Where to find tea party set for bday party?

CAN'T WAIT

I am looking for mainly a bunch of tea cups and saucers. I keep finding online sets for four people for around $30. I'm throwing a tea party for my daughter's 5th bday so I'll need around 11-13 tea cups and not looking to spend so much. Please help! :)
I will be looking at thrift stores. I already bought gloves and hats from target for $1 each. They had a bunch out for easter.

I just answered your other question and then saw this one, So I will just c+p my answer here. Hope your daughter enjoys her birthday! While you are checking out the thrift shops and yard sales... keep your eye out for fancy hats, gloves and such. The girls will love digging through a box of fun stuff to add too their 'elegance'!

Because I didn't want to spend gobs of money on special tea sets, and I didn't want to worry about my things getting broken, I bought a couple sets of china at some local thrift stores. I got one set that had a full service for 8 including dinner plates and serving bowls and platters for under $20. I also bought several other cup and saucer sets that only had 2 or 3 in the sets. Teapots abound also in these types of second hand stores, flee markets and yard sales.

I then didn't care if something was dropped, mixing and matching the china was fun and the girls felt extra, extra special using real china!

If you don't want to buy the china, you might consider hostessing a 'bring your favorite tea cup' party."

I have a bit of fraud on my credit reports, I keep disputing it. Calling them and setting up fraud alert,active duty alert etc I contacted federal trade commission and the local police multiple times. But it seems like nothing is stopping the fraud from keep reoccurring. Is there anything I can do? Any recommendations?

File a police report, freeze your credit with each of the three credit bureaus for $10 a year. Even so, there are lines of credit that be taken out that unfortunately do not require a credit check. Umm, I was listening to this radio program. You can set up your mail to go to a safe deposit box, a security mail box I think they're called at the post office. $99 to rent one each year, but you can have all of your mail be put in there, and then use your key to get it out. That would stop most identity theft cold, and after you do that, change all of your bank account numbers. Tell the bank you've been having trouble and ask them to give you a different account, different checkbooks, etc.

If you do a lot of shopping online, I would recommend buying the Visa Gold reloadable gift card. You just put cash on it, and use it to make online purchases without risking your bank account number.

I would also take a close look at the purchases and see if any close relatives or family members are sporting those distinctive items? Did someone buy a gold plated camera? Some jewelry? You'll need to be your own detective in this matter, and find out who the culprit is. If it happens repeatably like that it could be someone you trust.

You might call a family dinner or meeting and discuss the issue openly, including your feelings on the matter, that may put an end to it.

What shops should I approach for an auction I am having at a cancer fundraiser?

I am looking for items that people can bid on for my fundraiser. Anyone have any ideas on what stores I can approach? It is being held in resto/bar so I cannot ask other restaurants for dinner gift certificates.

You can ask local museums to donate passes for a visit, or better yet, a yearly membership

Local gyms, same thing, membership passes for 6 or 12 months

Local attractions (zoos, amusement parks, any places like that)

Local spas - bet lots of people would bid for a massage or even a mani/pedi

You can ask bigger retailers if they could donate any items (a plasma TV would be nice) or at least, a gift card or two

Airlines used to donate tickets to charity. If there's an airport local to you, it still could be worth asking them

Cars arent selling right now. Maybe you can ask a local car dealer or two if they would be willing to donate a new car out of inventory - it would be good for them to get the donation and the publicity

If you're not getting enough items or you want to bring in bigger ticket pieces, you can check online for "consignment auction" sites - they provide items for charities to auction. You have to pay for them, but only if they sell. So for example if they make a vacation package available to your organization for $500, you set the minimum bid at $700, and if it sells at that price, or better yet, higher, you keep the difference.

In my community:
Massive budget cuts for our public schools, and talk of closing some schools, doing away with several sports programs, and cutting staff. Even the private schools are feeling the pinch

Our job fairs, sponsored by State govt, private businesses, and local govt; have started doing online job fairs because so many people were showing up at the job fairs it was overwhelming.

Most of our nonprofit charities are unable to raise enough money to fulfill their missions.

I'm seeing many more people going door to door looking to do odd jobs.

In No. California, a lot of stores- some major, like Mervyns, Circuit City,
Linens & Things have closed, along with the small stores that just can not make it anymore. The shopping malls are almost bare of customers. I went into Sears not too long ago, and you could throw a bowling ball down any isle. Even Target is pretty quite. A lot of the small restaurant have closed, and some of the big ones are also in trouble. The unemployment if at 10%. Job fairs are packed to the max.
No one is buying new cars and we have a sea of cars sitting at.the piers in LA, as their is no where else to put them. A lot of road construction projects have been set aside. And NO one is building houses any more. If you want to sell your house forget it!!!! Even the foreclosures are not selling real fast. No one can get loans, even if you qualify.The food banks are giving out more and more every day. The homeless are living in a tent city. People will not be getting their state income tax refunds in who knows when. People have just cut out any non-necessary spending. Resturants are tying to entice people with lower prices and 2 for one or 2 at a special price. (like 2 dinners for $20). A few of the low income health clinics have had to close. The San Francisco Chronicle newspaper is saying they are going to have to shut down, and the Sacramento Bee Newspaper is laying of personnel like crazy. This is due to lack of want adds. So they do not have the add revenue they need. I'm sure I could think of a few more things, but I better quit, as this is getting depressing.

Need help on how to go food shopping?

Everytime I go to the supermarket i never seem to have enough in my house. The bill comes out high but when I get home its mainly more of juice and other non essential things. I guess I am asking what is the best way to food shop. That is one thing I have been struggling with for years. I have two girls eight and four years then its me and my husband. How can i make it last from Friday to next Friday?? Also how much should i set aside to spend each week? Thanks all.

The thing I used to do when my kids (4) were young and we were all home for dinner is to watch the shopping ads. For me the came out on Mondays. I would sit down, see whats on sale and plan out our meals. And make my shopping list from that. If something we used a lot was on sale, I stocked up. I also clipped coupons from the Sunday papers and you can find online coupons also now.
Take stock of what are essentials to you guys. What in your cupboard or fridge makes you go to the store if you're out? Make sure you have it.
Write down the meals you constantly make and have the supplies on hand. Again, stock up when items are on sale.

Find web sites like Kraftfoods.com which has great meal ideas and recipes and it will even give you a shopping list.
allrecipes.com is great too for on the go families.

Do all your heavy shopping on the same day each week or two but figure a smaller trip in between if say you run out of milk or bread.

And only use CASH at the store, that way you have to add as you go and you won't be able to pick up non essential items!!

Do you have an extra freezer? If so, great. You can stock up on meat, chicken and fish when on sale but don't forget you can freeze bread and even chips. If you don't have one, watch the classifieds and see if you can find a used one!!

And if you have a SuperWalMart you can do all your shopping in one trip for both household items and groceries. I never buy my household items, such as cleaning items in a conventional grocery store. Way too expensive.
