I made reservations today for a mini-suite.. I'm very excited!!! Does anyone have any comments upon the cruise?
Answer
I have not cruised on the Pearl but I did just cruise on its twin sister ship, the Gem, this past November. We cruised on the Gem this past November for a 12 day Mediterranean cruise. The ship is nice but not as pretty as I thought it would be. It has a lot of dark wood panels in the dining area and hallways. The cabins have a lighter color wood panel which makes them very nice. We had a balcony cabin and it was nice, about like others we have had on Royal Caribbean and Princess.
I didn't think the decor on ship overall was that good. But it is OK and will not detract from your cruise. The Spinnaker Lounge on Deck 13 at the front of the ship has some really unusual and funky chairs with wild shapes and colors, but they are comfortable. And when they are not having bingo or some other activity in there its a good place to go relay and take a nap.
The pool deck was nice, with a bunch of hots tubs and a water slide. There is a smaller area for kids to play in the water on that same area/deck. There is a rock climbing wall and a basketball court, also a golf driving cage on either side of the ship on that same deck. They have shuffle board, and the over sized checkers and chess sets in the play area. It has internet access, but only 4 or 5 terminals, in the atrium area. I thought the internet area was kinda small and not in a good place because its in a high traffic area. But we never use it on ship anyway because you can always get it cheaper, faster and more reliable in an internet cafe in the ports.
There is a huge 15 foot screen in the atrium where they have the video game, Wii, at about 3:00 PM every afternoon. Its nice but at the same time kinda inconvenient if you are doing tours off the ship or relaxing at the pool. The ship has a bowling alley; two sets of 2 alleys on either side of the Bliss Cocktail Lounge on deck 7. The Bliss lounge also has some funky colored furniture. There were also a few slot machines in the lounge; have never seen slots in that typo location on a ship before. I love to bowl and was looking forward to it and thought it was free, but at $5.00 a game per person for me its way too much for bowling.
The ship has a nice casino and show room. The ship also has some casino activities (blackjack table and video roulette) in places on ship other than the casino. The gym is pretty good with lots of equipment. The food and service were OK, but nothing special that I would rave about. We ate at a couple of the "specialty" restaurants but didn't really find them to be special; the food was ordinary. We had some service problems on the ship. On the first day we never saw out cabin steward until bed time, about 10:00PM. And then we had a problem with the ship's Purser and a ship photographer. But those were OUR problems and not really an indication that you will have one.
Finally, I have been on about 8 NCL cruises but do not like NCL's "freestyle" cruising. And I knew that before this last cruise and was prepared to deal with it and just enjoy my cruise. I prefer the traditional style cruise where I have "my" table, and wait staff and don't have to be bothered with making reservations or standing at the main dining room door awaiting a table at dinner. So we did enjoy the cruise and ship in spite of that difficulties and my preferences. So you will probably have a great cruise.

Black lash
We are in our late 30s
We like to have may bee one drink but not in bars or clubs, more like a restaurant/bar.
Some one once told me about a bat cave and a boat ride type of thing,
What cool things can we do in 2 days. thank you in advance.
Answer
Hula Hut can then be the place for your dinner and some drink. It is a restaurant with an outdoor bar on the lake. So you can have a drink at the bar as you wait to be seated. Afterward you should stop by Mozart coffee house next door for some coffee and yummy cakes. It is a really laid back place. During weekend nights I think they also have live music.
There is boat ride on the town lake for watching sun set and bats, although I don't know if right now is the right season for bat watching. It is good experience. Below I have a link to the company I once rode. But there may be other boat company offering similar service.
In Austin, you should also visit the Texas Capitol. It is the tallest capitol in the nation, even taller than the one in DC. The Texas State Museum is great. You can probably spend quite some time there. Since it is next to UT campus, you may take a tour of UT as well. The street at UT, Guadalupe, which is nicknamed "Drag", used to be a very unique street with all those funky stores. I think more main street stores took over that street now. But it is still worthwhile taking a look since it is so close to the Museum. Just across the Texas State Museum, there is another new museum called Blanton Museum. I think they have the best collection in Latin American arts in the country.
During the day, don't forget visiting SoCon. i.e South Congress. That's the Congress Ave south of Town Lake. It has lots of unique stores in that area which really is what Austin was like in the good old days.
If you have time, you should stop by at Mount Bonnell park. It is along the Town Lake, the tallest point at Austin. So it has a spectacular view of Town Lake and the city. Although it is probably not the easiest place to find.
