If you ant the chemical compunds you should do a google search. Stoneware as a rule is the heaviest type of dinnerware. Earthenware is similar and chips easily if banged, and some of it is not dishwasher safe. Everyday China is something you would get in a box as a set of 4 bowls, plates cups and saucers. Corningware is actually glass and supposedly unbreakable, but light weight. Fine china you usually buy by the piece. Like one place setting per 50 dollars. It is very expensive and very thin, but well made. If you are looking to get something nice for yourself I would reccomend a nice set of corningware dinnerware. It has matching bowls plates and completer sets as well. Good luck!

I am shopping for new dinnerware and I cannot make up my mind. I purchased a set online but will be returning it because it looks nothing like it does on the computer.
I love wedgewood but cannot afford it. I definitely want china but I don't want to spend a fortune. Let me know if any of you have a favorite pattern and what you love about it. I'll look it up. Thanks for your help!!!

Both of my very fave patterns have, I think, been discontinued.
Old English Rose by Royal Albert
Desert Rose by Franciscan.
A good everyday dinnerware is Fiestaware. It is very sturdy and comes in lots of colors so you can mix and match with your decor.
The company that makes Fiestaware, Homer Laughlin, also makes restaurant grade china and their stuff holds up like iron. They make serving, pieces, too.
