what was happening next.

When you're done and have watched a movie, blindfolded her again and take her out to dinner with your male friends.

Titanic Party:
A formal affair. For girls let let them dress together and make each other up.
Have servers and a Captain present for an elegant dinner. Find young musical entertainers to provide the background music.
After dinner have an adult can man the black-jack and roulette tables.
Hire a Caricaturist to draw the guests (this will be their party favor).

Fortune Telling Party:
Hire a palm reader or have an adult dress like a gypsy and have their palms read. Also use tarot cards to learn to tell fortunes. Serve fortune cookies. For party favors give bangles, moon and star items.

Write Horoscopes: pass out pencils and paper to each guest. The "astrologer" asks them to write various items, the paper is passed to each player AFTER each item is written. Turn the paper down, so no one can read what is above. When completed, the last person signs their name to the bottom. They are then turned in and read using the 'story.' See link at horoscopes to get more information.

Mall Fun:
Scavenger Hunt:
Prepare the night before by going to the mall to find or think of things for the hunt. i.e.: number of stairs, escalators, things in shop windows, lost receipt, etc. The day of the party give each team a list of the items and within a specified amount of time see who comes up with the correct answers/items.
Party Favor / Game: Give each person $5.00 and see how many items they can purchase in a limited amount of time.
Hit the pizza parlor (or other) afterwards.

Regression Party:
Party like a 4 or 5 year old. Play traditional party games like pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, hot potato, drop the clothes pin in the can, scooping cotton balls from one bowl to another-blindfolded., etc.

Limo Romp:
Hire a limousine. Pick up the party goers and take them to a restaurant for dinner. Best best would be an "50's Diner" someplace were they can play goofy games. Make sure the limo is stocked with soft drinks, music, etc.

Hotel Party:
Get a two bedroom hotel room. One for the kids and one for the parents. Make sure it has all the amenities like pool and game room. Bring lots of popcorn, sodas, videos, etc (or if you prefer room service). Let the maids clean up the mess the next day.

Clothes Exchange and Redo:
Good for girls of roughly the same size, or a couple sizes. have everyone go thru closets at home and find clothes they don't want or that don't fit, clothes, purses, bags, shoes, socks, anything...Buy bits of ribbons, buttons, fabric, zippers, patches and sewing supplies. when everyone gets to the party, make piles of clothes that are around the same size. Then everyone can sew on the ribbons, iron on patches-make the clothes look different, maybe even buy some tie-dye, a kit should be around $20.00. Then swap clothes.

Beauty Salon:
Take the girls to a beauty salon to have their hair and nails done. Or do up their hair and nails at home in conjunction with a slumber party. For an activity, decorate pillow cases. Purchase one plain white case for each girl.

Disco Party:
Rent a disco ball, strobe light and get together some 70's movies. Have your friends come dressed for disco. Serve TAB

Games & Activties:
Are the above just a bit much? How about a regular, stay at home, do it yourselfer. Here are a few games and activities.
Murder:
Prepare slips of paper, enough for each player. All will be blank except two. One will be marked "Murderer" and the other "Detective". Let the play

Has anyone had dinner on the beach at Casa Marina Key West?

Cynthia

I am planning a reception dinner for 20 guest in Key West. The Casa Marina in Key West offers a "Toes in the Sand" dinner where they set you up and serve you on the Beach. They have oil lanterns on tables and the nearby trees are lit for a soft glow. I am starting to panic because of all the negative reviews about the rooms and service at Casa Marina. I have read great things about their large indoor Wedding and Receptions. However, I am dealing with the Sun Sun Grill and Bar manager. Not the staff that has been raved about for the larger more expensive receptions.

If anyone has personally experienced the "Toes in the Sand" Dinner and can give me some insight I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer
Well, if it's any consolation, for every bad review, there are a hundred people that had a great time and didn't even think about leaving a review.

Reviews on urban decay chill?

microunive

I'm considering to buy Urban Decay Chill Setting Spray for my dry skin. Is it worth it? What does it do for your skin/makeup? Thanks! :)

Answer
I have the "All Nighter" formula and I was pleasantly surprised! I was skeptical at first but I tried it out the day of my sister's graduation (which included being in a stuffy auditorium setting, outside in the heat, and out to dinner).

My main concern was my concealer staying put. I love the formula of my concealer and how it applies/covers but the staying power isn't always the best. The setting spray did the job! My concealer held up much better than without it - it obviously wasn't absolutely perfect but it really helped a lot.

I'd like to try the "Chill" as I've heard it provides the lasting power of your make up and gives a cooling and hydrating effect. I'm really interested since I have such dry skin.

Good luck (:

How would I value and sell an old dinner service?

sammimac

I have a 6 place setting Johnson bros snow white dinner service that is not in use, I am looking to sell it but have no idea who to approach and how to know that I am getting a good deal... Has anyone sold a dinner service like this before and could give me an idea of an asking price or does anyone know how to go about selling it?
Thanks

Answer
Selling an establishment is always a challenging move to make. I would suggest you first do market research and industry research. That is, find out about the demographics the dinner service served, and find out if there are competitors (within a 5-mile radius) who may present problems to your sale of the property.

1 cup half and half
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons snipped fresh parsley

1.Bring water to a boil in (8-qt.) Stockpot. Meanwhile, cut bacon into 1/2-inch pieces using Santoku Knife. Cook bacon in (12-in.) Skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon from Skillet; drain on paper towels. Drain grease from Skillet (do not wipe out).
2.Dice onion using Chefâs Knife. Thinly slice garlic using Ultimate Mandoline fitted with thin slicing blade. Coarsely chop bell pepper using Food Chopper. Coarsely grate cheese using Deluxe Cheese Grater; set aside. Add onion, garlic and bell pepper to Skillet. Cook over medium heat 2-3 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Remove Skillet from heat; set aside.
3.Meanwhile, cook pasta according to package directions (see Cookâs Tip). Add peas to Stockpot; carefully drain pasta and peas using Drainer. Add pasta and peas to Skillet. Add bacon, cheese, chicken, half and half, black pepper and salt; toss well to coat. Cook and stir over medium heat until sauce is slightly thickened and mixture is hot. Sprinkle with parsley; serve immediately.
Cook's Tip: A simple way to adjust the consistency of pasta sauce that is too thick is to remove about 1 cup of pasta cooking water using the Nylon Ladle before draining the pasta. Stir a small amount into the sauce as needed.

Smoked Provolone cheese is smoked over applewood for a full-bodied, smoky flavor. Plain Provolone cheese can be substituted for the smoked Provolone cheese, if desired.

Need a recipe for a two person dinner for my fiance?

bunnigirl

something tasty, not too hard to make and something a man would like. My fiance is a man btw. any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
I'll give you 3 recipes:

1. CREOLE FISH SOUP:

Ingredients

1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 bay leaves
1 (16 ounce) package frozen mixed vegetables
1 pound fresh or frozen cod, cut into 3/4-inch pieces
Directions

In a soup kettle, combine the first eight ingredients; cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add vegetables; cover and simmer for 10 minutes. Add fish; cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork. Discard the bay leaves.

2. CHICKEN RICE SKILLET:

Ingredients

4 (4 ounce) boneless skinless chicken breast halves
2 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
2 celery ribs, chopped
4 green onions, thinly sliced
1/2 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/2 cup chopped sweet yellow pepper
2 cups frozen green beans, thawed
1 (4.5 ounce) jar sliced mushrooms, drained
1 (14.5 ounce) can chicken broth
1/4 cup water
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon lemon-pepper seasoning
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups uncooked instant rice
Directions

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown chicken in oil for about 4 minutes on each side or until almost tender. Add celery, onions and peppers; cook until vegetables are crisp-tender. Stir in the beans and mushrooms; cook until chicken juices run clear.
Stir in the broth, water and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Stir in rice; cover and remove from the heat. Let stand for 5 minutes or until rice is tender; fluff rice with a fork.

3. GINGER'S SHRIMP AND GRITS:

Ingredients

3 1/2 cups skim milk
2 teaspoons sea salt
1 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup stone-ground white grits
1 1/2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons bottled hot pepper sauce

1/2 cup olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 tablespoons garlic, chopped
2 pounds shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 (10 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with green chile peppers, drained
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
Directions

Pour the milk into a large saucepan with the salt, cayenne pepper, and black pepper, and bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Sprinkle in the grits, cover, and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
Uncover the grits, and add 1 1/2 cups of shredded Cheddar cheese and the hot pepper sauce, beating the mixture with a spoon until the cheese melts and the mixture is smooth. Cover the cheese grits and set them aside to firm up.
Heat the olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat, and cook and stir the onion and garlic for about 5 minutes, until the onion is translucent. Add the shrimp, and toss them in the hot oil for about 3 minutes, until the shrimp just turn pink and opaque. Stir in the garlic powder and diced tomatoes with chile peppers, and set the shrimp mixture aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and spray a 7x11-inch baking dish with cooking spray. Place about 1 cup of shrimp mixture in the bottom of the dish, followed by 1 cup of cheese grits in a layer. Continue layering shrimp and grits, and top the final layer with 1 cup Cheddar cheese.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, until the cheese topping is bubbling and beginning to brown. Let the casserole set for about 10 minutes before serving.

Update: Does he still has feelings for me?

YourSaucy

I know the reason he wanted to end thing with me because he thought he couldn't make me happy and that I didn't appreciate what he offered. When I told him that I didn't feel butterflies in my stomach in which he tried so hard to please me with gift-flower/expensive dinners/great times and efforts, he stomped out and asked for a break and ended thing with me a month later, I agreed with the break up and tried to move on even I'm dying inside. He probably got hurt when he thought he can't make me happy/desire him. He was wrong about that. I did and I still do. He should know a good relationship takes time to develop true feelings, especially for women

Anyway, thing happens for a reason, I stopped all contact, no begging/pleading/convincing and said to him that I love to fill him in but in the future, we both need some space right now, I need to get over him first then we can be friends as he wanted when I ready

Who knows what the future hold!!, I do believe he was honest about his feelings for me at the time about the way he and I felt at the time that we both fit in like a puzzle in most level, got along so well and think alike on most things, laugh and had great times together, never fight, had amazing compatible sex and he's also admitted that we made for each other, that I made him all happy inside out and he was glad to found me and we still can't make it, he said because he started to feel uneasy and his dream forever women who is one is very easy going /uncomplicated/ not so demanding!!!!. If we get along so well and think alike in most things then why the hell he viewed me as the character above?, please tell me that he didn't know what he talking about!!

His reason for a break up didn't make any sense but polls and relationship studies show varied "reasons" men give are often because they have problems sorting out their own feelings...and have trouble putting their feelings into words,

I'm still whining because it was one the best relationships that I ever had!, can you tell but I'm strong enough to let him go though before he ever wants to come back, one thing for sure if we had a second chance, our relatiosnhip will be much stronger. I hope he still think of me from time to time since we had good acquaintance and a lot of fun together. What should I do guys beside giving us some space?

Update: I'm very sorry that I hurt him even he didn't talk about it. I would be devastated if he told me the same thing regardless of being honest about our feelings or not. He got serious 3 weeks into our relatiosnhip, planned future, said his home is my future resident, planned send his and mine kids to the same college, planned a charity with our both name, took my side, we always held hands and PDA in public, he always spooned me at the dinners, had to sit next to me, took me to a massage when I was feeling down, money is not the issue when it came to pleasing me, we met in Dec 3 and by Dec 23 he sent me 23 Red and Pink Roses with it's own Versace vase that he bought separated plus Victoria Secrets pajama plus a set of panties with extra panties to make sure it fit me!! , best sex, he said he really likes the way I look i.e. classy and everything about me. So, now, girls tell me if that wouldn't scared you way?, I was so much flattered but would you just jump in to a relatiosnhip that is so brand new but too good to be true?, I always put my guard up even though I never left, I slowly let him in since we went out on the town and stayed out at local coffee shop or bar that opens late to talk or went to the movies until midnight without sex ( he has money so go to hotel is not a problem but he never suggested that and said we still have fun doesn't matter what we do), I put my guard down when he held me in his arms and allowed me to be myself crying when I talked about my sister and he made me feel that he will be there no matter what even when I wasn't at my best ( I thought she never cared for me or protected me when our father passed away when I was 1 year old), bad times bring people closer in my book and that felt good to cry in his arms. I sent him Beyonce song " Halo" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnVUHWCynig" to let him know how I feel when I asked him help me to understand why we are not talking, then he sent me a email and ended. Do you think after he done all those for me in the beginning of our rela., does he still has the same feelings for me?, do we have another chance?, what should I do guys?, I will let him cool down for a month or so then will go from there. I want him back, we're 50s, have teenagers kids, our path has been crossed 3 times, he is White and I'm an Asian woman. Plz help me how to have a second chance with him to make him happy and I will never take him for granted. Is it okay to contact him/call in another 3 weeks?. Thanks guys. An appreciate woman

Answer
You are either in or you are out...make up your mind! You aren't a teenager anymore.

Do gifts tell you something about how people value you?

pachl@sbcg

The problem I perceive having is this: I feel like getting bad gifts (ones that show no imagination, tacky gifts, cheap gifts) are a reflection of peoples' low regard for me.

I don't know if that is true or not.

I am living in Prague, Czech Republic. Most of my friends are younger than me, and don't make as much money. Throughout the year, I frequently invite them out to dinner, or get them small things without wanting nor expecting anything in return.

I realize many people may be short on money. Due to the financial crisis, I have to be very careful myself. I have cut back tremendously. I'll often even walk rather than spend the $1 it costs to ride the tram.

But this Christmas, I was really let down. Should I feel this way, or is it likely that my friends simply don't put much emphasis on gift giving? When I get a real "dud" of a gift, I feel like it's a slap in the face. But I'm not speaking of the cost of the gift, but rather if it's a good gift at all. For example, I also go to the University here, and a girl in my class gave me a hand-made Christmas card. I still have it on my refrigerator. I really value it because it was so thoughtful.

I gave one friend JBL speakers for Iphone and Ipod use. In return I got an ice cream scoop. I'm only slightly disappointed here, because the ice cream scoop is actually quite nice. And this gift is useful, so it shows real thought.

I gave a Versace shirt to another friend. He gave me a cheap, tacky ceramic piggy bank.

For my sister, I found a perfect gift. She absolutely loved it. She called me on Christmas Eve to tell me how perfect it was and how she's always astounded how good my taste is. In the next breath she tells me she didn't get around to sending me anything until just that day. What did I get? A delivery straight from Amazon.com: two cheap paperbacks and the same DVD set she gave me last summer (passive-aggressive behavior, or did she just forget?)

Why do I put such emphasis on the gifts I receive? Should I feel slighted when I get bad gifts?
Addition: my sister is probably the worst. She had plenty of money and time. And yet she waited until Christmas Eve to even get on the internet to buy a gift. This is the laziest route possible. I look at the situation and think, "That's all I'm worth to her? Ten minutes on the internet, and even then she gets me nothing imaginative?"

Answer
I received exactly 0 gifts this Christmas. And I'm as happy as can be. Not that I don't like gifts, gifts are great. But never forget that the practice of gift giving is culturally derived. I am from a culture that is not big on gift giving at Christmas (a practise common in the US, magnified by consumerism to being a multi-billion dollar industry), but we take care of each other all throughout the year.
Gift giving is never a good measure of your value to people simply because there are too many variables.
People may use gifts as a way to avoid taking care of each other, but still stay in the 'close' zone. Other may come from a culture like mine. Some may come from large families where gift giving is common, so they'll send gifts even when they don't value you, other will not be unused to, or feel awkward expressing their appreciation in that way.
Giving and receiving gifts is great. It's a nice bonus. But it's not the cake. Some people around you care, some don't. The best thing you can do it take care of everyone, and give yourself the gift of being a good person.

Where to find cheap dinnerware sets?

Allyson B

I want to get a set of plates and cups that's relatively cheap. I'm not really looking for anything fancy, something really basic would work. I'm just not sure where to look. There is a Walmart, Shopko, Target, Ross, Bed Bath and Beyond, Sears, and a couple other stores. I've looked but I was wonder whether there was anything on any websites for these stores or whether there was another website that I could look on.

What treats do you give your 7 month old?

Proud Momm

My daughter is 7 months old and she has had a bit of an icee, other than that only fruits and veggies for "treats". I don't give her bites of ice cream or candy or anything... but I have friends with babys younger than mine and they give them bites of ice cream, pickles, candy... pretty much whatever the mom is eating the baby gets to taste. I feel like I'm almost neglecting my daughter by not giving her everything I eat, am I being an over protective mom by not giving her a lot, or am i doing ok?
I don't give her juice or anything either, only prune juice when she's constipated... my friends give their kids juice all the time...
Ivy has twin boys-- I'm not obsessing about what my friend feeds her baby, I was just asking if I'm being too over protective or if I'm okay not giving my daughter these things. I realize everyone has a choice on what they feed their kids, I was more just wondering if it was the "norm" for babys to get those kinds of "treats" and if my daughter is going to hate me for not giving them to her.

Answer
I plan not to eat junk in front of my kids as they get older. I decided not to eat things I wouldn't want to share with them. For now they are more limited in what they can eat, and they don't realize I am only sharing some of my food with them.

They crawled over while hubbie and I were eating dinner tonight so I gave them some of our food. Summer Squash and some of the ground beef from my hamburger.

Some people are going to give their kids junk food. Some of those kids are going to be at a perfect weight, active and healthy. But feeding your children only healthy foods makes it more likely they will be at a good weight and healthy themselves. But feeding children only healthy food is a CHALLENGE, and it gets to be more so as they get older.

You will need to establish rules for eating for your household, and not everyone is going to have those same rules. Some people will be stricter than you, some more lenient. Judging others is a waste of time and energy on this.

Some people are only going to give their kids organic vegan local grown foods, and some are going to give their kids McD's and candy for every meal. And of course there is everything in between to.

I don't get why your obsessed with what your friend feeds her child. Unless it is booze and cigarettes, it is a very acceptable choice.

It also isn't just about what you offer your child to eat. A lot of what determines healthy eating habits is modeling eating. Not only what you eat in front of a child but how much influences their eating behaviours. And denying them any treats can also negatively affect them. There is no set rule book on feeding children. Some kids grow up drinking tons of juice very young and are very healthy, likely because their parents model healthy eating and lifestyle choices.

In our family we don't give our 7 month old twins ice cream, pickles and candy, but we give them meat, cereal, organic fruits and veggies. I eat healthy in front of them, and so I feel okay giving them some of my food. Studies show that children will most likely end up eating what and how eating behaviour is modeled, and they know it starts extremely early. Your 7 month old may already be picking her future food preferences and how much she is going to eat by watching you right now.

My personal suggestion would be to only eat healthy foods in front of your child, and then she can have some of what you eat. At 7 months maybe it doesn't matter, but it will very soon.

I just ate mcdonalds for breakfast & im on a diet :( ?

Kelly

Ive been on a diet for about a month now & ive lost alot of weight ! Im really proud of myself but right now im on vacation & ive tryed to keep my diet but the only food at the hotel is fattening ! yesterday I ate half a burger with fries which I shared with my mom, and then went to the gym after cause I felt really guilty and I was hungry !! I didntt eat anything else for the rest of the day. This morning , is the day we go back home so first I ate an apple then my family drove into mcdonalds which I couldnt do anything about .. & I told them I wasnt hungry but I really was , and they told me its a long drive and I needed to eat something so I shared some breakfast :( ive broje my diet twice already !! I feel so guilty and horribke I keep touching my belly and thinking im gunna get as fat as a cow . when I get home im gunna exercise for sure , I told my mom how I feel and she says im not gunna gain weight and to enjoy my vacation . Is she right ? I dk I hate myself so much right now :/

Answer
Hi miss! No worries!!!

I just came back from Miami and it was frustrating how I didn't have much control over what I could eat because the fridge was so small and I didn't have a rental car and I had no choice but to eat what I could get closest to me with the ride that I had. I couldn't have them driving around like crazy since she was preparing for her wedding that week. So I had to eat breakfast from the hotel which was horrible!! There was no fruit!! And I had to eat from Wendy's which was a horrible experience because the cheese in their chili tasted so fake!!!

Breaking your diet twice is better than doing it 365 days a year! You will be fine!

Understand living a healthy lifestyle means you have to be able to adapt to the environment around you at times. Everyday will not be a perfect day. There will be days where you can't eat according to your plans and those days you just need to be aware of your options.

For example, if you ever have to go to Mcdonald's again; McDonalds sells a mini salad for a 1 dollar which you can enjoy with a grilled chicken snack wrap. Or just order their grilled chicken salad and ask for balsamic vinagerette! SO GOOD!

Don't ever starve yourself because that is a good way to set yourself up to lose weight the wrong way and gain it all back easy! Or plateau!

Relax! Don't stress yourself out too much about dieting. I am working on it as well and it's not fun! The stress can work against your results and will make it hard to relax and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Do all you can to enjoy the experience of eating right and exercising and just educate yourself in how to adapt to eating when your out on vacation and on the road.

Fast food is not healthy but they do provide low calorie options so educate yourself on healthier options at your Wendy's, Burger King, McD's, Subway and write them down and store it in your purse the next time you travel so you won't forget! :)

The greatest thing I did in florida was go to Target and by two healthy choice chicken alfredo microwavable meals when others bought chinese food for dinner! See if there is a local supermarket close by and buy a frozen meal if you have access to a microwave or if your on the road go to the deli and buy a roll!

~ Good job so far! and Best of Health to you! ~

China Dinnerware "Service for"?

Jessie

I'm looking in to buying some new China Dinnerware. The thing is I'm not sure on the right "service for" number. I have a rather large family both on my side and with my in-laws. I want to get the right number so that when I have everyone over for the holidays we donât run out. Can anyone help?

Answer
mom says to count the maximum number of guests you expect at one time then add four extra

12 guests + 4 spare = 16

you would order a service for 16 - that way if one ever got broken or you needed a plate to set a cake on you have it

Are you having a reunion dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year. My girlfriend's family is having hot pot?

Sankee

tonight. What other kind of reunion dinner you can have ?

Answer
We are having a Chinese hot pot too tonight. Since its a weekday, its more convenient to buy the raw ingredients, set up a pot of boiling water, make a broth and every one can just cook on the table and eat together. Reunion dinner is all about having the family sitting and eating together. There is no particular rules what kind of reunion dinner you can or cannot have. Some families may have time to cook an elaborate Chinese dinner at home. You can also have it in the restaurants with those expensive stuff like abalone, sharks fin, sea cucumber, roasted ducks/pig, fish etc to bring in the good luck for CNY. You can even have a potluck, each family member brings something to share or you can order pizza, KFC, even tacos or burritos etc. The main and important concept for a CNY reunion dinner, is for all the family members to sit and eat together without fighting or quarrelling. Just like having a thanksgiving dinner to be thankful and that the family is still together for the past years and for more years to come *

If my story is set in a fictional town, can I...?

.....

In my story, I made up my own town. I'm wondering about a few things though, namely using real places. I am wondering especially about using places such fast food restaurants (McDonald's, KFC etc.) and cinemas (such as Village cinemas which are in Australia). Could I use them? Or would it interfere with copyright and stuff?

Thanks!

Answer
As others have stated, yes, you can use brand names in your story as long as you use them as background only and they aren't portrayed negatively. For instance, I wouldn't have someone murdered in the KFC, or say they closed the local McDonald's because of an E. coli outbreak.

Now that you feel comfortable that you can use brand names, I'm not sure that I would. Many many years ago I used to like Dean R. Koontz, and read everything of his that I could find. By overdosing on him, I realized certain things, like most of his protagonists like to down a Dos Equis with dinner. That's a small thing, but when it pops up again and again in your stories, it becomes a distraction.

Don't name drop excessively. After all, these companies aren't paying you.

does anyone know if melacore dishes are microwave safe? i want to buy a set for my daughter to use at college.

sandy c

can they be used in the microwave?

Answer
Hi Sandy,

Yes, they are microwave safe. This is what I read.

Versatile, convenient and durable, this 16-piece set of chip-resistant melacore dishes in a vibrant rainbow of colors makes dining fun. Convenient indoors and great for outdoor barbeques and picnics, this dinnerware set for four is perfect any time a casual meal is in order. Use matched sets or mix things up. California Dreamin' dinnerware comes in red, orange, yellow, green and blue. Adult approved and kid friendly

Being a former college partier myself, i would suggest sending her with dollar store ceramic plates. They were cheap, and I used my plates for a variety of reasons, not just to eat on. I also tended to take better care of them since they were breakable. Just a thought.....=)

how to set the table the way the etiquette did?

t-bone

im not sure if that makes sense
but my project in school is to set the dinner table the proper way aka etiquette way
any advice
or does anyone know where i could find something on how to do it

Answer
The one unbreakable rule for how to set a dinner table is that everything must be geometrically spaced - all places must be at equal distances, and all sterling silver flatware balanced.

Formal Table Setting Etiquette
A: Napkin B: Service Plate
C: Soup bowl on plate D: Bread and butter plate w/ butter knife
E. Water glass F: White wine
G: Red wine H: Fish fork
I: Dinner Fork J: Salad fork
K: Service knife L: Fish knife
M: Soup spoon N: Dessert spoon and cake fork
SILVERWARE

The silverware used at a formal table setting should be sterling silver flatware. It is not necessary that all the sterling silver match, although all forks or all spoons should be of the same pattern. Dessert sterling silver flatware, which is not brought to the table but is brought in with the desert plates, need not match the dinner flatware. Knives and forks should match.
INDIVIDUAL PLACE SETTINGS

The distance between places at the table set must never be so short that guests have no elbow room. About two feet from plate center to plate center is ideal. If the chairs have narrow and low backs, people can sit much closer together. The service plates are first put around the table at equal distances. The sterling silver flatware is placed in the order of its use, with the implements to be used first farthest from the plate. The salad fork is placed next to the left of the plate, then the meat fork. Just to the right of the plate is the salad knife and on the outside is the meat knife. The cutting edge of each toward the plate. Outside the knives are the soup spoon. Dessert spoons and forks are brought in on the dessert plate just before dessert is served.

If bread or rolls are to be served, a butter plate should be used. The butter plate is located above the forks at the left of the place setting. The butter knife is laid across it, slightly diagonally from upper left to lower right, with the sharper edge of the blade toward the edge of the table.

The wineglasses chosen for the formal table setting depend upon the menu, but their table setting arrangement is according to size, so that little ones are not hidden behind large ones. Place them directly above the knives in a straight row slanting downward from the upper left. Generally only one - at the most, two - wines are served, so a water goblet and one (or two) wineglasses are all that are necessary. Frequently wine is not served at all, and iced-tea glasses or simply tumblers for water or mugs for beer are used.

If you plan to serve coffee with the meal, the cup and saucer go to the right of the setting, with the coffee spoon on the right side of the saucer.

Follow the above rules and your formal table setting will always fit proper dinner table etiquette.

Setting a Formal Dinning Table...Do you?

Q. I just wondered how many of you set a fornal dinning table using formal dinner ware?

Answer
To set a formal table really requires a great deal of planning. Like the young lady said, there is no bread and butter plate ... actually no butter either. The dinner roll is placed directly on the table or table cloth to show everything is clean, etc. However, I still do what I call informal formality complete with the damask cloth, bread and butter plates, a charger (service plate) and providing I can afford someone at the time to serve, dinner plates with of the charger, water goblet and depending on what I'm serving a red wine glass and/or white wine glass. Always a full compliment of silverware.Note, if I have a server, a salad plate/appetizer is placed on top with the charger/salad plate being removed before the entree. Then, it goes on & on. I wish I could lay my hands on it but there is an excellent book on proper serving. It will tell you everything needed to know.

I've looked but I was wonder whether there was anything on any websites for these stores or whether there was another website that I could look on.

i would check ebay

What specific products are good ideas for a wedding registry?

para210_99

What things from your wedding registry did you love and still use? Or, what specific products do you wish you had put on your registry (or just gotten as a gift)? (Or, maybe think of the products you've purchased that were the best investments.)

Please be specific (include the brand and product name). For example, "I love my Dyson Ball" instead of "a vacuum cleaner".

Answer
Stirling silver flat-wear: Don't go for "place settings" which involve unnecessary pieces like teaspoons that you still pay full price for. Get a dinner knife and a dinner fork, either a soup spoon or a salad fork (depending on which is your custom for a second course at formal three-course meals) and a dessert spoon. Eight and twelve, the usual number of place settings, are an awkward number to seat at a formal table, so go for six, ten or fourteen place settings instead. Register for them at an established stable high-end store so that they will still be around when you need to add more pieces: Birks if you are in Canada, Tiffany's in the States, Harrod's in the U.K. Choose a not-too-ornate pattern that will survive changing styles: http://www.birks.com/en/featured/Home-Gifts/Sterling-Silver-Flatware/g990/4316

Fine china dinnerware: choose an established china house such as Royal Doulton, Lenox or Portmeiron. Unlike silver, china often comes with a price break if you by a place setting, so it is worth it even if it includes unnecessary pieces. You will need a dinner plate, either a soup or salad plate, and either a dessert plate or a fruit nappy. A general rule is, two out of your three dinner-wear sets -- silver, crystal and china -- should be plain, and one fancy; or two fancy and one plain. Choose a pattern with longevity: http://www.lenox.com/pattern/index.cfm?fuseaction=patDetail&cmCatid=e1242&wid=1&patId=504 is a classic as is http://www.lenox.com/pattern/index.cfm?fuseaction=patDetail&cmCatid=e1242&wid=1&patId=375; but this is a gamble and after a couple of decades www.replacements.com becomes your best friend. The only pattren that seems eternal is Royal doulton's Old Country Roses http://www.royaldoulton.com/GB/Tableware/specials/IOLCOR00840/20+piece+set

Crystal: There's no point in buying anything but Waterford. They maintain their pattern lines in the long term and are (relatively) stable. Choose a traditional pattern like marquis or Lismore http://na.wwrd.com/ae/us/drinkware+bar/wine-glasses/icat/wine_wf/. If you can't bring yourself to pay their prices, you can probably gamble on Crystal D'arques whos crystal is of a much much lower quality, but at least their Longchamps pattern is stable http://www.cristaldarquesparis.co.uk/Templates/FicheProduit.aspx?IDReferenceCommercial=30645. Or get a generic pattern such as cross-and-olive or pinwheel, that is available from many different vendors.

The only appliance I would consider "heirloom quality" and appropriate for a registry is a kitchenaid stand mixer: http://www.kitchenaid.ca/flash.cmd?/#/en/page/home

Answer
Graffiti Party:

Guests show up in plain white t-shirts and everyone is given a marker. Partygoers spend the night doodling and writing messages on each other's shirts.

Graffiti Wall - Set up a graffiti wall on which your guests can write messages to the guest of honor, draw pictures, or sign their names. Just tape white or colored poster board or a sheet of craft paper to a wall, or set it on a table. Have color pencils, markers, and/or stickers available.

Face/Body Painting - buys some Halloween face paints or some color marker pens and makes body tattoo design. (Not a real tattoo!!!)

Party Food:
Pizza - Pizza is always a good choice for a party.

Finger Food/Appetizers

Chips & Dip - Chips and dip are a quick and convenient snack to set out on the tableâa perfect food for your guests to nosh on while they wait for the main course!

Colorful Drinks - For a fun beverage, freeze grape juice or a colorful Kool-Aid in ice cube trays. At the party, serve glasses of ginger ale or a clear, lemon-lime soda, and let your guests drop in some of the colored ice cubes. This will delight in the way that their drinks magically change color!

DJ - Hire a DJ and set up a good stereo system or get a friend who does this kind of stuff (post a message looking for a DJ on the school bulletin board). **or** DO IT YOURSELF, records all the songs and labels it and set up a good stereo system set (donât have one BORROW one!!!!)

Games and Activities - Best dancer, Best tattoo, Best looker, etc, glow stick limbo contest, play flashlight tag with glow sticks, and have beach ball to throw around the dance floor.

(Glow stick are at Michaels craft store for a $1 which it contain 15 glow sticks per case.)

Why can't Americans legally drink at 18?

Q. Why, if you're otherwise considered an adult at 18, do you have to ask your mommy and daddy (and by proxy, your supposedly libertine government) if you can legally have a glass of wine with dinner before you spill your blood on the sands of Iraq?

Answer
There generally wasn't a drinking age until Prohibition was enacted in 1919. After repeal in 1933, prohibitionists held enough sway that many states and counties set minimum drinking ages, often at 21. The drinking age was lowered along with the voting age in the 70s under the assumption that 18 year olds were mature enough to have all adult rights and responsibilities. In the 80s, the "war on drugs" made people question alcohol and tobacco more seriously, and a few dumb drunk drivers led to the formation of MADD, which lobbied for a higher drinking age.

The federal government has no authority to dictate a drinking age, so they passed an Act in 1984 that set the "recommended" age at 21, and set provisions to cut highway funding to all states that didn't comply. Over time, the argument has morphed from the matter of drunk driving to the matter of "maturity" which is completely irrelevent here - 18 year olds can partake in much more dangerous activities than drinking alcohol. Today, the law has led to a sort of witch hunt - people are so concerned about "minors" getting alcohol in my area that law enforcement and the media in my area frequently hire 20 year olds to attempt to purchase alcohol repeatedly until some unlucky clerk allows the sale and is subsequently crucified for it.

Today, people are polarized into two camps. Some (myself included) have lost all respect for the drinking age, and take matters into their own hands. I stopped saying no to a beer at a party when I was 18, and I truthfully cannot name more than 5 people who have never had a drink underage. It was common during highschool, and literally universal during college. We call for drinking age reform because the current drinking age simply does NOT work, and there is no need for a law that "everybody breaks."

The other camp generally refuses to believe that an 18 year old can possibly be mature enough for a beer under any circumstances. Many would argue that the age of majority/drinking age discrepancy should be resolved by raising the age of majority rather than the drinking age. It is not unusual to hear from this group that people are "kids" until their mid-20s, alcohol should be illegal altogether, and the minimum age for marriage and sexual consent should be 30.

Wikipedia is looking for funding?

ucw w

I just downloading the 2011â12 Wikimedia Foundation Annual Plan

The 2011â12 Risk statement was a 6 page bunch of nonsense, In fact the whole plan of funding is.

Their looking to get $ 28,281,000.00 to be used for ..

salaries and wages $ 13,356,000.00 for the year / 95 people = $ 140,589.47 each.

Internet hosting $ 2,667,000.00 for the year to go towards their existing data centers in Tampa and Netherlands plus for building another, WTF when i had a website i paid for the big package and was paying $ 24.95 per Month unlimited bandwidth etc. what this is, going towards brazil and India locations.

capital expenditures $ 2,607,000.00 to build out of additional data center and equipment to support audience growth and new functionality ..
In other words this plan and the internet hosting plan is going towards building two bullshit centers one in brazil and the other in India which am sure they will just rent two small dirty warehouses and work out of them.

fundraising exps. $ 1,094,000.00 goes towards "donation processing fees, charitable registrations and fundraising support" your kidding?

external contractors $ 2,572,000.00 technical contractors and writing/ design support. Am not sure what this part is for since the look hasnât changed.

travel $ 1,646,000.00 so they can vacation in brazil and India.

wikimania travel $ 96,000.00 goes towards their pocket money while their in brazil and India.

legal and audit fees $ 555,000.00 goes towards trademarks on what? I donât know .. also it goes towards legal defense fees and audit fees more bullshit.

facilities and operations $ 1,674,000.00 office rent, furniture and equipment, supplies and maintenance .. this is part three for brazil and India.

volunteer and staff development $ 776,000.00 this goes towards setting up workshops to talk with people, traveling themselves there and their bonus salary.

merchandise $ 300,000.00 for merchandise for online store, I cannot find this store?

awards and grants $ 938,000.00 this goes towards having a parties, dinners and then giving some poor volunteers some piece of paper telling them how great they were for helping.

Answer
Haha: nice one!
I'd seen the 'appeals' for funding (and ignored). Glad I did because it sound like nonsense from what you state above!
Aside from the other rediciulous forecast: 300k for merchandise for online store: what are they GIVING it away? If not; they'll probably make a fair profit from that. Has it been declared in the 'income' part of the Annual Plan?
Also: why can't they just continue the way they are?

Answer
The dishes are quite elegant, but remember these dishes with the silver trim are not able to be put in the dishwasher. They will all have to be washed by hand. I have a set of Noritake with the silver trim that is sitting in my china closet gathering dust. We don't even get them out for holidays anymore. Of course, we have at least 16 people at holidays, so the dishes can really pile up. For a small group, there would be no problem.
