Where to get an really nice dinnerware set for Thanksgiving?

Q. This is my first Thanksgiving in my new house and we are have guest. I want a beautiful table but can't seem to find an elegant pumpkin dinnerware set. I have searched all the big stores ie Macy's, Kohl's, JC Penny's, Belks etc and nothing. I have spent hours on the internet and cant seem to find anything that gives a WOW Factor.

Answer
Probably there are not a lot of pumpkin dinnerware choices, unless you do paper plates. I did find a cute pumpkin soup set, that might be good to accompany your dinner. If you just had really nice plates, and then some napkins that were festive that might be nice too. Check out these pumpkin soup bowls at Target, It think they are cute. If not soup, they could have gravy in them, or salad, or pumpkin custard for dessert!

Where can I find the Worldview Asian Blossom Dinnerware Set - Onyx from Target? It's unavailable everywhere!?

jsh2403

I know the dinnerware has been around atleast a couple of years and they probably quit making it, but I was hoping to find it on ebay or something. I cannot find this anywhere!

Answer
I would continue with ebay.... target or amazon also used to carry it....

Answer

Poutine the not-so-healthy way

Ingredients:
â¢2 pounds beef stew meat
â¢1 cup flour
â¢Salt and pepper
â¢4 tablespoons olive oil
â¢4 cups beef broth
â¢2 tablespoons garlic powder
â¢Oil for frying
â¢3 pounds potatoes, peeled and cut into fries
â¢2 cups cheddar cheese curds

Directions:
1.Take the beef out of the refrigerator to get the chill off of it. While the beef is coming to room temperature, mix the flour, about a tablespoon each salt and pepper, and the garlic powder. Dredge the beef in the flour and let it rest.

2.Pour the olive oil into a Dutch oven and let it get hot over medium-high heat. Next, add the meat and brown it on all sides; add the broth and bring it to a boil. Put the lid on the Dutch oven, set the temperature to medium-low and let the stew meat cook for 1 hour. After an hour, remove the lid to let the sauce thicken.

3.Pour the oil for frying into the fryer and set the thermometer for 350 degrees F. Fry the potatoes in small batches until they start to turn golden (about 6 minutes). Remove and sprinkle with salt. Fry them a second time for maximum crispiness until they are golden brown (another 6 to 8 minutes). When they are done, sprinkle with salt again.

4.Assemble your poutine by pouring gravy (with the meat) on top of the fries and topping with cheese curds.

Answer
mom says to count the maximum number of guests you expect at one time then add four extra

12 guests + 4 spare = 16

you would order a service for 16 - that way if one ever got broken or you needed a plate to set a cake on you have it

I'm so frustrated with my family! Help?

Angelinka

My 22 yr old brother and his girlfriend live here because her parents keep kicking her out because she talks back to them and comes home at 3 AM if she even goes home.

Anyways...we are Russian (I was born there, my brother wasnt..)...and I have lived in Irkutsk, Russia from 12 years old to 15 years old with my dad. So I have an accent. I am 17 now.

My brothers girlfriend is from Malaysia, but lived in New Zealand till 3 years ago.

She makes fun of the how I say things with my accent. She constantly puts me down. She and my brother only like Thai or Asian food. Whcih i actually hate...and it's so dumb, I'm expected to cook whatever they want, when they want

Oh yeah, everything I make that is Russian or food I like, smells like "Dead rotting animals" according to her. Even if its just cherry compote or something.

My mom pays everything...feeds this girl every night for a year and a half! My mom is going through a divorce from my dad who has all the money (she had a pre nup), and my brothers girlfriend has no medical insurance...is always sick...my mom pays ER visits out of pocket...and medicine for her...thousands. She buys this girl Betsey Johnson dresses too even! THe girl has a low paying job, but still a job, and has never paid a cent...Oh yah, my bro spends $170 on gourmet chocolate for her on Vday with my moms credit card. Stupid.

My mom doesn't care if they say mean things to me...but if I say something even a little snappy....oh boy.

My mom takes all her anger out on me, and says she wished she had aborted me, and that she'd rather have her as her daughter....! wtf? creepy.

I find this funny. I cook gourmet meals every night for her and clean the house. All while having Lupus. No one ever cares to check how I am doing. Its always about THEM and how "sick" they are when they have the common cold. It's like a huge pity party for my bros girlfriend 24/7...how she was "verbally abused by psychos"

I want to go back to Russia but my mom says "no".

I know things could be worse but she's pissing me off...Im not being physically beat up or anything, but I could be a lot happier...She gets offended when I say I want to leave

I need some guidance on getting a life of my own.
Oh yeah..my mom threatens me with "If you tell your dad about her living in his house and on his money ...you'll be sorry and you'll wreck your life too"

I'm like..okay..? whatever she is talking about.

My dad is nice enough to give her a huge check every month until the divorce is final.

I bet she'll take my child support and use it on his gf, my goodness

Answer
ok - take a breath - yu have a very hectic life at the moment and your getting very tangled and caught up in it all! your mum is going through alot a divorce can bring out all sorts off emotions and pressure and if you dad is getting all the money she is going to be very stressed so she is going to snap out - just keep out of her way and support her like do some chores or buy her dinner and set it up. maybe your mum feels like she has to make up for your brothers girlfriend homelife she is doing a really nice thing for her just let your mum do it and keep a look out with it if it seems at any point that your brothers girlfriend is taking advantage of it then speak to your mother or your brother - also you may want to suggest to you mum when she seems in a good mood and calm that your brothers girlfriend should get health insurance see how that goes down - just support your mum and keep a watch on the money situation - hope this helps good luck

Isn't there a site where I can get info about Altwasser Silesia china patterns? All I pull up is Ebay!!! LM

LinOH

I inherited a full set of dinner china for 12 from my grandmother. There are several poorly mended pieces that I'd love to replace and then use. Upon looking, I find "Silesia" is not the pattern name..but all I can find on the net as links always takes me back to ebay...where I eventually want to go but only after I can educate myself a bit. My pattern is a thin pastel rim (3/4") with little pink roses interspersed with "medallions" of dark and light blue. The whole thing is interwoven with gold or wheat -colored trim and metallic gold bands on a pale yellow background. Most of the plate is white with some thin metallic gold bands.

Best used to paint dinnerware?

Angelica

BASICALLY, instead of buying a brand new set, i want to paint my bowls and plates one color to match the other nice ones. I read to use porcelain or glass paint which would be safe to eat off of? (if that's correct or not) would porcelain or glass paint be a good option? if not then what, and where to buy?
thanks a bunch(:

Answer
Hi Angelica
I would NOT paint any dinnerware. I would however suggest that you shop at a local thrift or second hand store or even yard sales for a new gently used set of dinnerware. Many times there are many styles and qualities to choose from and typically under ten dollars.

where is the best place to buy a vintage 1950's or 60's dinnerware set?

amber

I also want to replace my silverware set with vintage flatware....I will eventually be doing my whole kitchen over to look like a diner of the 50's and 60's thanks!

Answer
Garage sales and tag sales I see tons of that stuff evertime I go to one. Also Ebay but you will pay more then tag and garage sales.

Best appliances and quality household items?

She glows

I'm moving out for the first time with two roommates and we need to purchase just about everything. I'm wondering what brands we should look for that will give us the most out of our money and not break or wear out after a couple of uses.

My budget doesn't allow for very expensive items. I have a part-time job and I'm in college so I definitely don't have a lot to spend so I'll probably be shopping at WalMart and Target and some secondhand stores.

I need:
- Dishes (I was thinking simple white Corelle)
- Silverware
- Cooking utensils (Basic spatulas, etc)
- Cookware

- Towels
- Vacuum
- Washer & dryer

If there is anything else you can think so please feel free to suggest it :]

definitely look for the washer and dryer (maybe even the vacuum) in the paper, under the classified. sometime you can get lucky and there are some rich folks getting the latest dryer and they're just giving their other one away. dishes at walmart work just fine, the sets in the boxes are worth the money, you get like 4 big plates, 4 smaller plates, and a couple of coffee mugs i think. there are also some sets of glasses that are like, 8 bucks for a set of 16. the only thing you should think about splurging on a little bit s your cookware. the sets of pots at walmart tend to be made very cheaply, and are thin. that means that you'll spend endless nights trying not to burn food. then you'll end up burning the food and it'l be stuck on the pot forvever. target is better for the pots, just buy the ones that are not in sets. buy one large, one medium, and one small. a large skillet a small skillet.

don't be afraid to go garage sale shopping, you can find some awesome stuff! including cookware and whatnot. go to the fanciest neighborhood in your area for some quality stuff. check the papers.

oh and spatulas, etc... wooden spoons will last forever, one metal spatula, a plastic spatula.

consider a crockpot, it'll be a lifesaver. when i was broke we would make a roast at the beginning of thew week and make sandwiches all week long. soups, casseroles...crockpots are awesome.

Fear

Moving into my own apartment very soon. Now i am just trying to make a sort of shopping list for what i will need. I don't mean just groceries but things like bed sheets, lamps, household items. Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks :)

Answer
10" frying pan with lid
2 quart saucepan
At least four place-settings of cutlery
Four place-settings of dinnerware (get Corelle ware if you can) i.e. dinner plates, lunch plates, sandwich plates, soup bowls, pasta bowls, fruit nappies, tea cups.
Four coffee mugs
Four drinking glasses
Four table placemats
A coffee maker, if you drink coffee
a teapot if you drink tea
About 4 Glad plastic containers to store left-overs
A toaster
Four dish cloths
Four dish towels
A can opener
Two wooden spoons
A soup ladle
A dish drainer rack and drain tray

Four hand towels
Two bath towels
Four facecloths

A good flashlight.

One set of bed sheets and pillowcases
Two blankets
One duvet or comforter (Goodwill or Value Village is a good place to shop for these)

A microwave is a life-saver for a working girl if you can afford one.

Glad or Saran wrap
Resealable plastic bags (large sandwich size are best)
Hand soap
Dish detergent
Toilet paper

Other things to shop for at Goodwill or Value Village:

A tv-table
Kitchen table and chairs
Love seat and easy chair (sofas are hard to move and no one sits in the middle anyway)
Floor lamp
End tables
Coffee table
A slow cooker (a necessity because, with it, you can come home to dinner already made)
Cookie sheet (great for making brownies or for heating up frozen fish fillets, pizza, etc.)
Dutch oven with lid for making soups and stews and even pot-roasts.
A Pyrex cake dish
A Pyrex pie plate
Candy dish
Divided o'erderve tray
Plastic tray (like at McDonalds) for carrying your dinner to the tv-table on those kinds of nights

Bedroom suite? Dresser, end table, bed (don't buy a used mattress though)
tv if you think you need one

That should get you started anyway

Good luck in your new home

Is cost of living higher in Japan or the UK? (Hallo, Yozora!!)?

mmhmmm

Both countries are known elsewhere for being "expensive", but which is more expensive and in what areas?

And why is Japanese food in the UK so bloody expensive? I can get a wonderful meal at an Italian restaurant for a reasonable £7-8, but a meal of comparable quality and quantity would cost £15-20 at a Japanese restaurant!

And the nearest Korean restaurant is a ruddy 40 miles away in Glasgow (I live in Edinburgh). So add £9 for a return train ticket to the cost of the meal >_<!!

A little about myself:
I'm Chinese British. I was born here (down south in Kent to be exact) but I lived in Taiwan for the last 10 years, and I only returned (to Edinburgh) last September.

So what do I feel about prices in Edinburgh?
- Rent... fair enough, lower than what we paid in Taiwan.
- Food... Italian is reasonable, but Asian is too bloody expensive!! Asian food isn't supposed to be so expensive!!
- Everything else... not noticeably different from what I'm used to.
To goldlust74:
Well yes, you could compare Edinburgh prices with London prices...

But you could also compare Edinburgh with a smaller Japanese city like Kumamoto or Hiroshima!

Answer
Hello!
8 )

Well ... it's hard to say for sure! As for rent, I don't know - we owned our own place in England, so it's not worth trying to compare rental costs now.

Food - European food, including BRITISH food! Is a LOT more expensive here. If you do price comparisons in ANY country, you'll find that if you get someone back 'home' to buy something for you, and mail it by surface mail, it costs about the same as the price in the shops. This is true of Japanese food in France as well as English & French food here. It's not so surprising - exporting goods costs money, and they need to make some profit ... but it's irritating to have to pay more than 700å for 125g of Marmite...!! (Can't help thinking of that, we need to buy more today! Hope they haven't put the price up...!)

Restaurants are a totally different matter though. I never go to 'posh' restaurants, so I am comparing the prices of average or family restaurants, but in almost ALL things Japan is a lot CHEAPER than the UK! The exceptions are pizzas, and McDonald's & KFC! All about the same price in both countries! Strange and suspicious...!! I find it very soothing to go to a buffet style Chinese restaurant in Yokohama's Chinatown, and pay anything from £7 - £10 p/p for a truly slap-up dinner ... yet in the UK anything of that price would be a truly awful selection! (I tried the cheapest buffet I could find in London's Chinatown once ... about £7 ... pretty revolting!) Also, in the UK it's generally about £5 for ONE dish from a Chinese take-away - but here in Japan I can get a set meal for that, with rice, soup, maybe dessert or gyouza! AND usually they refill your rice bowl for free!! In the UK you'd pay up to a couple of quid just for plain rice.
: (

Drinks - how much is a 360 ml can of fizzy drink from a vending machine in the UK now? Here it was still 120å last time I looked! 150å for most 500 ml PET bottles. The best drinks are from Saizeria when you eat there - the drink bar is 180å for people older than elementary school age, and 100å for kids! The selection is fairly varied too, including hot and cold drinks. That's the only CHEAP drink bar I know of though - the rest are more expensive! About 300å perhaps...?!

Food from shops & supermarkets is probably cheaper in the UK - in some cases by a lot, in other cases by a little. Obviously the Japanese foods are more expensive in the UK - and European style foods, like bread, cheese, milk, are more expensive here. A case of demand not being high enough to keep output high and prices low. That's also why Japanese restaurants are more expensive than Chinese restaurants in the UK - plus the fact that Chinese food isn't as limited and they can use the meat or veg that's cheapest at the market! Japanese restaurants sell mostly high-end food - sashimi for example. You can't cut costs with stuff like that - not without killing people..! If more people were interested in Japanese food, the price would go down because they'd be able to import things in bulk - or even make (or brew) them in the UK. Plus they'd have specially trained fishermen to prepare freshly caught fish for sushi and sashimi, which would make it easier to get, and better quality, and more convenient ... but it's not likely to happen I'm afraid! Anyway, bulk buying = cheaper retail prices, and quick sales help keep prices down too, by reducing waste. So if people WANT the cost of sushi to go down, they have to get thousands more people to buy it, REGULARLY!

Travel ... it's a LOT cheaper here in Japan, which is just as well because having a car isn't really convenient!

Electrical goods are a little cheaper, but nowhere near enough to make it worth ordering something from another country and getting them to mail it to the UK!

International phone calls - more expensive if you use NTT, cheaper if you use G=call!

I won't waste my time comparing fuel bills or local taxes, because they tend to go up every year (especially in the UK!) and they vary from district to district too.

How do I get a replacement set of medals?

jonathan

Tonight my unit has a formal dinner. We all have to wear our navy dress blues. We were all given the day off to prepare everything, since our chief said an admiral will attend or something like that. When I was putting my uniform together, I dropped my medal rack on the floor and 7 out of my 10 medals cracked. I left and immediately drove to the base px, but they didn't have everything I need! What do I do? I don't know how to get them fixed or get replacements in only 10 hours. What should I do?

Answer
I don;t really beleive a word of your story for a number of reasons:

- you should be wearing whites at this time of the year (unless you are in the UK, but your time frame rules that out)
- as you posted this an hour ago, the only place your timeline of needing this in ten hours makes sense is if you are in Hawaii, and they definitely do not wear blues
- today is Saturday - of course you have the day off
- just because an Admiral is attending is no reason to change the way you have to prepare
- issue medals do not crack when dropped
- the Navy does not call their on-base sales store a "PX" - that is an Army thing
- even if your medals did break, you can wear the ribbons

See - none of what you say really adds up. I think that you are a wanna-bee who is trying to figure out how to scam some free medals so you pose as a Serviceman.

What size table setting?

Bella

My fiance and I are getting married soon and are doing our gift registry list in a few weeks. We already have an 8 person cutlery/dinnerware set from our engagement. We are considering increasing it to a 12 or 16 place setting so we can accommodate more people and to account for breakages - what size setting do you think should we get?

Answer
The standard has been twelve for years, but many manufacturers are now selling boxed sets of eight. That being said, most "good" china is sold open stock which means you can buy whatever pieces you want individually, so your options are basically endless!

We have two sets of "good" china and one set of "everyday" china. One of the sets of "good" china is 16 place settings, but that's mostly due to a screaming deal on ebay! When we have gatherings that are too large for one or the other set we just alternate the two patterns around the table!

As for flatware, trust me, you can never have too much! We have 4 different sets, with one being strictly for everyday use, one in silver, and two for larger parties. We actually have one pattern in which we have thirty place settings just for really large parties.(it still wasn't enough for Christmas last year!)

Do whatever feels right for you! If you think you'll do a great deal of entertaining or if you both have large families plan accordingly!

Congratulations! I hope you have a very long and happy life together and many wonderful dinner parties!

I want to buy the Corelle Red Chile dinnerware set but want to know if it is lead free. How do I find out?

patricia01

Answer
I checked Corelle.com and they didn't have any information about where this dinnerware is made, so it could be made in a country that has no rules or laws concerning lead in dinnerware. Customs doesn't test for lead either. You could write Consumer Reports and ask, or check the web for recalls, but I didn't find any pertinent information currently available.

Here's what to try next:

Get a lead tester at home depot or Lowe's or a larger drug store or Wal-Mart or something. It should come in a crayon like thing that you just rub on and it changes color if there's lead in it. Then take it to the store and test the dinnerware you like before you buy. If there aren't any on the shelf take the box up to customer service and tell them you would like to open it and test it for lead before you buy it please. Most of the time they are happy to help. Good Luck. I like that pattern too : )

How to read catering menu prices?

sailacruz

I'm planning an event, and browsing through several catering brochures as a result. Some of the pricing is straightforward - a buffet set-up is 20.95 per person, or Hors D'oeuvres are priced per 100 pieces - but when it lists plated dinners, it simply gives a price next to the plate and some minimum, such as 50 people or less. Is this a per person price? Some clarity would be helpful.

Answer
Hopefully you would be able to tell whether it is a per person price or a price for 50people. I know when I write menus there would be a big difference. Generally it is a price per person. With the minimum amount of people being about the economy of scale. I can't give you a special price on that meal for 6people, I can for 60people. It doesn't take 10times longer to cook for 60people, only takes about twice as long. So there is a savings on wages. You really need to call the catering companies and talk to them. Look out for hidden extra costs, will you be charged for rubbish removal if event is held at your home. Do they have bar prices for alcohol, but then in the fine print say there is an extra cost for a manned bar? When in doubt ask, and ask the companies. They want your business, they will explain things.

What are some pratical tips for setting up a wedding registry?

Giggly Gir

How many registered gift requests per guests? Price range? Help!!!! Thank you!

Answer
Well, this answer is going to be "practical" with respect to the idea of setting up a household that will last for decades and play a role in the larger relationships of community and extended family. If your focus is on maximizing your material gains from your guests, read the other answer(s).

First, understand that a registry is not about registering "gift requests". That's obscene. Nice people don't ask for gifts, or even expect them from their guests.

A registery is for helping YOU plan what you need for your household in the LONG run -- where "long" includes things like, what will you need for the coming sixty year's worth of Christmas Dinner's, children's and grandchildren's baptisms or bris and confirmations or bar mitzvahs, how will you entertain when you're lobbying on behalf of the PTA or supporting your spouse's run for governor, and so on.

And since this is about building community and family, you want to plan to set the highest standards of taste, hospitality and graciousness for the home where you are about to be the home-maker. So don't register at Target: register at a reputed department store that understands the concept of a permanent registry. That way they'll still have the name of the pattern on hand twelve years from now, when you've broken a wine goblet and need to replace it, or can finally afford that matching soup tureen.

Give your guests the benefit of the doubt: if you've registered for something that's available cheaper at Walmart they can choose for themselves to go to Walmart. If all they can afford is a spatula they'll give you a spatula: you don't need to register your preferred choice for generic things that wear out and don't come in a distinctive pattern! At the same time recognize that registering for fine china openstock gives them the choice of giving one teacup or a place setting or four place settings -- and unlike a dishrag or wooden spoon, they'll know that they're giving something you'll cherish and pass to future generations.

Register for dinnerware, flatware, and drinkware. Register for the nicest quality that you will actually USE -- no point in having 24kt-gold trimmed Spode porcelain if you'd never use anything you can't put through the dishwasher and microwave. But you can have beautiful Denby stoneware. Do not register for things that you would never buy for yourselves -- remember that you are grownups now, and it's YOUR responsibility to furnish your household with all necessities, not something to be shirked off onto honoured guests. "Real" things are in better taste than faux status -- for example either sterling silver or stainless steel are in better taste than thin silver-plate over underlying base metal. If you wouldn't spring for sterling for yourself, then choose stainless and register for that. If you have inherited heirloom china or already begun collecting high-quality pieces, then build on the patterns you already own. If your pattern is discontinued, search for a coordinating pattern that looks well beside the heirloom china.

Start with a small number of pieces that are enough to serve a typical simple meal for you and your spouse -- for example two dinner plates, two mugs, two soup plates and two dessert plates. Then add additional pieces to the place settings you've got and add additional place settings. If you are going to entertain formally always add place settings in multiples of four -- for example 2, 6 or 10 people at the table are easier to seat symmetrically than 4, 8 or 12 are. Twelve is too many for domestic formal dinners anyway, at least by post-industrial standards.

Answer
Set two years after the first film, the film begins with Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis) and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) meeting up with each other at a shop in New York which turns into a flashback to how Carrie first meets Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda in 1986 in New York City.

The film then jumps to the present, two years after the events of the first film. At the Connecticut same-sex wedding of Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson) and Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone), Liza Minnelli appears to officiate the wedding vows and sings Beyoncé's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)".
The four friends now have lives that are more stressful than before: All are married except Samantha, who is now 52 and trying to keep her libido alive with hormones while dealing with menopause. Miranda quits her job after the new managing partner disrespects her once too often. Charlotte's two children are a handful and she's worried that Harry is attracted to their buxom Irish nanny, Erin (Alice Eve).

Carrie's marriage to Mr. Big (Chris Noth) has settled down, though they differ on how to spend their spare time: she loves to go out, he would prefer to stay home every night, eating take-out meals and watching television. For their anniversary, Carrie gives Mr. Big a vintage Rolex watch engraved with a romantic message, while he, much to her dismay, shows her a new television in their bedroom as his gift, which Big says they can use to watch old movies together as they did on vacation. Carrie is disappointed, as she had hoped for jewelry as a gift. She asks to spend some personal time alone in her old apartment, but Big enjoys the time to himself even more than she does, and to Carrie's dismay, asks to make it a weekly occurrence.

Meanwhile, Samantha has been approached by an Arab sheikh to devise a PR campaign for his business. He offers to fly her and her friends on an all-expenses-paid luxury vacation to Abu Dhabi. The girls happily accept, although Carrie is worried about the separation from Big and Charlotte is worried about leaving her husband alone with the nanny. Only Miranda, unfettered by a job for the first time in her life, plunges enthusiastically into studying Arabic and planning sightseeing.

Upon entering Abu Dhabi, Samantha's hormone-enhancing drugs are confiscated under UAE law. This renders her devoid of estrogen; to her great dismay, her famous libido goes dead, unaroused even by Australian men in Speedo swimwear. Charlotte tries to call Harry every few minutes. Miranda revels in the luxury surrounding her, while Carrie befriends her manservant, Gaurau (Raza Jaffrey), and learns of his long distance marriage - he can only afford to see his wife back in India once every few months.

While out shopping at the local souk with Miranda, Carrie runs into her former lover, Aidan (John Corbett). He proposes dinner à deux at his hotel, but she is noncommittal. The next day, however, she is crushed at reading a negative critique of her new book in The New Yorker, and decides to meet Aidan for dinner, although Charlotte cautions her not to play with fire. The dinner is very enjoyable, with the two discussing old times. Aidan remarks on the ways Carrie is "not like other women", pointing out that when they were engaged, she would only wear her engagement ring on a chain around her neck; now that she's married, she still isn't wearing a diamond on her ring finger, only her wedding ring. In a moment of remembered passion, they kiss. Carrie runs away in a panic and returns to the hotel.

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Miranda and Charlotte have drinks together and discuss the difficulties of motherhood. Miranda admits painfully that being a mother is not enough for her and that she misses her job. Charlotte confesses her guilt at enjoying her time away from her daughters and her frustration with trying to be the perfect mother at all times. She drinks so many cocktails to bolster her courage to be honest with Miranda that she becomes very tipsy.

At this point, Carrie bursts into the room, crying, "I played with fire!". After summoning Samantha, she tells her friends about the kiss, and asks them whether or not she should tell Big, as she says they have no secrets between them. Miranda reflects on the events of the previous film, when her husband, Steve (David Eigenberg), told her about his affair and how in retrospect, while it helped clear his conscience, she is not sure that knowing was worth the pain she went through. Charlotte is too drunk to be any help, but Carrie already knows where she stands. Samantha counsels Carrie to wait and sleep on it before deciding anything.

Can you throw a respectable wedding on a 3k budget?

Lisa

My cousin is getting married in one year from now, him and his fiance don't have much money
so they set a 3k budget.

They want to invite 150 people and accommodate that many people on that budget this includes the reception as well.
They are a young couple in there 20s , they asked me what I think about it.

I don't know a hell of a lot about weddings as I'm only 24 and never been married , but I said if you have a small budget maybe they should go to the court house and get their marriage certificate, and than spend that money on the reception because I think 3k could make a nice reception.
and maybe later on they could throw a wedding later when they have more money.

What do you think, can you throw a nice wedding on a 3k budget?
The wedding will be in a suburb of Atlanta I think in a back yard or something to that effect , from what I understand the brides family will take care of all the food, but I'm still not sure about such a small budget for 150 people. I mean you have flowers, candles, music , and a photographer plus what ever else. I know a photographer/DJ alone will run about 1k and that is low end.

They do not belong to a church or any kind of organization so that might be out of the question.
I will be a brides maid in this wedding so I hope it turns out well :)
And the bride to be was given a wedding dress from a friend of hers .. she said she will have it altered a bit so she can fit into it better.

Answer
you can IF you do these things
1- cut the guest list in half, no joke, i'm serious
2- make it in the morning, catered breakfast is much cheaper
3- or make it real late at night like 8 pm and let everyone know there will only be cake and punch, this will force people to get dinner somewhere and then come to the party
4- NO real flowers ANYWHERE not on the bouquet, the flower girl the groom ALL flowers must be fake real flowers cost a fortune
5-no videographer
6-no photographer
7- no wedding favors
8-no place cards
9- no rented anything, this means tables, chairs, plants, vases, nothing rented, rentals are super expensive
10- no real dinnerware or plates
11- no live band or live musicians of any kind, all music must be recordings or on an ipod
12- no bar, or at least no open bar, but if you make it in the morning you can get away with no bar cuz who wants to drink at 10 am?
13- no registering for gifts, if you aren't gonna throw a fancy party it would be tacky to ask for anything, people will be offended
14- no bridesmaids or groomsmen gifts, get them something later, after the wedding
15- no professional invitations, get them at hobby lobby print them yourself and make do
16- look for restaurants with package deals, for a wedding with 75 guests they are easy to find
17- craigslist EVERYTHING you can
18- make anything you can
19- tell people who can make things, decorate, sing, sew, or decorate cakes that THIS will be their wedding gift to you if they do it for you
20- two words: in-state honeymoon, do NOT travel anywhere, save the trip for the 1 yr anniversary, road trips are romantic!

in fashion/product developement what is a "style-out"?

Answer
How many people spend hours creating the perfect vacation itinerary only to be left dumbfounded when staring at their suitcase? Karin Brownstein and Tanya Traykovski, founders of Voyage Style, have solved the perennial problem of how to pack and what to wear. Voyage Style, the essential anywhere companion, fashionably outfits travelers for all destinations. It offers versatile pieces for people on the go that are packaged and sold in its own carefree carry on.

Avid travelers, who are also fashion-conscious, Karin and Tanya always found it very difficult to pack. Their greatest challenge was to combine style, easy care, comfort, and cultural appropriateness, while not being weighed down by a lot of luggage. Explains Karin, â By talking to our fellow travelers, we realized that many women, like us, were effortlessly elegant in their daily lives, but had no practical yet sophisticated travel wear options. Even though I might be thousands of miles away from my closet, I want to look and feel like I do at home.â

Voyage Style, the essential anywhere companion, combines several great fitting garments - the City to Country Pant, the Sites to Shores Shirt Jacket, the Here to Anywhere Tee, the Just Perfect Jacket, the Sneaker to Stiletto Skirt and the Day to Dinner Dress. These create a myriad of fantastic looks for any occasion of type or trip and are packaged in the carry on. Tanya adds, âI find Voyage Style very practical when I mix business with pleasure. It is easy to pack and carry on, dresses me stylishly to meet with customers, and is comfortable for running around when Iâm off. I was wardrobeâchallenged when invited to a business dinner in Boston after hiking in the Berkshires. If only I could have whipped Voyage Style out of my pack!â

What makes Voyage Style unique is that it was designed with traveling in mind. Karin continues, âI have learned that low necklines, high hemlines and bare shoulders are prohibitive in many countries and cultures, as well as in a business environment. We selected these designs because the traveler who is wandering in a local market will never be denied entrance to a Cathedral, Buddhist Monastery, Synagogue or Hindu temple or boardroom. Our styles can also be dressed up to go to work anywhere.â All pieces are in high quality, wrinkle-free jersey fabrics that can be machine or hand washed, line dried and packed compactly. The packaging is value added because it can be used as a carry on, a cosmetics bag, beach bag or anything a creative individual dreams up. Best of all, Voyage Style is affordable, with a four piece set retailing for under $250.

Karin and Tanya have said goodbye to big bags and baggage claims. They know that once you purchase Voyage Style, all you need is your toothbrush and ticket (and possibly briefcase), and youâre ready to go anywhere. Voyage Styleâs compact elegance is particularly compelling in todayâs travel environment as it enables a woman to get in and out of the airport quickly.

Voyage Style, the essential anywhere companion, will be launched at retail in New York in November 2002 at Flight 01 in Henri Bendel, JV in Minneapolis, and Sassy in Naples, and rolled out to the W Hotels and specialty stores nationwide in March. Tanya contributes experience in fashion design and product development, and Karin brings a strategic marketing background to the brand. The garments are all made in the U.S.A. from 96% polyester and 4% lycra. The packaging is created by Susan Fisher for juice DESIGN. Voyage Style will be sold in department, specialty and travel stores nationwide starting in Spring 2003.

what's the difference between supper and dinner?

maricar_cu

aside from their spelling of course, is there any significant difference between the two?

Answer
Supper
Supper is the name for the evening meal in some dialects of English - ordinarily the last meal of the day, usually the meal that comes after dinner. A similar meal referred to in parts of the UK is 'Hubsies' which is also eaten late in the evening; unlike supper, however, it is usually eaten after midnight, when the eater would usually be in bed. People working overnight would refer to the main meal of their shift as their Hubsies. Another example would be if someone were to consume food during the night, after being out for the evening for example.

The term is derived from the French souper, which is still used for this meal in Canadian French and sometimes in Belgian French. It is related to soup. It is also related to the German word for soup, Suppe. (The OED, however, suggests that the root, "sup," retains obscure origins. OED Online, Accessed 31 Oct 2007.)

Other meanings for supper
Supper is always an evening meal, but must be noted that supper is not a common meal in many cultures.

In Britain, whereas "dinner" is a fairly formal evening meal (usually at 8:00 p.m. in upper and middle class homes), "supper" is used to describe a less formal, simpler family meal (perhaps at 7:00 or 7:30 p.m.). Alternatively "supper" was used to describe a late night snack, perhaps of consomme and toast. In working class British homes (and also in Australia) "tea" can be used for the evening meal, served at 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. In some areas in the United Kingdom, supper is a term for a snack eaten after the evening meal and before bed, usually consisting of a warm, milky drink and British biscuits or cereal. In the United Kingdom, particularly in Scots and Scottish English, a fish supper is a portion of fish and chips. In Northern Ireland the word is used also as a modifier in this way for a range of other similar meals, such as a sausage supper or pastie supper, and appears to indicate the addition of chips.

In Australian English, supper may refer to a late light dessert or snack (such as toast and cereal) had some time after dinner. In New Zealand it is similar â generally cake and tea/coffee served later in the evening, particularly when people have visitors.

In most of the United States and Canada, "supper" and "dinner" are considered synonyms, both served between six and eight o'clock, although in the rural American South serving between three and five o'clock is common. In the south also, dinner can be used to describe the meal at around 11:00 a.m., while supper is used to denote the evening meal. You may also hear poor mans supper in the south which is consistent upon some type of beans such as pintoes, potatoes, fatback, and cornbread. Supper is usually considered lighter fare and a more casual setting, and may be served before a usual dinner time so that evening activities may be unaffected.

In the Republic of Ireland, a chicken supper is a meal of chips, gravy, onions, peas and chicken breast.

In Portugal, Spain, Latin America, Asia and the Arab World, supper may be taken as late as 10 or 11 p.m.

Dinner
Dinner is the main meal of the day, normally eaten in the evening, but occasionally at lunchtime. The meal normally consists of a combination of cooked, or sometimes uncooked, proteins (meat, fish or legumes), with vegetables, and/or starch products like rice, noodles, or potatoes.

The word "dinner" comes from the French word dîner, the "chief repast of the day", ultimately from the Latin disiunare, which means to break fast (as in the English word "breakfast"). A dinner can also be a more sophisticated meal, such as a banquet.

Hope this helps! =)

Is the Dubai Dhow Dinner Cruise nice?

Antony

Hi, I would just like to know if the Dubai Dhow Dinner cruise is nice and romantic and is it worth it aswell as I want to take a special someone out when I go to Dubai?
Thanks

Answer
I personally didn't fancy the Dinner Dhow Cruise. It was a fun evening with colleagues, the food was good, but not better than good, and I wouldn't call it a romantic setting.
I did a one hour cruise on a dhow in day time as well, which suited me better for getting the experience of a dhow, and would rather recommend that.

You want to go for something romantic with a special someone? Go to the Madinat Jumeirah Resort to Pier Chic or Al Mahara in Burj Al Arab. But both are expensive, with Pier Chic being more affordable.

A restaurant I absolutely fell in love with is Al Hadeerah in the Bab al Shams Resort. This is truly something special, although it is a buffet restaurant. It has a very romantic setting in the sand dunes, great food and a fun arabic atmosphere. This would be something different, special, romantic and entertaining to do. You will take a taxi ride in the desert to go there (40 minutes), but since taxis in Dubai are cheap, it will be fine.
Check however if it is your price range: Adults - AED 425 per person Saturday to Thursday and AED 495 per person on Friday (inclusive of water, soft drinks and Arabic coffee, a visit to the Heritage Museum and either a camel, horse or pony ride). Check here for more: http://www.meydanhotels.com/babalshams/

If you look for something less pricey, check out the other restaurants at the Madinat Jumeirah resort. It has a cute setting, romantic in the evening for strolls or a ride on one of their little dhows trough artificial canals (slightly Venice style)...plus good view to the Burj Al Arab hotel
http://www.jumeirah.com/en/Hotels-and-Resorts/Destinations/Dubai/Madinat-Jumeirah/

Check for other restaurants in Dubai, they have so many great spots, amazing cuisines and will be a better choice than a dinner dhow cruise.

Tip: when you make a reservation (and you should always make one) mention you have a special occasion, birthdays and anniversaries usually get some free treats...

Restaurants you should visit, without the romantic touch:
P.F. Changs while doing the obligatory Emirates Mall or Dubai Mall tour - superior great mall food.
Junsui in Burj Al Arab for a lunch. It is one of the "cheapest" dining options they offer in my personal favorite in the Hotel. It is Asian Buffet, but with a lot of live cooking stations, peking duck, sushi, Tempura, Wagyu Beef (the massage treated, tasty one, but not from Japan) and even Crepe station and chocolate fountain for dessert... 350,- Dirham for lunch, but the best option if you want to see the hotel from the inside...
Latitude in Jumeirah Beach Hotel for a breakfast mania ;-) they have by far the biggest buffet I have ever seen, french nights are also recommendable if they are still doing them...

I hope I could help, I know the restaurants are having quite a price tag, but this would be the ones who are special. Or just pick one of the more affordable ones in the Madinat resort, which has a romantic surrounding in the first place and offers restaurants for every taste and budget...

Kitchen wall color choice?

Im wanting to paint my Kitchen I have black hand painted kitchen cabinets with a gloss finish and white tile counter tops im color match dumb please help

Answer
You've got lots of choices with black and white depending on the "mood" you want to create. To warm it up, you could paint a soft buttery yellow or a cinnamon/salmon or even a mocha shade. For a more contemporary look, an icy aqua or teal or gray would work too. Sometimes finding a curtain, dishes, rug, canister set, table cloth, napkins, cookie jar, etc. that you love can inspire your whole color scheme. See if anything here inspires you:
You could paint the color of these cabinets:

how do you set the table for a 5 course dinner?

Sapphire

Im havinf a dinner for some freinds and would like to try out a 5 course dinner...How do I lay the table? If I lay all the plates and bowls on the table, do I serve the food to each guest and take away the plate once done? or is it better to bring the food on the plate and place it infront of the guest?

Answer
Informal settings generally have fewer utensils and dishes but use a stereotyped layout based on more formal settings. Utensils are arranged in the order and the way a person will use them. Usually in Western culture, that means that the forks, bread plate, spreader, and napkin are to the left, while knives, spoons, drinkware, cups, and saucers are to the right, although the left-right order is reversed in a minority of countries. Formally, in Europe, Mexico, Argentina and Philippines, the cup and saucer will not be placed on the table until the very end of the meal.

[edit] Formal

A formal table settingUtensils are placed about one inch from the edge of the table, each one lining up at the base with the one next to it. Utensils on the outermost position are used first (for example, a salad fork and a soup spoon, then the dinner fork and the dinner knife). The blade of the knife must face toward the plate. The glasses are positioned about an inch from the knives, also in the order of use: white wine, red wine, dessert wine, and water tumbler.

Formal dinner The most formal dinner is served from the kitchen. When the meal is served, in addition to the place plate at each setting there is the roll, the napkin, and the following cutlery/silver: knives, to the rightânever more than threeâand forks to the left, also never more than three. Coffee is served demitasse and spoons are placed on the saucer to the right of each handle. The dessert spoon, to the right, and dessert fork, to the left, are placed on dessert plates when brought to the table. The utensils at a formal dinner must be sterling silver. Serving dishes and utensils are not placed on the table for a formal dinner. [1] The only exception to these general rules is the protocol followed at the Spanish royal court, which was also adopted by the Habsburg court: accordingly all utensils were placed on the right.

At a less formal dinner, not served from the kitchen, the dessert fork and spoon can be set above the plate, fork pointing right, to match the other forks, spoon pointing left.

In Europe, if many courses are to be served, the table is only laid for soup, fish, and meat. The pudding spoon and fork and the savoury knife and fork are then placed on the table as required [2]

[edit] Informal
At an informal setting, fewer utensils are used and serving dishes are placed on the table. Sometimes the cup and saucer are placed on the right side of the spoon, about four inches from the edge of the table. Often, in less formal settings, the napkin and/or cutlery may be held together in a single bundle by a napkin ring. However, such objects as napkin rings are very rare in the United Kingdom, Spain, Mexico, or Italy.

Family dinner Compared to the Formal Dinner, a Family dinner has fewer dining pieces. The napkin can be placed on the plate. There is usually only one fork, spoon & knife with the dinner fork on the left side of the plate, and the dinner knife & teaspoon to the right. The tableware pieces that make up the family dinner setting are[3]:

China:
1. Salad Plate
2. Butter Plate
3. Dinner Plate

Silverware:
1. Dinner knife
2. Dinner fork
3. Teaspoon
4. Butter spreader

Crystal:
1. Water goblet

"You set a table before me" means?

Lobyo

Answer
This means that a dinner is prepared for me. To set a table means to lay all the plates and food out on the table for the dinner or feast.
