Dinnerware + Flatware set?

Q. I'm planning on buying a dinnerware and flatware set service for 8, i'm willing to spend around $200. I typically want a "casual" set, nothing too fancy, but nothing too cheap. Any suggestions?

In 1972, I got Fraser's 18% chromium nickel flatware made in Germany. It was called (spelling unclear in my old note) Cromargan or Kromargan stainless steel and at that time was the only good stainless steel flatwear that you could monogram (I was probably mistaken). It was $12 for a 5 piece place setting, and people wondered why I wasn't asking for silverplate at that price (was it ever that inexpensive?).

30 years later, there is hardly a scratch, and the pieces still hold up to digging into hard ice cream just fine. Lasted 23 years longer than the marriage. Thank goodness I never got around to sending it to Germany to have it monogramed (stamped)!

In the meantime, along the way, I inherited my grandmother's silverplate, so I have the best of both worlds. I'm really glad that I stuck up for the stainless flatwear.

As for the dinnerware, I started out with heavy Pfaltzcraft, which held the food nice and warm, but took up alot of space. Moved to Corelle, just the opposite, and now have a mixture of white Corelle and "new" colorful Fiesta ware. The nearby Goodwill displays complete sets of great-looking dinnerware all the time.

What do you think of my dinnerware set?

Q. It's corelle and all the reviews I've read on it were great. I have been trying to find a green set and have had SUCH difficulty.. I guess green just isn't as popular. I'm buying the same ones as below but off of overstock.. if you know a site where I can get a green dinnerware set cheaper than 32 dollars than please share!! Thanks!

How much money would you need to have saved up for this?

Q. I want to move to Tennessee. I now live in Ohio. And i would rent a house or an apartment. I know i need to have enough money for a deposit and first month's and everything like that. and i would be starting from scratch. the only furniture and stuff that i would have would be bedroom furniture. how much would i need to save to do this? any advice?

This depends on so many factors. First, start looking online for places. Find one within your price range, and see what it has. How many beds, baths, and square footage. Start bargain hunting for furniture, but only buy the necessities at full price right now. You all ready have a bed set, so get things like cookware and dinnerware, a shower curtain, towels if you need them, and a plunger might be a good idea too. if you find a cheap couch at a low price, by all means go for it! Just don't focus on it just yet.

Once you have your place lined up, start looking for jobs IMMEDIATELY. Add "available to start" a week or so after you plan on being there, and if you get any calls for an interview, inform them of your situation and schedule it for as soon as possible after arriving in town. Now here's what you'll need to have money for at this point: groceries, gas for the trip, food for the trip, a rental truck if you have large furniture to move, enough extra to live from for at least a month in case you don't find a job right away, and emergency funds in case of accident or injury.

Does anyone know where, besides eBay, I can buy the glasses that matches the corelle simple line dishes-cheap.

I am redoing my kitchen and just purchased the Corelle Simple Line Dinnerware. I am one of these people that want EVERYTHING to match. I thought it would be easy to find the glasses since in the past buying corelle coordinates was easy. But the only glasses I can find are like 20.00 for a set of four--not happening!!!

First apartment, what are the top necessities to have?

I'll be moving very soon and everything in my apartment will be brand new. I'll first start off with the bed and bath necessites. What else should I look for?

Here is a list of the bare neccesities you'll need when first moving in.
*Bedroom:
-Bed (of course) along with all the bedding that goes along with that. Fitters, sheets, pillow cases and blankets. And pillows of course!
-A night table, alarm clock and small lamp.
-Blinds/Curtains for privacy and to block out sunlight.
-Not sure about your closet space but think about storage.
*Kitchen:
-Get an inexpensive but nice (not cheap) dinnerware set, drinkware set, flatware set, some mugs for hot drinks and a serving set. Get it for atleast 8 people...trust me, you'll end up using it!
-Get basic baking/cooking tools. You'll need atleast one medium frying pan and one medium pot. Don't waste money on a million pots and pans.
-Get a whisk, measuring spoons, spatula, laddle, cutting board and atleast one good knife for cutting veggies and meat/poultry.
-The best thing to get for food prep and storage is the Pyrex 16 piece starter ste. It comes with measuring cup, mixing bowls, glass bakeware and containers, etc:

-Oven mits, apron, dish towels and a dish rack are must haves.
-You don't 100% need this item but I 100% recommend getting a George Forman grill. Its a God-send for easy healthy cooking (chicken, meat, fish, veggies, paninis, etc).
-A Brita or Pur filter is good to have. Trust me, you'll get sick of running out to buy bottled water! Plus its better for the enviroment.
-Also, get as many of the basic spices you commonly use.

General Items You'll Need:
-Iron and ironing board
-Hangers
-Vaccum
-TV and TV stand
-Towels and a bath mat
-Rags for dusting
-Cleaning supplies & laundry detergent
-Shopping cart for laundry and groceries

Being a former college partier myself, i would suggest sending her with dollar store ceramic plates. They were cheap, and I used my plates for a variety of reasons, not just to eat on. I also tended to take better care of them since they were breakable. Just a thought.....=)
